10 Birds That Will Make You Go Daww | North America

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

What makes a bird “cute” is very subjective. It's not quite the same as kittens, a kittens' cuteness requires zero explanation. Generally speaking though oversized features, like big eyes or heads, and of course, just being small-sized can earn a bird the title of "cute". The ones in this video I think most will agree are cute.

They're my favorite since I was 8 yrs old after I found a young crow that had fallen from its nest. My grandpa loved birds, had several of those big Amazon Parrots on his dairy...he had about 10 of them, taught them to say naughty words in Spanish and then when he was older he had Parakeets he raised in Southern Calif. I got a cute mug, from her merch...is a pink w words "Cute as a Button" with picture of crow.

Apparently crows remember how some persons just killed them for no good reason whatsoever decades ago and remain afraid of us! Many know the expression "A murder of crows" but may not know what it means.... I guess the old expression "As straight as the crow flies" is a compliment to their flying abilities! When my son misbehaved I'd tell him to behave or the crow would come peck his eyes out, I don't think my threat worked though! 😉

We have Red-tailed Hawks that live in the eucalyptus trees. It's so much fun watching the babies learning to soar. They make so much noise just like a kid yelling "Hey Mom look at me"! Also, can forget my Scrub-Jays bobbing up and down and looking sideways at peanuts on the ground (Mom and Dad haven't returned, he would take peanuts from my hand) but we have 6 very noisy young ones. The big California Quail with its large coveys are always fun to watch. Cleaning up the spilled birdseed under the feeder or eating the fallen fruit off the trees. They always have a male posted up on a fence or tree branch and making a chachick, chachick allowing the others to eat but, sounds the alarm if a cat is nearby. Then a BIG woosh and fly into the trees.

So cute! The Cardinals I watch in my yard just seem so gentle & sweet. They wait for a turn at the feeder, the male feeds the female, they call to each other so sweetly, & I never see them bully the other birds. I also LOVE the Rose-breasted Grosbeaks in my yard! One of the females will occasionally come sit very close as I'm putting out more food for them. She chips at me & watches me very intently & patiently. So sweet!

Just watched a cardinal nest earlier this season from empty nest to fledging for several weeks and they were indeed adorable. What was strange was watching what looked to be an older sibling (maybe from earlier in the season? Looked to be an older fledgling) come to the nest to check out the younguns and then alternate between feeding the babies then making a huge display of begging mom and dad to feed her too! Never seen such a thing!

So many precious darlings! I have a pair of American Redstarts aka Butterfly Birds in my cedars. They are inquisitive and flit about. I actually saw a redstart fledgling and chickadee fledgling playing together in my pear tree. They were hopping from branch to branch, playing 'follow the leader'! Then they'd sit together for a minute and start again! No squawking or aggression, just hanging out together. The parents didn't intervene. My garden is a relatively safe space for birds. Lots of cover plus access to food and fresh water. Life is good. Minimal stress for them.....other than the neighbour's cat. I don't let my own cat roam my garden! When their cat sees me it takes off, it knows it's been busted.

Helen Stanford - I once had a pair of Cardinals and a Cowbird had left one of its eggs in the Cardinal's nest - it hatched and it was a female - grew to be quite bigger and taller than the cardinals, but they still fed it and thought it was their own. I added food for them since they had such a big baby plus their other ones. - Stephanie

The cutest two pictures of birds that I have are of goldfinches. North America has an under-appreciated ecosystem. When I was younger, it used to be a dream of mine to go Africa to see the animals that people would see on safari. I posted a video on my YT ch of the 20+ Vultures flying overhead for several days. I put my drone up and followed them. They weren't interested in my drone what so ever. A few years ago, there were 6 of them hanging out in one tree a few days...but NEVER had this many flying overhead in the 37 yrs we've lived on this hill. I'm an avid bird watcher, its a lot of work keeping the feeders clean...but is something I do every day, trying hard to keep the kootie diseases from spreading. I HATE the 6 Ring Neck Pigeons that arrive, wipe out the seeds AND poop on everything...they're obnoxious! I've learned sooo much from Lesley....wishing I could get them to feed from my hand this winter, when there's a ton of birds seeking nommies.... I go thru a lot of Black Oils....50 lbs month, plus other seeds in winter.

The bird that always steals my heart is the downy woodpecker. Cute overload, with them! My top 10: 1. Downy woodpecker - the way they are always looking up above them for the big bad hawk. 2. Juvenile red bellied woodpecker - they have an all grey head till they get older - and so precious to see. 3. Any blue jay - you know why! 4. Cardinals - feeding any open mouth is the cutest. 5. Carolina wren (a feathery head with legs, and a big voice!) 6. Owls - all of them! 7. Nuthatches all day long! Their call is so distinctive - they sound like they are far away, and bang! The cutie was right in front of you the whole time!! How do they do that? 8. Crows and Ravens - their mischievous behavior makes them amazingly cute. I love corvids! 9. Finches - any variety - little flock antics are like a backyard sitcom! 10. And lastly,, The little titmouse. Who doesn't love a bird that plucks fur right off the fox to line his nest!

Can certainly agree about the Carolina wren. That little bird is such a chonk that it looks like a feathery ball with eyes and a beak. Some of my favorites are common grackles and mockingbirds. The former just has this adorable little swagger going on that makes them look like their strutting, and the latter does this really cute wing flash occasionally. I just can't pick a favorite! I love the unique characters of each species. Love the way a robins scoots along, then suddenly stops, tilt his head to listen, then kersnap! he pulls up a worm. Every time I my husband and I saw a cardinal, we'd say in unison, "Bless his pointed little head!" I love to hear the cardinal's songs. I love to watch the juncos and song sparrows forage under bushes. Kicking away leaves behind them, they remind me of housewives furiously dusting under beds. And I still can't get over how teeny a hummingbird is. And how quickly he darts through the air, like Disney's Tinkerbelle. The other day I wore my favorite raspberry red tee shirt while gardening, and I heard a low buzz just behind me. I turned and saw him before he darted away. The hummingbird must have thought I was a humongous flower! God made each bird species beautiful. We are to treasure these gifts and ensure they will always be here.
