The rust areas that are on the back of the gun use a q-tip and Johnson's or turtle wax paste wax and buff it in...a light coating protects it very well. Re apply yearly. Also not having an extended guide rod allows you to push the recoil spring cap area on a table or counter or door jamb to clear out wedged in mis-shaped, dented and defective rounds stuck partially in the chamber.

I just wont to let you know that there are recoil springs on the market now that are tested to 50,000 compression with no set and no loss of tension. They are sold by Brownell's and the manufacturer is "Springs Co.". I have been running them for almost 2 years now and I'm happy with them. Wilson Combat sells spring kits that are guaranteed for life, they have models for there mags. and for others as well. Wilson Combat also sells a spring kit that will fit in a standered 7rd mag. and makes it hold 8rds.

Joseph Altimari The flat wire is a good idea for Commander and Officer’s size to increase slide travel back toward Govt Model length. No real need on 5” Govt guns, but no harm either. Dawson is a good choice for hard to find sizes/styles, and they’re good people.
