6:42 can someone explain why John here decides to not stay with his body close to the table. Is it because he expects to slip anyway? Or is it a technique being less compact with arm to body that I’ve never heard of? Never seen a pro arm wrestler start a match like that.

Considering his hand position after slipping I think he was trying to unlock Vasili's wrist by turning his hand so it's on top. Vasili would struggle a ton just to defend that and he will bleed energy.

When applying back pressure you have to move backwards. To create back pressure he was going to essentially curl into the table crotch forward shoulders back. Like a banana.

@Shinrion Ah When he was healthy in 2008 and 2009 he was the best in the world. 2010 on he had massive shoulder issues.

​@@shinrionah5698 he won both his weight category and the open at Zloty in 2008 and 2009 ..won the left in his class in 2009..2010 was when the shoulder issues started to bother him a lot and he had surgery later ..he was out for most of 2011..i think
