    Admitting, out loud, to other people, is the first step to recovery. You know, deep down, when you’re an addict but you make excuses it. It takes a very brave person to admit addiction

    Admitting it to a bunch of strangers is easy. Admit it to yourself, friends and family is the hardest. Sometimes people think they don't have a problem. There is a fine line between being an addict or being drinker.

    To the people who don't understand what addiction is like it's like a trap you can't get out of, u have a ball and ur chained to the ground unable to break free, but once you take it step by step things do get better with time there will be slip ups called relapses, which is normal cause every strong warrior goes through tough battles, they might lose but they get stronger and learn to never let their demons takeover, addiction is an evil thing but we're stronger together

    Let's be clear. There is no "battled" addiction unless the person is dead. You battle addiction every day. You're either in active addiction or recovery, but either way it's a lifetime battle and it doesn't become a past tense verb until you're dead.

  • @carmenl163

    @carmenl163

    Жыл бұрын

    Isn't this the 12-step attitude toward addiction? Because to me, this is A way of looking at it, but not necessarily the truth. I feel like I will never ever go back to smoking cigarettes again. I've battled that addiction for 30 years, and now, after 10 years of not smoking, I am trusting myself enough to say I've won.

  • @thebigjimmyd

    @thebigjimmyd

    Жыл бұрын

    @@carmenl163 That's great. It's been almost 3 years since my last cigarette and I have absolutely zero interest in starting again. That's also bc a medication I'm on happens to make me really nauseous when I smoke so that's why I stopped. My mom was a lifetime smoker like you. She's off them now too but if you're like her if you decided to smoke one more you'd be back on that train like you never left. It's always waiting for you to slip up one time to take your life over again. That's why you battle addiction your whole life.

  • @carmenl163

    @carmenl163

    Жыл бұрын

    @@thebigjimmyd Well, I've been on and off that train for 30 years (from age 15 to 45), always smoking 1 year, stopping 2 years, smoking 2 years, stopping for 6 months and so on. And of course, the starting always happened with one cigarette (usually on a party after a few glasses of wine), that led to the next one and the next one and within weeks I would be smoking like I'd never quit. But, 10 years ago, I made a very conscious decision to not smoke again. And although there have been tempting situations, I never took that first cigarette again. Thus, I really feel confident enough to see myself as someone who has won that battle forever. Good for you and your mom that you're non-smokers. I hope we will all stay that way!

  • @thebigjimmyd

    @thebigjimmyd

    Жыл бұрын

    @@carmenl163 Don't take this the wrong way bc I'm genuinely proud of you for quitting cigs. It's really hard to do so you deserve tons of credit and I hope it's added years to your life. But you've actually proven my point that addiction is a lifelong disease. The fact that you know not to take that first cig and you don't want to take that first cig because you know where that leads is proof the addiction is alive and well inside you and always will be. You've got the upper hand on it and deserve all the praise, but that doesn't mean you're not still addicted. Anyway, be well & stay smoke free! 🙂

  • @carmenl163

    @carmenl163

    Жыл бұрын

    @@thebigjimmyd I am definitely not taking this the wrong way. In fact, I want to thank you for clearing up the difference between being an addict and not. And although you are right about my motivation for refusing 'that first cigarette' in tempting situations after I just quit, I wonder how I qualify now. I've been offered cigarettes (as recently as last week now that you mention it) but those situations don't qualify as tempting anymore. It's like I am not even aware they are offering me a Cigarette, only that they are asking me about something I don't want. Like sugar in my coffee. No, thanks.

    Why not? Everybody is different. From 17-21 I drank everyday to the point of most nights being black out drunk, like I'm talking minimum a 5th or a 24case of beer each night! I stopped at 21, but started again at 23-24 then stopped and at 24 again, I used cocaine almost daily as well. At 25 after years of playing with pain meds I became a full blown addict and ended up shooting heroin, I stopped at like 30 but would still use off and on, at 32 I was severely depressed and suicidal and ended up in a hospital, I'm now 35 and about to turn 36. I'm not "clean" per se, I shoot heroin for a 2/3 day period a few times a year(like 2 or 3) I'll drink 4/5 times a year but almost every time I dont even drink everything I have, i end up pouring the last 25% out cause i just dont want it, and definitely do not get black out drunk, and about 10 times a year I'll buy a little 20 of coke(a far cry from doing 8balls 5 or 6 times a week) and most of those times I won't even use it all. Hell I never really think of any of these things, if I didnt end up around someone who was using or drinking or someone That needed me to cop for em I doubt I would even use! I just dont think about it and really dont wanna do it, anyway I totally believe ed Sheeran could just take a drink when he wants to.

One thing I will say, is I'm a survivor of childhood sexual trauma. Those are brutal and can take someone a lifetime to recover from. The problem, is they sent me over to a very dark place, of anger at the world, and self-hate.

    *Gaga is a queen for that.* What a lot of us weed-smokers don’t talk about is the potential for addiction. Though the substance itself may (or may not) be addictive, a lot of people still do fall addicted to it. The hazy state itself may be something unhappy people yearn for, causing them to do it more and more. I don’t blame them, I can see why. I’m on my own road to recovery (both marijuana and alcohol), and it’s not easy. But this video was an eye opener. If they can quit, so can I.

    Here in Detroit, people will belittle you for a simple weed addiction. People are on the outside looking in as to the constant struggles people face on the day to day grind. Yet we ridicule peoples imperfections and not try to help them through positive surroundings and such. No one knows of the man addicted to alcohol because his wife cheated and left him for another man. No one knows of the adolescent girl addicted to crack just because a hateful boyfriend or girl friend laced them with it. It is best to point them to the right direction and enable them to face their demons rather than shame them through religion and other means.

    I think Chrissy Tiegen can add an addiction to social media to her addiction to alcohol. Its important to know that once your addicted to something your an addict for life. Addiction is'nt something you recover from & get rid of. When your an addict your either managing your addiction by staying totally sober or staying away from whatever your addicted to as much as you possibly can or your feeding & surrendering to it, but again you're never cured, done or over it. Once your addicted, it's that shitty gift that just keeps on giving. I often wonder if you could bottle all the things you would do for an addiction & instead use its power of complete control over your life, your energy, your resources, your emotions, your thoughts, etc. along with the lengths you'll go to feed it & instead apply all that motivation, dedication & drive to something remotely positive in your life can you even imagine how insanely awesome our world could be...???🌻 Just a thought anyway...

Wow, I'm actually shocked that she used to have an alcohol problem. Glad she slowed it down for her husband John. Also want to congratulate John Legend for taking a chance on her at that time cause I don't think I would be able to stay with a woman who can't control her drinking, unless I can be her motivation to quit or slow down. 2. Not that surprising considering the health issues she's had while touring. And yet again, I knew she was a cigarette smoker so I count cigarettes as addiction. 1. I knew about that but it can seem surprising to a person who didn't know about it. Actually, according to some sources on the substance, pot can be addictive- just not to everyone. But, it does alter the psychological and emotional state of the user. Whether that change is good or bad depends on the person. Unfortunately though, by the time one finds out whether it has a good or bad effect on them, it may be too late. And most addicts will never admit to it anyway- they'll just find some way to justify it.

  • @LippyWitch

    @@storybellz id love to hear those sources. lmfao. pot itself is not addictive. one can create a habit out of doing it and THAT be addictive. but the substance itself is NOT addictive. also its pretty easy to find out if you react good or bad in a safe way, you take the absolutely smallest amount for edible or take one small hit off a tiny pipe. at that point ive never seen anyone have freak outs. if you think you can smoke from a hookah your first time or eat a full brownie then your an idiot.

    Rock star Joan Jett smokes pot. I don't know how many a day, but I think at least once every day. Probably more. And yet, when she's interviewed, she always likes to say she's not a drinker or a smoker and doesn't do drugs. But, the thing is, SHE IS a smoker- just not of cigarettes. It irritates me so much, the way so many pot smokers act like pot doesn't count. They practically talk about it like medicine! But, the fact is, that it can harm the lungs, just like cigs, and it does have psychological impacts. Pot smokers, by and large, like to justify it though. They like to say it's just a nice habit, that they aren't addicts. But, if someone has to have a joint every day to be happy, then yeah, they are addicts! And it's just sad that we are starting to overlook that these days, because it isn't good and shouldn't be taken lightly. People seem unaware that the pot of today is several times more potent that the pot of the 1960s! It's not the same as when the hippies were doing it, so they need to face those facts that yes, today's pot can be dangerous. It was risky enough back then, but even more so now. Thus, legalizing it is probably the wrong move. In fact, pot is probably why Joan Jett's voice has changed so much over the years, so I hope she takes it easy on that stuff. The girl in SC who gouged out her eyes says that pot was the gateway drug that lead her to other drugs that caused her to do that terrible thing... So, it's not the benign vitamin that users try to make it out to be. I don't blame them for wanting to feel good, for wanting a high... but, that doesn't mean it's good- especially not for some people. And the worst part is, by the time a person figures out how pot personally effects them, it may be too late- they may already be addicted. People really need to wake up about the risks involved in pot- seriously.
