Manchester Let’s start with the famous city of Manchester. This city is celebrated for finding a place among the top 10 cheapest UK cities during this cost of living crisis. Southampton Now, let’s go to a port city in Hampshire, England, and that is the city of Southampton. This cheap city is located approximately 130 kilometres southwest of London, 32 kilometres west of Portsmouth, and the same distance southeast of Salisbury. I think you have underestimated the average rent in Edinburgh. Also, as the climate is so much cooler and the winter longer in Edinburgh, how can the average utility bills be so much more in Manchester? There is also the need to compare the proportions of higher-paid jobs to lower paid-ones, and between north and south; and as others have said, the associated income tax and council tax = payment of which is not optional! I would remind you that Scotland has two further levels of tax for its' highest earners...

I moved from Oxford to Leeds a few years back as Oxford certainly wasn't affordable and if anything was a commuter town for London.

You missed off Liverpool which should be on the list. Manchester is not a cheap city and when comparing cost of living in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 to foreign countries only London is more expensive than Paris, Copenhagen and Geneva.
