Definitely DO NOT spray IPA or any other cleaning agent onto the rods, spray onto a cloth and then wipe. Spraying in the enclosure results in covering the belts (rubber and alcohol don't mix, will dry out and crack), covering the linear Y rods and removing all the grease from inside which you can't repack, spraying onto the rods is terrible advice unfortunately. Follow Bambu's maintenance guides to prevent damaging your machine. Also probably best not to use oil on the lead screws, oil can run down the screw and into the stepper motor below (very bad), again there is a reason why Bambu specify grease and not oil 😵💫

Yeah, there's a lot of bad advice in this video. Clearly not made by someone who knows how it's supposed to be done. Also... using compressed air to clean a machine? Really not done. This will only blow dirt into the small crevices, making the risk of jams bigger.

To be fair, the official rod cleaning video published by Bambu Lab's youtube channel had them spraying alcohol on the rods. Not that I'd ever think or want to pour isopropyl into a spray bottle.

Please do not pretend to know everything but know nothing, the oil will destroy the motor? That is the biggest joke I have ever heard. 😂😂😂😂
A few suggestions, do the cleaning of fans and extruder before other maintenance. This will avoid getting crap on your newely cleaned and lubricated z rods, camera, fiber rods, etc. just makes sense, rough messy stuff always first. Appreciate your video, just reorient the sequence of steps.
After a month of printing on my XC1 Carbon, I was looking into doing PM on it. This video is spot on for what I was looking for. I appreciate you being awesome.

I just got mine in yesterday and waiting to set up this weekend. Saving this bad boy for monthy maintenance. Thank you so much for providing this for use newer to 3d printing people! Also all these x1 videos makes this the easiest subcribe of my life
I watch this video every time I maintain my X1C thank you so much for the great videos. I would appreciate it if you added sections to your videos especially this one, so we can quickly navigate to the different steps! I love your simple and easy presentation style and your obvious vast knowledge of 3d printing.
Fabulous video for new owners. I'm 90 days in and am going to check every one of the 10 suggested items.
Good video..but quit using regular paper towel!! That is leaving fibres behind. Use Blue shop towels or a microfiber cloth instead. Otherwise you are just adding to the problem of leaving bits behind on your rods and lead screws

After spraying the bars with IPA, I'm left with a sticky mess. Should i have used a 4% session IPA or a 6.5% double hopped IPA ?

Good job on the video. I will not be using paper towels though, I will be using microfiber towels. Thank you for posting this video. I just got my first printer 3 days ago and I'm trying to learn all I can. I got the X1 Carbon and so far I absolutely love it.
I love that translucent extruder, mine is black and I had to take it apart 2 times to remove a piece of filament.
Thx for the guide. I have the X1 Carbon printer for a year at this point and have been casually using it. Truth be told I havent thought about actually maintaining it, but I am going to order the items you used and give my printer the care it deserves.
This is still the best maintenance video I’ve seen. If you have any additional maintenance tips, please let us know. And Thank You very much.

Ermm no its not, there alot of donts in this video.... IPA on carbon rods ? Spraying where it hit rubber belts that will dry out and crack ? Compressed air blowing crap all over your components ? Oil that could dribbling down into the motors ?
FYI for people that don’t want to keep buying desiccant (I have no idea how much it costs), I have hearing aids that use a desiccant at night. Manufacturer recommends merely “refreshing” the desiccant by zapping in microwave for a short time. They change back to their original color and are good to go.

I bookmarked this video and doing my maintenance on a monthly basis. Thanks a lot Jim, it is very useful.
Do they sell that transparent extruder? Because mine is black. Looks pretty handy to see if there's any filament debris in there, so you're not taking it off and apart for nothing when troubleshooting.
I really like the gta death effects when you miss bolts and things, its great. Thanks for all the info.
Dang I went looking for Lubricating tips for my new P1S.. Immediately knew this tutorial needs revision... No printer uses Oil on those rods, NEEDS Grease.. Very important.. Great tips Jim I just got my x1 carbon how many months do you wait to change the parts Wiper Cutter Carbon filter ? Also how do clean behind the rear lead screw if poop gets in there ? Ty
I found on the Bambu lab wiki they mentioned some brand of grease instead oil or Super Lube 92003 Silicone Lubricating Grease with PTFE as an alternative but no oil for the vertical screws.
Thanks for this vid! I don't even have an X1C yet but i'm saving up for one. I'm a stickler for good maintenance and after seeing how fast that thing prints and how complicated it is, I knew there would be some things to look out for
Is spraying a solvent on the rails and then running the linear bearings on them over that cleaner really a good idea? I feel like that's a great way to take whatever's on the rails and put it in the bearings.

It's best practice to hold fans still with one hand and use compressed air with the other. This will reduce wear on the bearings and prevent a dynamo effect from putting electricity back through the system.

Hello. I have 1 question about Bambu Studios - maybe you will be able to help me. I was trying to add a simple, plain circle to Bambu Studios to print a coin but in bugger size (10cm diameter). And when I upload the .svg file to Slicer I can see that the edge of the coin is not fully rounded - you can see the small walls that make up the circle. I tried uploading few different circle .svg files that are 100% circles and in Bambiu Slicer the walls & small edges appear. The question is: Is this normal that the Slicer shows these walls and not fully plain edge of the circle - but it will print it as a plain circle? Or should I do some editing within the slicer to make it disappear? Sorry to ask, my printer will come in a month from now and Im already trying to get some first models done and learn some about Bambu Slicer. Thank you in advance and Happy New Year! :)

Shop towels over paper towels to avoid residue. Also spray the towel not the Rods. Spraying hits the belts with ipa which isn't good for them.
I could be wrong but I think when you were cleaning the micro LIDAR you may actually have been cleaning the camera lens. Yes , I said that right :) Not the chamber camera. The X1C has a camera on the bottom of the print head, as well as the micro LiDAR on the side. Again someone please correct me if that’s wrong but I’m pretty sure it’s not. :)
Great video! We've had our kickstarter unit since last Sept and I was actually thinking just last week, "I bet I should be doing some kind of maintenance on this thing, I wonder what kind of stuff I should do?" Bambu says if you use IPA on the carbon rods you need to follow it up with grease. And what about checking belt tension? My prints have been horrible lately. People say my belts could be loose but I have no clue what to do.
Note on “loosening the back screws”. Be aware this ruins your XY axis precision. The idlers buckle when loose and you’ll find the cable pulley is no longer centered. This will cause banding.
If you do a lot of multi color prints make sure to check the PTFE tubes inside the AMS! I couldn’t figure out why mine kept jamming until I looked inside and realized the PTFE tube had completely worn through.
@faufaufau
9 ай бұрын
are you using abrasive material? because from what i've hear, the ams isn't supposed to be used with abrasive materials.
hahaha. I got a new X1C and I didn't know it had a carbon filter until you got to that part. Somehow, it's not in the startup documentation or on the wiki startup to note its even there. Thanks for sharing
Fans should not be allowed to be spinning when air cleaned. Electrical Back Voltage: In some fans, particularly in computers, spinning the blades can generate electricity (back EMF). This unintended voltage can potentially damage the fan’s motor or the electronic components it’s connected to.
Quick question tho, are all of these steps approved by them or will they void warranties? Seems breathing on these will do that.

I wouldn’t clean the lens with IPA. Ethilic alcohol 70% like that for medical use is perfect. Does not damage anyting and cleans perfectly.
Is it only my or P1S does not have self test after the initial setup? I can only calibrate and that takes 26 minutes. Thank you for the video!
You forgot the most important thing, in my opinion. Check the tubes, all the tubes. They do wear down and guess where all the debris and dust ends. X1 is known for clogging and I am pretty sure PTFE dust and debris is a bad thing. There are examples, that the filament has completely worn through the tube. Bambu recommend check after each 10 kg or 5 kg if you use abrasive filament. If you suddenly get under extrusion, check your tubes and replace if necessary. Bambu Wiki has a good guide howto. TIP: Using compressed air is always, the first thing you do during maintenance. Just cleaned and oiled, no reason to blow dust to the oily things.
I think I might buy one
Newbie mistake. Never use paper towels to clean the lead screws. Paper towels shed and this is horrible for the performance of the printer. Use a lint free microfiber.
When the 4 screws are loosed, should the carriage be able to move front to back and side to side easily? My only wants to move diagonally and requires significant effort to push it sideways for front to back.
I've had my X1C for just over a week and was looking for some maintance stuff to keep it 100%! I have 2 Ender 3 Pros that I've ran super hard and don't want to ruin this one haha
Do you have a video addressing AMS maintenance, like how to check if your PTFE tubes are about to explode or not?
Put a very thin layer of IPA? I am watching this video to learn how to do maintenance on my Bambu Carbon x1- How am I suppose to know what IPA is?
Can make a video how to do manual bed leveling using the knobs below the hotbed? Somehow mine came out of adjustment it seems after my third print. I have a ticket in to Bambu, but I can't print anything on my new printer! :(
What is that beautiful green filament you have there in your AMS I am in love 😍
thanks will do mainentance tomorrow , had a few squeakings the last few days...stupid question on the p1s if u move the head or bed it only lets u do one step.. is there a way to do 10 steps ?
great video but as for the lead screws I will be using white lithium grease and a microfiber towel. The white lithium grease I have is made by Lucas, which is a well known brand in the automotive lube world. I also use it on the bed screws of my CO2 laser and it is some awesome stuff. And it stays on for a long time.
Do I have to do anything when I’m done using the printer? Like can I just turn it off after doing my last print?
Just started my first big print on my x1c and it prints for about 10 seconds and stops for about 10 seconds before continuing over and over....can someone tell me what is wrong?

Can you use Super Lube without PTFE?
Could I leave the printer on, wipe the rods with IPA, and move the print head side to side with the menu on the printer?
@TheEdgeofTech
Жыл бұрын
I guess you could, but if you spray the IPA, and hit the electronics, you may have issues. Since you are working on the belt tension as well, the printer won't move good if you loosen the tensioners first. That's why they say to move them by hand.
Does Bambu list a spec for the belt tension screw torque? Just until they're tight and maybe a quarter turn past that is pretty vague.
Do not use oil on your lead screws, this can destroy the motor as well as the entire screw. You need to use grease as specified. Also never spray isopropyl alcohol inside your container, you will dry it out and crack the belts. What the hell is this video?
@dc345601
22 күн бұрын
The Bambu Labs video shows spraying liberally all over the rods too.
You left out one thing, especially if printing with ABS: Use some glass cleaner on the inside of the door and the underside of the glass top. The gasses from ABS will attract dust and grime and fog them up if not cleaned -- just like what you get on the inside of your car's windshield.
