Actually it is not a regular maggot ,it is a black soldier fly maggot and trust me it is not that smelly, it smells better than regular maggot.

I was a regular visitor to a maggot farm in the UK for near on 30 years and understand the process required to generate quality maggots for angling. Maggots were from blowflies also known as Bluebottles eggs from these flies were laid on meat that was taken into the fly house chicken or fish was the best to get a blow on This would then be placed in a raised edge concrete square and rotting meat or animal flesh added around it. Constant additions of this nature would eventually fill the square and as the maggots ate their fill they would move to the corners and were then cleaned up with fine sawdust and sold as bait. What you have on this shark do not look like maggots but some other pupae of another insect.

They use expired meat from supermarkets and other non-food grade animal products? I guess there is no need to use high-quality meat (fit for human consumption) as raising maggot takes days and food is decomposing as they grow, anyway. And also using things that otherwise will go to landfill is a part of strategy of reducing waste
