I'm pretty sure there is a big difference between being in debt and being broke...Most people have debts, doesn't mean most people are broke.

People need to understand that. Having debts doesn't mean you don't have money. United are managing their debts with a few little accounting techniques. It doesn't mean they can't afford players and will go out of business.

chunkycake101 Arsenal are great financially but the fans dont care how much money the club makes. They want to win big trophies which Arsenal have struggle to do in the past 14years fans have a right to complain

  • @alexxallert412

chunkycake101 I agree that we have it better than alot of other clubs. But when the owners come out and talk about moving to the Emirates to compete with Bayern Munich and then you witness Arsenal get demolished I think fans have a right to complain. Then the owner comes out and says he didnt buy Arsenal to win trophies doesnt that bother you as a supporter? nobody is saying Arsenal have to be invincible every season but put a product out on the field that will at least compete for the title every season. If you look at the past 10 years Arsenal have been miles away from winning the league yet theyre the most expensive ticket in England. Yes the FA cup is a great trophy im not knocking it but a club the size of Arsenal should be winning much more than just the FA cup

Chelsea is owned by a company called Fordstam (Stamford spelt backwards) Roman Abramovic when investing capital into Chelsea FC was putting it through this company, that he owes. All Chelsea 1.1 Billion debt means is that Roman Abramovic owes himself 1.1 billion. Roman won't leave Chelsea he is actually one of the only owners who cares about the club and is always at games and youth team games as well as visits training ground regularly. He has close links with presidency in Russia and Chelsea is one the biggest club in the world and play in the rich English league and is in a fashionable city. Any Arab sheikh would buy the club if Roman does leave.

Nope. Arsenal HEEPED debt upon themselves with the Emirates, unnecessarily. All the while, doing nothing and selling top players. Now Spurs can build a big stadium with a good amount of revenue coming in, AND not sell all their best players. Moving from Highbury that early was a mistake.

Well according to the latest financial statements of Barcelona, they made a profit after tax of 29 million and they had assets worth 546 m compared to liabilities of 449 million, that is not being broke, the only indication of financial struggle might be that their current liabilities exceed their current assets but that can be expected given that their biggest assets are the players.

It is not the amount of debt but the percentage of debt to equity that counts. If the club is worth 4 billions but has only 500 millions of debt, then the percentage is 12.5% which is not much. But if their debt is 100 million but the equity is only 150 million then the percentage is 67% which is a lot.

Footballing world would be shocked if the banks suddenly called in all these debts. If clubs are more than 100 million in debt they should be penalised in the transfer market. Buying that is, until they get their books in order. Seeing Man U, Barca and Real having to compete on budgets such as Burnley, Huddersfield and Celta Vigo for example would be an interesting few seasons

Here's the unfortunate truth that no one wants to admit: Most sports fans (not just football) are people who throw away money on a sports club knowing they'll never get even that money back, and they expect anyone with enough money to fully bankroll a major club to have the same mindset even though most people who acquire that much wealth do so by NOT spending money frivolously. Many fans believe it's okay to lose money on sports because they think just being able to watch other people win trophies playing said sport is payback enough and somehow makes their life better, which goes against the mindset of most successful businessmen that end up owning clubs. As long as fan demands to win at all cost keep driving up said costs, it's pretty much becoming impossible to win championships AND make money in any sport - especially major football.

A lot of football clubs are in depth, for example most clubs will offer say 50 million for a player and won't be able to pay the full amount upfront. PSG want Neymar and according to skysports news they will have to pay his 200 million buyout clause upfront and if he signs a 5 year contract an additional 40 million per year witch adds up to half a billion just to sign Neymar

  • @gerardmulligan4825

Neymars transfer is as follows 200 million buyout clause, signing on bonus, loyalty bonus, weekly wage, bonuses for games played, goals scored, wins, trophys won and finally the agent's fee. It all adds up to one very expensive transfer

Being in debt does not mean you are broke. If you have something worth far more than the debt is, you can easily clear that debt. For example the barcelona debt is like 298 million dollars, but the squad alone is worth around 700 million dollars. Let alone the couple of billions the club is worth.

Most of these have yearly businesses over their total dept which means in one year or two maximum they could just payout everything, would they ever want to do it, or would even the banks want them to pay instead of paying interests... I mean the entre economy is based on dept.

Manchester united are definitely not broke. we may have crazy debt but can can easily pay it off, the interest from the bank is less that what the glazers can earn should the money be used for investment instead. thus they choose not to repay the full debt but only the interest each year. That being said the full debt can be repaid within 1.5 years seeing as unites revenue was 689 million euros based on 2015-2016 season

Chelsea FC plc today announced our annual financial results for the year ended 30 June 2016 with the club’s highest turnover figure recorded and a profit of £4.7m before exceptional costs. The group turnover figure of £329.1m was up five per cent on last year’s figure of £314.3m, generating a £4.7m profit before exceptional costs. The club incurred exceptional costs of £75.3m, a significant part of that as a result of a compensation fee payable for early termination of the club’s contract with adidas, resulting in a net loss for the year of £70.6m after exceptional costs. Since the financial year end we have announced a new technical partnership with Nike, the largest commercial deal in the club’s history which will impact our results from 1st July 2017. With ticket prices at Stamford Bridge frozen at 2011/12 levels and the stadium selling out for our games, matchday revenues remained level. Commercial revenues grew strongly on the back of our new shirt partnership with Yokohama Tyres, at the time our largest commercial deal. Broadcasting revenues also increased as a result of a new TV deal benefitting clubs who participated in the Champions League last season. We are expecting 2016/17 revenues to reach another record high for the club despite our absence from the Champions League this season. The main driver for this will be a new Premier League TV contract which has now commenced. Chairman Bruce Buck said: ‘The fact Chelsea Football Club recorded our highest revenues in a season when on-pitch performance was disappointing is a credit to our hard-working, dedicated staff and the robust business they have helped build. ‘It has long been our aim for the business to be stable independent of the team’s results and we continue to reinforce that.’

Being in debt doesn't mean you're broke, it's just a way of building capital. United aren't broke, they still have an ENORMOUS profit margin, they just have debt payments to make out of that margin. Saying these clubs are broke is like saying every nation in the western world is broke, they're not. They still make untold billions every year, they just have to pay portions of that to their debtors
