Wow, I learned quite a bit today. Thank goodness, I found you. My Cricut has been unpacked for almost two years. A 23 year old step granddaughter found it and opened it this past summer which meant I didn’t know what came with the machine. That cost money because I was ordering materials to begin using. I found out I came with tools sample vinyl and all kinds of stuff. My 13 year old step daughter and I are hoping to make a couple of Christmas gifts and opened which means I didn’t have a clue what came with the Cricut. I have it hid now. Me and 13 year old step daughter are hoping to make a couple of gifts for Christmas. I’m still chicken but I’m going to be brave. I purchased several online classes. I brought my shoulder, part of the delay in me opening the box. Enough said I have lots of videos and now I m watching yours. I’m going to be brave and go make something out of self stick vinyl since I learned the difference today. I have tee shirts so may start there. I’m wanting to make some Christmas signs also. Thanks do much for your help.

I took a chance on the blades you mentioned and I was pleasantly surprised how well the worked. I had bought a Pen-pen and loved it. I had it for years and I lost it :( so I bought a new one. Then it broke and I was in the middle of a project. I went and got a mech. pencil and needle. Works like a charm. I am still using it to date. I agree whole heartedly about the Cricut vinyl, I hate it! I struggle to find a transfer tape that I like. Being frugal, I have tried a few and I have a HUGE rol that I bought from The Rhinestone world and I don’t think I’ll ever use it all.

Thanks for the tips. I have gotten a lot of vinyl from Dollar tree to practice with, now I just need to get my space ready to use my cricut.

I find your videos very helpful. You talked about buying blanks from the Dollar Store. I’m wanting to make a couple of mugs but I heard it was best to use coasters, mugs and whatever that they say are for sublimation. I was thinking of HTV is there something better? Do you have a posting of your hacks that we could print off?

When I first got my Cricut I thought you needed a colored cutting mat for each color of vinyl! LOL I laugh anytime I think of that.

Hey Tara, really you can't go wrong with either in my opinion. What I usually recommend, if you are on the fence, is to download both software (free on their website) and see which one feels more natural to you. The software is the biggest difference between the two machines, so if you prefer one over the other, then you'll have your answer. Hope this helps! ---Becky

Hey Caleb! Welding doesn't necessarily save vinyl, but you should weld overlapping parts so you have a smooth design (especially cursive/script fonts). Hope this helps! ---Becky

Can you recommend a cheaper alternative to the heat press , or can I use a regular iron x

Hey Tricia! You can most definitely use a home iron to get started! The most important thing to remember is that you need lots of pressure! I would recommend something like a bar stool or end table. I honestly pressed on my tile floor for a long time so I could use my body weight. I'll work on a video for you and others to help explain better! Thanks for watching and great question! ---Becky

You can use either, you will just want to make sure they do not have the wax coating.

Do you have to subscribe to cricut design space in order to use?

You mention that when making a weeding box you attach it to the art. Each time I select both and click attach all the black areas turn white and appear as an outline. So I skip that step and cut the project it shows I need an additional mat or run through just for the box cut. Am I trying to attach incorrectly? How do I just cut my project with the box around it all in one cut?

Hey Michelle, it's okay if it looks like a stencil, you goal is just to be able to cut the design with the box around it for easier weeding. Anytime you attach, I believe it changes the color since Cricut Design Space separates into mats based on color. Hope this helps! ---Becky

There are many good, reputable online vendors. I personally purchase my HTV from Stahls.com, and my adhesive vinyl from H&H Sign Supply (Oracal brand). Hope this helps! ---Becky

It will depend what you are pressing, but you could definitely use an iron for smaller projects!
