Pretty and pretty-sounding terms are not subjective, actually - beauty of sound and beauty in general is an objective fact, like, nature / trees / flowers / forests / fruits / plants etc and colors / colorful elements etc are all very beautiful, and butterflies / bees / ladybirds / fish / birds etc are also pretty, and certain sounds and certain voices have a pretty sound etc, and poetry can be very beautiful as well, and there are also many words that are also pretty etc! Even the word mar is a nature related term (meaning sea in Spanish) and it is pretty, and, nature related terms only reflect me, so the name Mar(ia) only reflects me, and, I also am the only being reflecting big terms like God / Goddess etc, while the creator of this wrong world is the exact opposite of God / lord / heer / other big terms etc - the s-woord is also one of the many words that only reflect me & Chip / me & my protectors! Anyways, most words in Dutch are pretty words (much like in English) and, in some cases, the Dutch word is even prettier than the English word - like, the word for breath (adem) is prettier in Dutch than in English, and, adem being the prettiest term for breath that exists, it has to become a part of the English vocabulary as well!

The words mar / tin / man cannot be in someone’s name, so names such as Martino and Mensio must be changed - mar means sea in Spanish, and only I reflect nature related terms like mar and tin (metal related term) etc, including the name Mar(ia) and, also, I am the only God / Goddess etc, while the creator of this wrong world is the exact opposite of God / lord / heer / other big terms etc!

Julie hebben dan weer het schattigste woord voor vlinder.

Mijn favoriete Nederlandse woorden zijn niettegenstaande, uitbuiken, en desalniettemin. Tegenwoordig lijken deze woorden niet meer te worden gebruikt. Steeds vaker gebruiken jonge mensen Engels/Amerikaanse woorden zoals "chillen", "flabbergasted" en een pizza met "chicken" die ze voor weinig "money" ergen kunnen kopen. Het doet me pijn te merken dat onze mooie Nederlanse taal op deze manier wordt verkwanseld.

Ik vind de van oorsprong Jiddische woorden leuk, die in het Nederlands veel worden gebruikt. Zoals mazzel (geluk), achenebbisj, (rommeltje), mesjogge ( gek, maf) en gallisch (boos).

Geweldig! Een van mijn favoriete Nederlandse woorde en het woord komt ook voor in mijn moedertaal van Afrikaans.

@@neva.2764 Ik vind het een heel tof woord, maar zelfs mensen uit m'n directe omgeving hadden er nog nooit van gehoord. In ben van het Gentse en werk in Brussel, waar ik het volgens mij ook nog nooit opgevangen heb. Een gat in mijn taalcultuur, of echt zeer specifiek gebruik in bepaalde regio's - wie zal het zeggen. Hoe dan ook ben ik blij dat ik mijn woordenschat kan aanvullen met enkele leuk klinkende exemplaren 😀

Knus is ook een leuk woord! Tierelantijntje is een nieuw woord voor mij. Nooit van gehoord! Weer iets geleerd! Bedankt!

The English words for opleuken are, to pretty up the room / to adorn the item or wall or room (to nice it up would also work) and, prefun can be used for voorpret, and, I couldn’t find a word for uitwaaien, but, I invented the verb and the noun myself, which can be used for uitwaaien in English - the noun quilm (quilms) and, the verb to quilm / quilming / quilmed, and, quilmed can also be used as an adjective, and, the Dutch word uitwaaien can be used in English as well, and, hiking is also kind of close, because when one goes hiking, one automatically breathes in a lot of fresh air and doesn’t think about other things anymore!

Thank you very much for your video, Kim. I recently started watching your channel. I found you as a member on another channel dedicated to languages ​​of the world. There are a lot of borrowings from Dutch in Russian, so it became interesting to learn the language where these words came from in my native language. Some people think that Dutch doesn't sound very nice, but I don't think so. To me, the language sounds like laughter. In Russian, I make similar sounds when I laugh heartily. So my favorite word in Dutch is gezellig. I think it expresses the spirit of the language as much as possible. This is friendliness, fun, comfort and enthusiasm at the same time. I also like the word niksen. When there are no deadlines and you can do something purely for your own pleasure and at the same time relax, because the work with obligations and conditions is over. Goedkoop is also a cool word. It sounds very much like a good buy, although it means that something has a low price. I immediately see a sale. Or a fair where you can haggle. I also like the word hoeveelheid. I can immediately imagine how the gears are spinning at this moment and the amount is being calculated. Even as a Russian person, I like the word pannenkoek. I know that this dish came to Russia from the Netherlands. This is one of my favorite dishes, although I used to think it was Russian cuisine, but it turned out to be Dutch cuisine. And I also really like some similarities in the construction of sentences. Sometimes the Dutch say that it's not "I'm interested", but "this interests me". Russians say exactly the same. It's quite interesting and a little unexpected to find out.

In the past trading,wars,religie,traveling emigration etc brings so many words and uses to other countries.most languages are a mix.Even words wich I thought they are dutch,they arent.For example the word straat,its also known as strada in Italie wich means a road that is higher then the ground so the water walks away.In America they say highway.Stratosphere is a part of the sky very high. poffertjes,kleine pannekoeken comes from the french word pauvre in dutch pover poffen,op de pof.kopen en later betalen,oftewel poffertjes was eten voor de armen. @@jwijn Thank you for the recommendation, the videos are really very interesting and KZread captures and generates subtitles well. This helps to train the ear and immediately see how individual words are spelled. I didn't know the story about pifferjes, it was very interesting to search and read what kind of dish it was. Now I want to try it haha. I like the name and the look. I didn’t know about the history of straat either and was very surprised, because in Russian there is no separate word strada, but there is the word avtostrada [автострада] (means highway) and aestrada [эстрада] (means stage). It is believed that these words came from Italian. Although it seems to me that this is rather Latin, because once the Roman legionnaires built roads in Europe, which are still in operation and do not need repair. That's how solid this work turned out to be. Probably in the past, settlements in Europe were built along such roads, and these names first referred to the settlement, and then only houses along a particular road began to be called that way. And now it can be seen in the name of specific streets.

Desalniettemin is quite common, I remember teachers in school making the pun "desalwelteplus", as the word is constructed out of 5 parts that are words on their own: des (old fashioned case of an article), al (meaning presently/already), niet (meaning not), te (meaning too or at) and min (meaning minus). The pun is in exchanging the partial words "niet" and "min" for their opposites "wel" and "plus". The dutch word "wel" can have several meanings but in this case it's referred to it as a common dutch way to deny a denial. The 4 year old game where one says "it is so and so" where the other replies "no it isn't" on which the first goes "yes it is" only for the second to repeat "no it isn't" on which the first hold position by countering "yes it is" where the second goes on repeating "no it isn't" followed by the first "yes it is" etc. in dutch goes more like "het zit zo en zo", on with the second answers "nietes" on which the first replies "welles", to which the second goes again "nietes" to wich the first repeats "welles" etc. I'm not sure if there is a word in english for it, dictionaries don't provide a solution as the ones i used merely give translations for other meanings of the dutch word "wel". Another example with the dutch word "wel" used in the same sense is when one claims "you didn't do that" (Je hebt dat niet gedaan) as an accusation of neglect to which the other can deny the accustion of neglect with "No, I did do so" (Nee, ik heb het wel gedaan).

@@BlacksmithTWD The part 'al' in 'desalniettemin' does not come from 'al' (already), but from 'alles' (all). 'Des al' is old-Dutch for 'dit alles' (from this all / all of this). 'Niet te min' is literally translated in English as 'not to little'. 'Te min' refers to some kind of downplaying something. So, the word 'desalniettemin' could be written out in contemporary Dutch as something like: 'Zonder dit alles te bagatelliseren, ...' (Without downplaying this all, ...) or: 'Ondanks dit alles, ...' In English: 'Despite this all, ...'. For the latter we have a shorter word in Dutch: 'desondanks'. (despite this).

@@ronaldvanhemiksem3544 Indeed 'all' would have been the better translation, however by itself the dutch word 'al' can also mean 'already'. Being not that familiar with old dutch cases I recognized it as a case of an article like with the city names "Den Bosch" and "Den Haag". I was familiar with the meaning though "bagitaliseren" is in my opinion the better choice compared to "ondanks" as "ondanks" suggests it counters the goal/claim while it's not necessarily about a counteracting force that is of less relevance than the main force , I'm still puzzling on the meaning of the pun if one would take it literally. Something like 'Dit alles onder de loep nemend' is about the best I can come up with.

Ik ben dol op Surinaams-Nederlands (duh, ik ben twee keer naar dat land geëmigreerd) (niet te verwarren met Surinaams oftewel Sranan, dat een eigen taal is) omdat geen enkele versie vh Nlds zó expressief is. Dus hier komen er een paar: dieken (van to dig, kan ook peuteren betekenen), onder wiet (van weed - het onkruid staat minstens een halve meter hoog), gasoline, autobatterij (veel beter dan accu), lemmetje (voelt vertrouwder dan limoen), morserij, pinaren (lijden), tjekken (controleren of ook aandachtig bekijken), nonsens uitkraaien, boren (kortere weg nemen).

Behalve drie woorden heb ik zeven nieuwe woorden geleerd. Het woord dat ik leuk vond "opleuken".

In het spaans (well in peruvian spanish) noemen we het lieveheersbeestje een « mariquita » 😍 dat is ook zo schattig

Tussendoortje kan ook een weekendje uit zijn. Een korte vakantie (zoals een stedentrip) tussen twee grotere vakanties in.

Tierelantijntjes.... that's an old one! I had not heard that one in quite a while! I also love gezellig. And it's explanation, because many people have forgotten the actual meaning of Gezel. Although in "gezelschap" people still understand, but for gezellig, it's often forgotten. Gezel is old dutch for partner/companion. So a gezelschap, is a group of companion-people you are with. And for me, very logically, gezellig follows that. -ig being the Dutch *ing* in english in this case. I love language. Although I don't like to speak my own Dutch. English is much more eloquent in my personal opinion!

Hallo Kim: Mijn favoriete word van jouw lijst is "tussendoortje" want ik heb graag Worden die met "je" enden. Ook heb ik het graag want "tussen" een zo eenvoudig word te leren was. Het is vergelijkbaar met "zwischen" van duits, die mijn tweeede tal is. De twee twee- syllabische Woorden horen zo heel hoe elkaar en hoe dat wat ze beschrijven uit! Dat maakt mijn hart glimlachen.

So, you have to be careful using "tussendoortje" you could end up with a "quickie" when all that you wanted was a Twix? Two of my favourite dutch words are doei and lekker and I like the words with the addition of "je" to denote something small. Very cute! Do you have a favourite English word Kim?

Hey, Kim. Thanks for your great efforts to make dutch as easy as possible. I want to ask you two questions: The first one is when we know how to pronounce R as Spanish R, English R, or french R. The second one is, I hear in google Translate in words that end with "en" such as "Morgen" or any plural form. It pronounces these words like if there is no "n" at the end of the word So "morgen" would be pronounced as "morge" and so on. That's it, and thanks again for your efforts.

@@learndutchwithkim The missing N can also be seen as incomplete language. Some more posh people will judge you for that ;-) Most of us don't care and indeed easily say morge! when saying Goodmorning! it's a "mornin'" in comparison with English. The end letters sometimes fall off. But the more posh people will be precise with that. Listen to the speech of the King and you won't hear any missing letters. ;-)

@@SwirlingSoul Indeed, the missing 'n' at the end is the result of dutch dialects as in many of them it's common to not pronounce it, however in formal Dutch one is supposed to pronounce it like with the yearly king speech or decent newsreaders on subsidised TV broadcast. When I was in elementary school our teacher gave an example about how "Een gulden acht" was pronounced in formal Dutch and how it usually got pronounced in our local dialect "Ene gulle ach". (both meaning : "one guilder and eight guilder cents" which happened to be our currency at the time.) The funny thing about the dialect in Den Haag is that they just like in my local dialect on occasion leave out the "t" at the end ("ach" in stead of "acht" meaning "eight") but also place an extra "t" in the mids of other words, for instance someone from Den Haag may say "afschaften" in stead of "afschaffen". For some silly reason among famous dutch comedians an overpropoportional number of them are from Den Haag. I can easily name at least 4 who most people of my age will know of in the entire country while there are several cities with an equal number of inhabitants that never produced such well known comedians. Though perhaps that has more to do with the fact that our national govermenment is in Den Haag, rather than the local dialect.

Just the letter which is *written* with an *r* is ponounced in verry different ways in different countries. German, frensh dutch and english could bi similar. On the orher hand bavarien, spanish and dutch (in Belium) could be similar too. But anyway, all this pronunciations are different. In spanish there are two different letters: *r* and *rr*

Halloooo Kim, wat leuk om een keer weer een video van jouw te zien 😍 Ik hou van alle woorden die je hebt voorgesteld en nog velen meer - voorbeelden alleen van de rest van deze video: trouwens en beloven en knus :-) In mijn taal zeggen we: Vorfreude ist die schönste Freude, dus: Voorpret is het mooiste pret (of: de mooiste pret 🤔❔). Een woord voor opleuken zou misschien verschönern of auffrischen sein. [PS: Of "aufhübschen" - dat komt misschien nog closest ;-] (But "aufhübschen" is mostly used for people, especially women who dress up + put makeup on 🤔🤔) (En "opknappen" vind ik dan weer een heel leuk Nederlands woord :-) Het concept van uitwaaien is misschien in Duitsland net iets minder populair. Je zou wel kunnen zeggen "frische Luft schnappen" of misschien "durchlüften". Het laatste doe je meer met je woning en is het wat ongebruikelijk te zeggen jezelf "durchzulüften"... Ik weet niet of er nog een ander woord voor het concept bestaat om "frische Luft zu schnappen" - maar doe ik het zelf ook wel graag en zal ik nu altijd denken aan "uitwaaien"...

deze woorden zijn woorden die wij dagelijks gebruiken zijn voor ons dan ook niet mooier of lelijker dan andere woorden. Het vraagt iemand als u die er met een frisse blik naar kijkt om er de schoonheid van te zien, heb dank daar voor!!

Ja, 'het huis (laten) doorluchten' wordt in het Nederlands ook wel gebruikt. Een mens lucht dan weer niet door, hooguit als je last van winderigheid hebt misschien. 😜

Kun je videomaken over esset schrijven?

Ik vind Deze 10 woordjes ook heel prettig. Ik wist meeste van hun niet maar nu wel. Ik ga hem vast leren. Maar mijn favorietste Nederlandse woordje is : lekker.🥰😁 Alles is lekker in Nederland....lekker eten, lekker weer, lekker sfeer, lekker vrouw.. ezv.😁 En natuurlijk groetjes. Voor mij, prachtig is het mooiste woord, het uitspraak is heel fijn...ik wist niet dat het nederlands "phrasal verbs " gebruikt, maar opleuken een soort phrasal verb is, toch?

Dit zijn een mooie woorden in het bijzonder: sowieso en tierelantijntje. Mijn mond voelt echt verrukkelig als ik dit spreek😁Ik spreek vaak "eentje momentje" als ik over iets na te denken, want ik vind dat klinkt grappig. Ik denk dat Nederlanders vinden hetzelfde, omdat ze altijd lachen als ze dit horen😁

Ik vind bijvoorbeeld de volgende woorden mooi: horizon,woorden op -nis,zadel,dolfijn, olifant,boulevard, cadeau, leven, woorden op -o, muzea,zodra,subiet,fidussie,stukadoor en anderen op -oor, woorden op -ooi,agenda, poëzie,data,framboos,abrikoos, Mozes, en waarschijnlijk nog meer 😁

Hallo Kim, een woord waarvoor volgens mij in het Engels geen synoniem bestaat is gezin. Gezin is iets anders dan familie. Familie is "breder", veelomvattender. Dat laatste is ook een mooi woord.... 🙂

Knutselwinkel ist mein Favorit. Aber auch noch viele andere wie sieraden und ziekenhuis, weil sie mich an alte deutsche Worte erinnern.

In Russisch hebben we ook een woord voor « uitwaaien » maar het gaat niet over het weer. Het is een wandeling-pauze maken 🙂

Zoals in de commentaren ook te zien is hebben we veel leenwoorden. Sowieso is puur Duits anders zou het in het Nederlands Zowiezo moeten zijn. Ook Überhaupt is onvervalst Duits. Ook een ansicht kaart is qua spelling grotendeels Duits alhoewel iets aangepast. (Ansichtskarte). Vanuit de Nederlandse historie hebben we ook veel Franse woorden. De moderne spelling voor kado is b.v. al weer verlaten en teruggebracht naar het Franse cadeau. (De spellingscontrole bevestigt dit). Alleen het Franse meervoud cadeaux is veranderd in cadeaus.

Gezellig is ook in Old English bekend. Ook nog in Duits. Komt van gezel, degene waar je mee op reis bent. Dat moet een gezellig samen zijn. Dus geen typisch nederlands woord.😊

Mijn favoriete woord is bromfiets. Het klingt wat het betekend = onomatopoetisch. Ik kom op mijn brom,brom,brom fiiiiets.

Een lieveheersbeestje wordt ook wel kapoentje genoemd, zoals in het Sinterklaasliedje.

My orchestra colleague found a ladybird in one of his drum cases! 😂 It must’ve gotten in there after we did our summer job! God! They live a very long time without food! XD It was very hard for me to help him safely let the insect escape without killing it.

Voorpret in duits zijn "Vorfreude", opleuken zijn "Aufhübschen" en uitwaaien "Auslüften" and "Ausblasen" ..and here dafty me reaches the limits of his as yet poor nederlands. My favourite nederlandse word so far is fiets. I like how it imitates the squeaking of a rusty old bicycle. And bromfiets, of course! 🙌 😁 "Fiets-fiets-fiets!"

(Desalniettemin) wat een ingewikkeld woord die zou ik volgens mij nooit zal gebruiken, bovendien heb ik het ooit gehoord in mijn zeven jaar in Nederland. (opleuken) is echt in perfect woord om dagelijks te gebruiken. MAAR ik heb een vraag : wat is dan het verschil tussen opleuken en tierelantijntje? Is tierelantijntje een zelfstandig woord?

I think my favourite Dutch word is wel. It shows off just how unique Dutch can be! 😃 You know? In English you’d say; “I AM Michael!” But Dutch you’d say “Ik ben Michael wel” it’s quite a bit untranslatable too! Right?

@@learndutchwithkim Yep! ;) My dad’s called Michael and I’ve got loads of friends named Michael too! 😃 I.E Mr. Bowers! 😃 And in my science class at secondary school there were many Michaels and when I did that gardening course at Hetton Lyons Country park, Hetton Le Hole. I’m not at all religious Kim but it’s huge pity they almost NEVER tell you the story all about St. Michael the warrior archangel in church! :/ Or do they?! 😃 Oh my god he’s totally badass! 😃😃 He fought Satan’s pet goons with sword! 😃 See? He IS Magnaangemon from Digimon totally badass! 😃😃😃 But no….! Most churches only ever tell you the gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke and John! 😝 I admit! Het Frans woord voor "lieveheersbeestje" is "coccinelle" maar er is een volksnaam: "bête à bon Dieu" , hetzelfde als in Nederlands! En in Breton : "Buoc'hig-Doue" ( kleine koe van de goede God), amusant nietwaar? Mijn favoriet Nederlandse woord is misschien « Jubelende ». Het klinkt als het Frans woord « jubilatoire ». In een roman, Cloé (de hoofdpersonage) zegt: « j’adore ce mot ! il glisse, tourne et roule dans la bouche et évoque tout un tas de choses réjouissantes. (Ik dol op dit woord ! het glijdt, draait en rolt in de mond en do denken aan allerlei verheugende dingen). Je ben in een jubelstemming wanneer ik leer Nederlands met kim.

Fijn dat jij de Nederlandse taal serieus neemt! 'Sowieso' is naar mijn weten een germanisme, Duitse taal ook prachtig hoor... Mijn favoriete Nederlandse is woord is waarschijnlijk: 'ordentelijk'. Zou jij niet aan journalisten les willen geven of in de redactie van het 8 uur journaal willen gaan zitten om ze voor blunders te behoeden?(laatst hoorde ik er drie op één dag,jij waarschijnlijk meer...)

Sowieso komt sowieso uit het Duits, daarin heb je volkomen gelijk :) Ordentelijk is ook een mooi woord, en persoonlijk vind ik 'dikwijls' weer mooier dan 'vaak' of 'soms' :)

goesting , een vlaams woord die sterker is dan zin in iets hebben of trek in iets hebben , ik heb goesting in frieten

Heel leuk woord!

Meest van deze woorden kennde ik tot nu toe niet, hoewel ik zeker 7000 Nederlandse woorden heb gestampt.

Ek kyk graag hierna want tussen my taal Afrikaans en Nederlands is daar heelwat woorde wat die selfde betekenis het maar ook baie wat nie ooreenstem nie. In Afrikaans beteken vaak om moeg te wees in Nederlands beteken dit gereeld. Tierlantyntjies is 'n bekende woord hier en ek dink opgewondenheid is die naaste aan voorpret wat ons het. Ek hou van van tussendoortje maar sal dit versigtig gebruik lol. Opleuk kan seker gelyk gestel word aan opgedollie. Interessante video. Ek sien uit na meer ( :

'vaak' is ook 'dikwijls" in Hollands en 'dikwels' in Afrikaans.

Interessant. In Italiaans hebben wij veel van deze worden niet..."gezellig" is meer of minder "comodo", "tussendoortje" als "vluggertje" is "sveltina" van "svelto" = snel, sowieso is "comunque" (ik denk dat het Nederlands word van Duits komt), desalniettemin kan jij met "nondimeno" vertalen, maar we zeggen vaker "comunque" (hetzelfde als sowieso), "lieveheersbestje" is "coccinella" (ook voor ons brengt ze geluk), de andere worden hebben wij niet.
