As a beekeeper, this was hilarious to watch. Their reactions to everything were hilarious! XD Especially when Rhett said "They start eating their own honey?!" I was like, well, what do you think the honey's there for? Decoration?

I came here after watching Coyote Peterson from Brave Wilderness trying a bee beard and I am SO glad that Link's experience was WAAAAAAAYY more pleasant than Coyote's. The poor guy was stung so many times and had such a swollen face :'( I've been stung less than ten times in my lifetime so far (mostly honey bees and one bumble bee) and I can safely say...I would NEVER get that close to a beehive on purpose. Just the sight of a beehive would bee ( :P ) enough!!

Actually, bees usually don't die, when they sting things. They die, when they sting humans, because their sting was never designed to deal with our skin. Not stinging isn't about self-preservation, it's about priorities. Bees are pretty simple creatures and there's no way, they would go out of their way to sting somebody just to make a point. They aren't predators like wasps and thus, they simply have no business interacting with other life forms as long as those life forms mind their own business. The reason they don't sting indiscriminately is simply because there's no need to. They are generally pretty much indifferent to anything, that doesn't directly involve them and there's usually only two reasons, a bee will sting: 1) If they feel like you are gonna kill them, they will sting out of pure self-defense. 2) If you aggravate the hive by getting too close and disturbing them, they will release a pheromone, that sends the whole hive into a frenzy. If the hive identifies you as a threat, they will try to eliminate you. Usually, before you handle bees, you expose them to smoke, which serves two functions: 1) The smoke conceals the pheromone, which would signal an attack, thus, they will never get aggressive 2) The bees will gobble up as much honey as possible to prepare for an emergency escape in case of a fire. Bees, that carry honey are generally passive towards threats.

That's what I usually do, with the paper. Of course, they always manage to crawl and fly around my computer until I do so... I will admit that a few have been killed with foam darts (a sniper, it is actually powerful)

I freak out if just one comes near me...i'm trying to do exposure therapy - staying relaxed if one comes around...usually while i'm working in my flower beds..i know in my head that the bee(s) are just doing their job. My husband says "just stay calm, he won't hurt you." But when i hear that dang buzzing sound..wow, i freak out, scream and usually run! Thank goodness we don't have Giant Japanese Hornets here!!!! They are vicious and aggressive! UGH!!
