I loved this list and would like to add that dressing "too young" is also very frumpy (and looks foolish). Also, wearing athleisure wear outside of the gym. Always enjoy a laugh with you, many thanks for keeping things light.

A few years ago I bought a new “vintage style” knit. The colour was beautiful, it should have suited me, but I couldn’t work out why I looked frumpy in it. My daughter told me “if you are vintage, you can’t wear vintage”! Haha - she was so right!

I have read somewhere that one should never wear a trend worn in the past. Then it was trendy, now it is foolish.

I agree with the capri assessment. I live in Phoenix, so when I’m wanting something lighter than pants, there are plenty of midi length dress/skirt options that are casual but more chic than capris, in my opinion.

Dammmm, I'm wearing capri pants now and I wore them yesterday. Ok fine, I've worn them almost every day since mid May when it turned hot. Forced working at home turned me frumpy. Same here in Canada....ppl go out in their PJs!! Not sure how we got to this point. Growing up my parents always told us to look clean, dressed nicely and presentable...we were actually yelled at if we left the house looking sloppy!!

Leggings for exercise. I do have a pair that I use long tunics and High boots in the winter. Leggings should be considered like a pair of tights and when you have tights you cover up.

I've always only worn them if they cover my butt. I have several longer nice hoodies and long sweaters that I wear with leggings. Never thin see through Leggings though. I like the nice thicker ones. I feel like people also think the tighter they the better they look. They have to FIT. not too big or too small. It's a thin line to walk, lol.

Oh God, I HATE stuff like this. I very rarely even put my toddler in shirts with stuff printed on them. We have some mickey shirts and ummmm....and I think that's it. Wait, there are a couple sports team prints. I just don't like them.

Hello Frederique! I completely agree with your view on jewellery. I'm petite, so big so-called 'Statement' pieces and chunky beads would swamp me. I'm more attracted to tiny pieces that can be combined - they still look delicate and not over-done - in yellow gold with diamonds or pale coloured gemstones. They look stylish and quirky, but still delicate. I love your posts - such good sense and style! Thank you!

Yes to your list! I also appreciate the ability to wear SOME things if they really suit us. I tend to collect well made, classic handbags so I’m going to keep them. I do make sure they work with what I am wearing 😉. It’s good to be warned OR reminded about frumpiness...

Thanks, Frederique for excellent review. Agree! Recently evaluated and purged various items from wardrobe that simply do not work for me at this point in life. Capri and cropped pants were critically reviewed. Several were donated to Goodwill. Keeping several in classic cuts, basic colors, b/w, navy, and tan as I will be living part of the year in a desert climate. Fortunately, am able to carry-off this style due height and overall body proportion. I do not wear shorts of any sort, so cropped and capri styles make sense for me. Otherwise, wear long cut classic style pants/slacks. Will continue to evaluate this.

Hello Beautiful Lady, Miss Frederique! I loved this presentation!! I'm 53 so in the 1980s, my fashion "go-to" inspirations were Princess Diana (feminine, colorful, elegant) and the preppy look which never goes out of style. Like you, I like shoulder pads at times but more in the 1940s fashion, not the huge 1980s type. To be honest, I've never liked ripped jeans. My "edgy" look includes skinny jeans, a black T-shirt and a leather jacket. I loved your comments on jewelry! I'm now enjoying simple pendants and bracelets like never before. I've always loved rings so that will never change. As far as handbags go, I wish I could afford a Hermes "Kelly Bag." That's my favorite handbag next to Channel. Ahhhhh! I'm very short and wear capris that are snug and hit just below my knee. I always have to shorten them, but feel good with the right classy top. But I'm with you on those that hit at the widest part of the calf. Long or short, choose one. Leggings: yes, camel toe: NO WAY. So my leggings are always paired with a longer shirt or sweater, and love high black boots in winter. Most of the time in winter I wear ponte pants, snug enough to be chic yet the fabric is thick enough to hold it's shape and never show the dreaded CT!

Some women wear capris because they don't like the hot weather alternative of skirts or shorts. Depending on how your legs or knees age, you may actually look better in a good quality pair of capris (with the right top & shoes, of course).

I forgot to say: tie-dye and embellishments (beads, rhinestones). I just ordered what I thought was a cute t-shirt, but it had rhinestone trim on the pocket that I couldn’t see in the online image, no way! Fortunately it came off easily, it was loosely hand-stitched.

I only use leggings to keep my legs warm if I wear a skirt or a dress and go outside in cold weather. Worn in stead of trousers I would almost expect someone to think I had forgotten to put on a skirt or a dress.

I agree with your list too! I wouldn’t say that I follow your “rules” on clothing, but I like to compare my thought to yours. Love the French perspective!

So agree with your list of ten. Only have one black legging that is a looser fit. Capri pants way too popular among the wiser ladies here in the US! You may add camouflage to this list and denim jackets.

You hit the nail on the head with this video. I could not believe that I loved to wear ripped jeans. My ex-husband actually loved them and asked me if he could have them. Oh Frederique, I love that someone mentioned Capri Pants! It seems to be there is a "uniform" of Capri Pants, and a t.shirt under an open, button up, short sleeve blouse, for so many ladies over 50. I hate it! As you say, it instantly ages them. It's a look that screams " I'm older now and I've given up!" 😄 Thanks for sharing, Lovely. 💐

I do have a few expensive leather bags that I've had for years and don't intend to get rid of them guilty! Leggings frumpy! Aggresive u're not lol! I got rid of all of my capris finally this year. Iʻd worn them for about ten years. I might buy a pair for hiking if the right ones come my way. When I wore them I felt "old" and "fat" and although I am Wiser now, I am also 5 years into keto, thinner than ever, feeling better than ever, and watching channels like yours, Iʻm getting compliments on my chic look. I never got compliments in my life on how I dressed until now.

I appreciate your opinions for the most part; however, when vanity comes before good financial sense, I simply cannot comply due to a fixed income. I wear glasses. Period. There is nothing wrong with that. Also, I use only one bag (neutral charcoal gray) until it is too worn or damaged. Don't worry - I will never wear leggings unless I'm practicing ballet.

You made me laugh with this one, Frederique 😆 Thanks for taking a moderate stance in the leggings issue. They aren’t as bad as many people make them out to be, and can feel like your only hope for people who have certain body types. Shopping for pants is my own personal hell.
