I had to write a paper comparing Hamlet and The Lion King for my WR121 class. I can honestly say that Matt is right about The Lion King NOT just being "Hamlet with lions and a happy ending".

I thought that it was common knowledge that Hamlet and The Lion King were similar? Didn't the creators even say that it was inspired by it? (Not entirely sure though so could be wrong).
Fifty Shades of Grey better be on this list....... Edit: IT WAS THE VERY FIRST ONE! I'M BLOODY PSYCHIC!!!

You're pretty good...
Since you introduced me to the awesomeness that is John Green I seriously hope that we'll be seeing "The Fault in Our Stars" Books vs Movies review in the future!
I don't know if anybody's ever suggested this before, but what about taking a look at Victor Hugo's "Hunchback of Notre Dame" and the Disney Adaptation of it? Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame" is one of my favorite movies from Disney so I'm curious to see how it would fare when compared to the book.

Recently getting back into KZread, and I'd forgotten how much I enjoy your videos!! Looking forward to more :)
Can you please do books vs movie reviews on the James Bond films and books?
I miss your videos. But I know that anyone can get fed up from doing even the best things, on ocasion, and that life can often take us someplace where we have to change priorities. I'm really thankful for all the amazing stuff you posted. Provoking, intriguing, and with some sugestions that expanded my library, movie collection and mind. Best of wishes, and a great hug from Brazil.
Hi Matt - great to see you again. As a teacher, I went back to teaching music, so I haven't been following book/movie reviews so much this year, but my kids last year were really interested by your Christmas Carol review. I know it's been up for a while now, but be encouraged - people (including young people) really enjoy your work. Here's a few suggestions for Books v Movies reviews. They might seem to follow something of a pattern, so I understand if you want to add them all to the "never do" list:1. The Bible v The 10 Commandments2. The Bible v The Prince of Egypt3. The Bible v Noah4. The Bible v Jesus5. The Bible v The Bible
Huh... didn't expect this video so soon after your other videos. You must really be hitting your groove again, (though Spring concert season must be over by now... and Band Camp yet to begin). Good for you. A question in general: What are your thoughts on TV movies? There's a really great TNT film adaptation of Animal Farm I think of when I think of TV movies--not that you have to review that (I only mention it to say that TV movies don't have to be of piss poor quality), but I am curious as to what's your thoughts on whether or not you'd include them. Just curious.
I was wondering if you'll ever consider doing another review like the Faery Tales VS Disney review? In a recent video about the Books VS Movies reviews you want to do, I saw a few YA book adaptations. I was wondering if you would ever do a YA Books VS YA movies review? Just because I like the insights you give in all of your reviews and I think the popularity of these books and their adaptations have some very specific genre elements that would warent a big (entertaining) review like that. :) Either way looking forward to anything you put out :) I love all of your reviews :)
I'd suggest Perks of Being a Wallflower! One of my all time favorite movie and book. :)
Hi Matt! So, just to be clear, there is a possibility that you might do Pinocchio? I tend to prefer Carlo Collodi's version over the movies for the sheer depth that Collodi goes into, but I'd be very interested to see what you would think!
I think a Scott Pilgrim books vs. movies would be cool.
Hi I know I have not commented much on your channel but I love the books vs. movies. You were as always, very articulate in your reasons as to why you will not do this couple of suggestions. I am just wondering not a suggestion but have you ever seen the show Fearie Tale Theater that was shown in the 80s. It has 26 fairy tales being acted out by famous actors and actresses. I am just wondering what your thoughts were on the show if you have seen it or any of the episodes since it is a more faithful adaptation to the stories than Disney for example. They even keep the end or close to the end of the original Little Mermaid I only ask because you brought up fairy tales in this video. Keep up the door reviews and I look forward to more of your videos and I hope you are doing well. :)
Do you still have plan for this series? (I'm new to your channel, and this looks like the most recent)
When BFG comes out, will you do a review of it?
What are your thoughts on One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest? That would be a awesome review! :)
This one might be a little out there, but would you consider doing Dante's Inferno vs Over The Garden Wall?
I'm disappointed you won't do James and the Giant Peach. I've wanted to hear a deep analysis on the differences for so long and thought you'd be the perfect person to do it. Also, that book just really seems to be your style, considering what you've done before.
Would you consider doing the Grapes of Wrath? And/or East of Eden? Both amazing book to movie adaptations. :)
I do agree about reading Gregory Maguire's writing. I can read his books more than once, but I can only read them once in a while, and it takes a while to finish them to begin with. And, in response to the one about if there's multiple adaptations...if they aren't all on the same level, how will that work? Would you just pick the best adaptation and use that for the review?
I'm wondering if you could tweak the formula of Books Vs Movies to do a Into the Woods review. Since they decided to turn it into a movie musical like they did with Les Miserables. Speaking of that, has there been a Les Miserables review? If there hasn't, would you consider doing one?
Here's one that popped into my head. If they were to make a new Star Wars Saga based around the Darth Bane books, would you consider doing that?
While I'm sad that you won't do James and the Giant Peach (I personally really like it, and can't decide which version tells the better story), what about The Witches? That's also written by Roald Dahl, and it too has a movie version starring Anjelica Huston. Just throwing that out there. Have you ever read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer? It has many movie versions you could choose from (and it's my favorite book of all time).
Could you review the Series of Unfortunate Events movie/books? It could only be the first three books granted, but I would like to see the comparison between the two. The movie is considered by many to be a disappointment, what do you think?
I'm guessing you can still review The Last Unicorn?

Hi, Matt. Quick little question if that's okay. My creative writing class is talking about the types of conflicts, and I wanted to show them your little cartoon on the subject. I thought it was in the Little Princess review, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Could you give me a hand please?~ Tessa
Can you please take a look at Nim's Island and Ferngully, they're movies I grew up with and was surprised to learn were books, I've never read the books though.
Would you ever consider doing The Great Gatsby, Book vs the 2013 movie adaptation
So, may I suggest Ella Enchanted for a BvM review?
Could you do a books vs movies review of the Notebook?
I haven't looked at all of your videos yet, but I really enjoy the channel. As a girl who loves both reading and watching movies, I love channels like this one. Not sure if you've done this one yet, but have you considered a review of Watership Down?

@taylorwollerton6970

+Gracie Baker I agree. It's such a long book, and the pacing for the movie was just too quick. The Plague Dogs is another good book by the same author, but unlike Watership Down, the Plague Dogs was a much better movie and I enjoyed both of those ones. You're right, hardly anyone reads Watership Down any more. I think it's because it's so old.
May I suggest a books vs movies of A Clockwork Orange? Both versions are great!
I think you should do a books vs movies on Shrek, yes believe it or not shrek's based on a book by the same name and I think it would be neat because no ones ever heard of the books and I would like to know if we missed out on a good book or if we're glad we've never heard of the book.
Have you ever thought about doing a book vs movie review of A Series of Unfortunate Events? The books are pretty good
I know this is an eight year old video but can you make a books vs movies comparing the How To Train Your Dragon movies to the books
I would like to see you do Books vs Movies for Jason and the Argonauts.
Could you do the color of magic of another one of terry prattchers adaptations?
I had honestly expected too se Game of Thrones somewhere in this list.

Have you ever considered a BvsM review of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest?
Why didn’t you do a books versus movies review of stand by me vs the body
I would love to see A Casual Vacancy books vs. movies review!
do you think you would ever do a comparison of Freak the Mighty?
When are you going to make another video
Hey man, I really like your vids! While watching some Prime recently I saw a few movies that I have always liked but never realized they were made from books. "What just happened" and "The Pentagon Wars". Both are neat movies that I don't think ever did much in the theater. I remember watching the Pentagon Wars when it came out on HBO, it was actually made by HBO. "What just happened" is also a great story about behind the scenes Hollywood biz stuff. It would be awesome to see you compare these movies to the books they are based off of. One other movie that I know is based on a true story but not sure if it was a book is "Wag the Dog". Great stuff! Thanks for the laughs and knowledge 😸
Can you do the phantom tollbooth?
Since he said he wasn't against tweaking the formula, do you think he would do a books vs TV show review of Game of Thones?
James and the Giant Peach is one of Dahl's weaker stories. Probably because it was an early one and it was a bit rough. It basically meanders a bit too much, wandering around, looking at stuff and then just ending up in New York without much point. I still love it because it's still classic Dahl - friendly mutants, a resourceful child hero, etc, but Henry Sellick's direction was a little off, as was parts of the book, so I understand, even though I'd quite like to see a comparison.
Ever considered Fight Club for one of these videos?
Could you please do a books vs movies review of Rapunzel and Tangled
Would you be interested in taking a look at The Shining?
Would you ever do The Circle by Dave Eggers?
Can you do the BFG?
what about Books vs Movies Cloud Atlas?
Can u do Watership down review please?
No mention of Dune (though I am waiting for Dosadi Experiment to be made into a film) and no mention if he might include Book => TV show adaptation which thankfully is on the rise. I prefer a televised series where one can take the time to flesh out the story over a 2-3 hour movie which has to cut things out.
@gezzarandom

The Dune movie sucked
Have you done 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep' vs 'Blade Runner'?
Could you do a books vs movies review for A Clockwork Orange? Now I realize that this is an extremely unpleasant story, but I think it would be the only one you could do to have a review of shame talking about how the book simply does not compare to the movie. Recommendations I have for actual books vs movies reviews are for The Shining, Hellraiser, Dracula, the silence of the lambs, and to change things up a bit, maybe you could look at the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, along with the tv adaptation Game of Thrones.
I know it is quite an ask but I'd love to see your views on a song of ice and fire/game of thrones. I think you'd really enjoy them
How do you like it when a book series becomes a TV series in comparison to movies? Like Game of Thrones and such.
"The remaining of the Twilight series, one was enough." SO DAMN TRUE! xD
Can you do a books vs movies review of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne, compared to the Disney film adaptation.
I think in terms of differing mediums, a Books vs. Movies review of 2001 would be really really interesting. Do you classify the book as a novelization, even though it was written concurrent to the film's production?

Cian Geoghegan Or any movie that has a Gecko Ending for that matter. tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GeckoEnding
As much as I wanted to see a Books vs Movies review of Sin City back in the day, in retrospect, I realize that perhaps it wouldn't be particularly interesting because not only did Frank Miller write the books and co-directed the movie, but said movie is perhaps one of the biggest examples of a movie based on a graphic novel that is the most faithful to the source material. At least with Watchmen (still one of my favorite Books vs. Movie Reviews), there was enough differences between the movie and the graphic novel that warranted discussion. But hey, we'll see.
Wish you guys will eventually make the hunger games Books vs Movies
Can you possibly in the future do a Books vs. Movies Green Mile or Shawshanke Redemption?
Also would you do Roald Dahl’s The Witches?
this is probably a stupid question but have you seen frozen?
Would you ever do a Treasure Island vs Treasure Planet review? Or Fantastic Mr Fox?

Michael Davis My thoughts exactly.
Hey Matt Guion, (I hope I spelled you're name right.) ever heard of a guy called The Dom? He's doing a series on KZread and Channel Awesome called Lost in Adaptation where he reviews both books and movies. He talks about what they kept the same, what got changed and what got left out altogether. Look him up.
Can you do Disney's frozen versus the ice Queen
What about a books vs movies review of Stardust?
Have you ever seen the show NBC's Graham
Fight Club (the book) vs. Fight Club Matt I wouldn't mind seeing you do a vs of this. The author of the book (Chuck Pulynuk) thinks that the movie of his book is better and I would like to see if you agree.
Um, here's a question. Takin comic books and putting them against movies of them. Is it possible? Ex: Marvel comics vs marvel movies Tell what you think, as is it possible.

Kind of tricky to do, as on movie can be based on elements from multiple comics. But he could just compare the main storylines. Like Sam Raimi's Spider-Man vs Amazing Fantasy #15, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 vs Amazing Spider-Man #50, etc.
I would love to see a "Books vs Movies" between Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Study in Scarlet" and the Sherlock episode "A Study in Pink".
I know you probably get this a lot, perhaps even too often giving the movies popularity, but what about Hans Christian Anderson's "Snow Queen" vs Disney's "Frozen"? Is that one you'd consider in the future?
Are we ever going to see a review of Hugo's Notre Dame de Paris vs Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame?
Could you do lord of the flies
you should do a bvm review of howl's moving castle and a review of same of ella enchanted
aight thats nice and all but i'm still waitin for my fight club review
Has Dune been done if not then I wouldn't mind seeing comparisons of Dune book vs movies
Was not surprised by number 10
It's a very underrated unknown book but now about the Love Of Seven Dolls by Paul Gallico verses the movie adaptation the 1950 film Lili starring Leslie Caron.
How about Howl's Moving Castle. Both in my opinion are both very good and have enough similarities and difference that they can both hold up on their own.
I mean, I haven't read or watched 50 Shades of Grey, but I'd certainly watch if you did a Books vs. Movies Review. ;) Also, HI MATT! I might be youtube stalking some Shinies right now... It just occurred to me that I haven't communicated with you all in a while!

+Christi543 HI CHRISTI! =D Nice to see you on KZread again! How's it going?
Crime and Punishment too would be one to consider. The 1970 russian adaption is really good.
The Lorax was supposed to be a more faithful adaptation, but, executives wanted to be hip with the young crowd, so, that meant getting rid of amazing songs like Biggering in favor of How Bad Can I Be.
There also could be a similarity between The Egyptian Myths of Set and his brother Osirus. In fact the story of Set, Osirus & Horus is almost exactly like TLK.
I love how you don't have an image of 'Horton Hears a Who' on your Doctor Seuss movie comparison
Would you ever consider doing a Books vs Movies review of "Little Women," "American Psycho," or "Ella Enchanted"? I would love to hear your thoughts on them. :-)
You can also do books vs movies on the Andy Serkis and Jon Favreuas Jungle Books. There is also the Zoltan Korda and the Jason Scott Lee movie Plus The 1998 movie. You know what would be great if you waited until after the two new ones have been released and did it like Peter Pan. That would really be a great episode . I would be so happy to see. And since Andy Serkis movie comes out october 6th 2017 .You would have enough time to read the book and see all the movies. I like your videos .
The whole Hamlet-Lion King connection was only sprung up after they were accused of plagiarizing Kimba the White Lion anyway.
Don't even bother attempting to ask Matt about trying to do a Books vs. Movies on Romeo and Juliet vs. The Lion King 2, either.
Please do the book thief
Can you guys do a Books Vs Movies review of "Series Of Unfortunate Events"? I've never acually read the books, but I really loved the movie, and I wanna know why some people like it, and some people don't
