Sami Zayn is just unfortunate. WWE really tried to put all the cards in his favor: Hometown debut, introduced by a Hall of Famer, matched up with a face of the company in a competitive showcase etc. They did everything they could to make a good first impression, but an unfortunate injury can muddle even the best laid plans.

Sadly for Buff Bagwell, WWE was going to be in Atlanta the very next week for Raw; the idea of an Invasion Angle could've been better if WWE had just waited one week

Fever caused disorientation, it would throw the timing off causing the botch. I had a high fever once from food poisoning and I slept on the couch, not because it was closer to the bathroom but because I was too disoriented to try climbing the stairs to my bedroom. A bad case of food poisoning is no joke.

Apperently he was told in Gorilla right before he went out to not play to the crowd or look at the camera/play to the home audience, which was like 83% of his shtick. Also, Vince and co. had spent years telling their fans that WCW was inferior shyte. Even if Buff and Booker had a 5 star classic, people would have hated it.

@@dbone3356 Yep and it didn't help that they held that ill fated match in a die hard WWF city. If they had waited till the following week to do the match in Atlanta (die hard WCW city) the crowd reaction would've been completely different. The roof would've been blown off the place.

Tbf, there are a lot of factors for his botching. Language barrier (and either difficulties or straight up refusal to learn English), working the wrong side, and dim mood lighting combined with his mask that affected visibility. But even despite all that, he was a very clumsy wrestler.

It should be WWE & WCW as the 2 brands instead of Smackdown & Raw. We could still get cross brand PPV's and have backstage politics of each brand trying to poach the rivals stars instead of the silly drafts.

I loved the "Buff" character!

I grew up in Jonesboro, Arkansas. I remember Del Rio, aka Spellbinder. Who eventually became Phantom. I will never understand why a huge jacked up guy like him who had experience was only given one chance when guys like Bastion Booger were around for years. They could have given him a new gimmick. Personally I think with a little work , the gimmick could have went over. Especially back in the gimmick era of the early 90s. For what it's worth Del Rio said that the Undertaker went to Vince telling him that the Phantasio character resembled his too much and pressured Vince on letting it go. That's pretty low if true. Spellbinder was my favorite when I would go to the local USWA Wrestling shows. Vince loved big jacked guys and I just don't understand why it didn't work. I don't see how it resembled the Undertaker at all. I think Undertaker was afraid of a young jacked up good looking Babyface coming in and stealing his spotlight.

Not a fan of Sin Cara but I never got why the trampoline is such a big deal. I don’t think WWE was even really trying to hide it. I mean jumping all the way from the ground to over the ropes is…a hell of a long way up.

Man, I forgot about Zayn's layoff, but I feel like it added to his support. A super over underdog gets injured in a match vs Big Match John and refuses to quit? LET'S GO!

Phantasio's worst fail in his debut was when he did the "endless streamers from the mouth" gag that all bad magicians do at kids' birthday parties. He took the spit-sodden streamers and handed them to some poor random kid at ringside! The poor kid looked at his dad as if to say "what the fuck do I do with this shit here?" But his dad just laughed at him.

I'm probably the only one but at around 13:11 when it cuts to the WCW announcers who were calling the Booker T vs Bagwell match. I had to rewind it back like 2x because for some reason I swore Scott Hudson was actually Baron Corbin and that you guys just photo shopped him in for some reason just to highlight just how absurd and bad the match was. I was also nodding in and out of sleep so that is probably why I'm the only person to get confused by that.

4:42 about the botched finish vs primo...well, its not like i like sin cara or something, in fact he sucks, but that botch was 100% primo's fault...he was the one to slip on the top rope, then sin cara decided to threw himself off the top rop to sell the botch of primo like it was a counter to him trying to do the spanish fly.
