Years ago I was listening to a psychology radio show that had a woman who was an actress on. She was dealing with severe regret because she had turned down a part that went to another girl and that girl's career took off. It was never said, but the implications were that the girl who's career took off was Gwyneth Paltrow. That would be really hard to deal with.

Ellen was NOT a failure. It was quite popular and had great ratings, until Ellen DeGeneres came out as a lesbian both in real life and in the sitcom. The Heights was definitely ahead of its time when you remember movies and shows like high school musical, and Glee came out years later. Also, side note: the 1st season of the animated series had the original cast from the movies reprise the voice overs for their characters on CBS produced by Hanna Barbara while in the 2nd season DIC took over and aired on Fox kids and had none of the original cast come back. So, Bill and Ted's movies and shows is a prime example of having the cast being the reason the films and shows succeed.

A couple of curious omissions: Here and Now … After Golden Girls and other sitcoms vacated NBC Saturday nights, this was Malcolm-Jamal Warner spinoff show from Cosby that aired on Saturday nights. He played Theo Huxtable in the show (although after Cosby, they had to change his character name but it was the same character). Home Free with Matthew Perry… It actually aired (I think I’m right on this) Tuesday nights after the aforementioned Laurie Hill, when it got canceled early they burned it off in summer 1993 on TGIF. One important thing to note… One reason there were a lot of new shows trying to struggle and find their way in for 1992 was because the summer of 1992 could be called the true real end of 80s television as many shows like Cosby, night court, etc. were canceled the following seas and leaving a huge void.

I LUVED LUVED LUVED The Golden Palace, and The Heights. They were two of my favorite shows! I LOOOOVED The Golden Palace, even tho Bea Aurther was no longer on the show, it was such a hoot! I watched every episode and it was funny! I was so disappointed when it was canceled. And then The Heights...... LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!!!! I watched 90210 and Melrose Place, but The Heights was amazing! Each episode featured a song from the show’s soundtrack, which I also loved and listened to constantly. I was drawn to it due to my love for Charlotte Ross, my favorite actress. But I really enjoyed the whole show, and was so bummed when it too, was canceled. I swear networks don’t give shows a chance, they just axe 🪓 them when they’re not IMMEDIATE hits. A lot of times a show needs to find its audience, they can’t do that when they get canceled so quickly. A lot of shows that are now thought of as hits, were spared only because the networks had nothing else in the can. Such a shame. These two particular shows aren’t even on DVD 📀, that would be awesome, at least we’d have the memories, by watching the whole series on DVD 📀

@@markelijio6012 I have seen everything she’s ever done! And although I love her in anything any role she does, she will forever ALWAYS ALWAYS be Eve Donovan to me. I was so disappointed when I read that she passed on returning to DAYS. I haven’t seen her in anything since Arrow,,,, that was quite some time ago. Do you happen to know if she’s retired from acting? Gawd I hope not. She is such a gem 💎!!!

I remember Delta, the golden palace, camp wilder and bill and Ted's excellent adventures! I remember the camp wilder episode where one of the boys asked, "does Jason play hockey." I vaguely remember the theme song but I do remember the lady saying on there ,"camp wilder is closed" I forgot Jerry o Connell was on there. I remember him most from my secret identity and sliders. Delta I remember a guy saying "rock n roll" and then people looked at him and he said, "country!" Bill and Ted's excellent adventures I remember most the manager of that store and traveling through time to king Arthur's time finding himself in possession of the sword. "It's the king" someone said. The golden palace...I remember most how it came on and that it was on CBS.

re: "Delta". . . Love how back then, whenever a show was about a middle aged, freshly divorced, down on their luck, now "chasing their dream" woman, they always made her the owner of a classic car of some sort. . . usually a convertible. I'm thinking this trope must have all started after the movie "Thelma and Louise" came out or something. . .

I think The Golden Palace was only supposed to be one season with 24 episodes. It was not meant to go on to a second season, because the ladies had other Broadway shows they were working on. Beatrice Arthur appeared in the two part episode for one more time, before moving on to other things. Estelle Getty, Rue McClanahan and Betty White moved on to other work. Betty White reprised her acting career in various movies and sitcoms, notably Hot In Cleveland. In this role, she reminded me a lot of Beatrice Arthur's roles in both Maude and The Golden Girls.

I am still an avid watcher of The Golden Girls. I watched Golden Palace but it just didn’t have the same chemistry. Bea was important in the group but I think the lack of chemistry was more than just her loss. I think it would’ve been smarter to just focus on the ladies. That was the secret to success of Golden Girls. The extra characters in Palace just didn’t add to the likability factor

I agree. I have watched every episode of the Golden girls probably 20 times each. It’s my comfort show. I watch it to fall asleep almost every night. I think the lack of success of golden palace was, as you mentioned, too many extra characters. The magic of the golden girls was that key core cast, augmented by great guest stars. There was just too much going on in Golden Palace.
