Next time you have to add USA, forty years ago, when I emigrated to US, I thought I was in the dream land. What is happening in this country is just heartbreaking, I’m 66 already, I wish I knew then what I know about this country now. I feel all my hard work and my dreams shattered just before my eyes. My age folks usually looking forward for retirement and enjoy their retirement, sadly I’m panicking for uncertainty and aggressive government policies towards elderly people, everything is out of reach for retired people, the rent, food, safety. US government no longer has respect for their citizens I don’t know in the past some how they were pretending they are. Government intentionally creating racial division, instead of uniting people.

Already fluent in French, having owned an apment for 30 yrs, when I relocated here I am miserable. The adm details are intended to obfuscate a broken social system. As a physician, once hospitalised the care was sub minimal. The staff poorly trained, limited range of medications, it was pre-reap;utionary France with levels of power over patients that was against everything I knew as appropriate medical care in the US. Treatment is like an Old Ford plant, you are an inanimate object on an assembly line: don't let your fingers venture far or they will be cut off. Everything I experienced in 3 hospital visits were third world quality. With wealth in France there is a different way of life. Despite an Ile St Louis spacious home, etc., I regret having made the move.

When I was there for nine days in November 2023, I saw a group of about 20 people standing outside in the drizzle waiting for something to open, and it was a medical clinic. While I loved Monmartre/Clichy, the amount of scammers there dismayed me.

If your moving to a country that doesn't speak English you should learn their language first at least enough to get by day to day. That's very ignorant to assume just because you going to live in a big city in a different country thatt alot of people will speak English. English is the language of corporate and diplomats around the world not down in the streets and stores of everyday people in foreign countries.

Know a a fellow soldier who moved to Germany in the eighties. The reason was he lived in Santa Monica after the army. On average he would see a crime or the results of one about ever two weeks and he realized the situation was going to get worse. Looking back he said it was a very wise decision. He can work around his area without a care and there's very little next to no crime. He said most Germans have the sense not to get involved with drugs.

Now there's a perfect example of how fast things can change--Germany! Did you know that most people, including , were quite safe in Germany at one time and even had German citizenship unlike other European countries, until Hitler came along? And did you know that the nazi era in Germany only lasted about 12 years from beginning to end? And do you remember that the nazis destroyed Germany in that short period of time. Just because things look good on the surface does not mean things will stay that way. They can change in the blink of an eye anywhere.

We have very low crime, great schools and a great hospital with amazing care. We moved here from Phoenix in 1980. Most people speak English, but they are hard working and good. No place is perfect. The worst thing is the prices of housing , but being retired the State helps keep our rent fairly affordable. I love the mountains and scenery. We raised our 4 children here, and have never regretted our move. They all are successful adults who have families. Our children and grandchildren had the kind of start in life that we wanted for them. No place is perfect, but not all of the US is bad. We love our country and pray that it will make a change for the better! I guess I am an eternal optimist because I believe in miracles! We definitely need some!!

The title should be "10 countries people from the US regret moving to". The language barrier works in both directions, Asian people find English being hard and illogical, and even many Europeans get never fluent in English although it's obligatory to learn it in school almost everywhere. Thus, it's hilarious to criticise countries on the basis that few people speak English if you don't mention that your assessment was made from a US perspective. I know people regretting having moved to the US, because of the high crime rate, lack of social security and lack of obligatory pension schemes, bad public schools, no free universities and missing public traffic in most places. The US is shiny and modern from the distant, but in many ways closer to a third-world-country than to a western EU country.

I am pretty sure you will find more racism in countries like, China, Japan, etc. Trust me, I do speak from my own experience. Racial division is at the top of the list to me, so I will agree to disagree with you. However, soft on crime but so much injustice against minorities is part of that problem. Poor treatment of the elderly and yes morals & values which has gone to hell as a result of previous leadership and supposedly Christan values who support a man whose done it all. So there goes your morals & values and those who think this okay.

Thanks for this, I would have been interested to see how the Philippines rated in your list. Heard it is very good for so many things, see a GP in hours rather than days (like the UK) BUT it cost's. Quieter pace of life just out of towns and cities and apparently very hot in places now. Wages low compared to many other places but living cost's seem fair by comparison.

I've experienced it personally when my family moved from Germany to Canada after WWII. And look at what's happened in Canada in just the last few decades! A once wonderful country that has deteriorated into a nightmare. We moved from Canada to the USA and while we certainly prospered for a while in the USA in the last few decades we've seen everything deteriorate: Cities, criminal activity, drug use, mental health, homelessness, race relations, ever more intrusion of government into our personal lives, all the nightmares we thought we had left behind. So don't kid yourself that things are better anywhere else or will stay better.

There, it is institutionalized. You are not welcome, only your money is. They will actively and progressively work daily to destroy your business and family. Every single one of my expat friends, no matter from what country, were driven out. Every one of them. I spoke the language fluently and even had some work as a translator. I paid Thai taxes every year and helped their foreign currency reserves with the U.S. dollars I brought in. None of it matters. @@jamesmack3314 Career air force - started working on F-4's back in 1968 at Ubon, then went to Utapao and the beloved B-52's. After putting in 20, I retired in Texas in 1986, but it didn't take long to do the math and my $700/month master sergeant pension wasn't going too far, so I moved to Chiang Mai in 1988, but immigration drug their feet on giving me a visa, and it was because they wanted me to pay under the table for it. Went back to Texas, bounced around working at Wal-Mart and golf courses, then when I started Social Security in 2005, moved to Bangkok, taught English for several years for something to do, and finally headed up to Chiang Mai permanently in 2014, but I did make a final attempt to live in Texas back in 2018, but all my friends were either dead or had become political psychopaths, so after 3 months, I decided living in exile was better in the long run. I'm 80 now and if I had it all to do over again, I think Vietnam or the Philippines would have been better options but every time I looked at a Vietnamese kid I would think about all the bombs I helped load and the Philippines are known as "typhoon alley," and I can't swim - PEACE, and hope you find your heaven on earth.
