1 Years ownership of my Volkswagen UP! - The perfect first car?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Wow this year has gone so fast, thank you to everyone that has been subscribed to my channel since then! Still buzzing to have hit 1,000 subscribers before the year was up and couldn't do it without you.
Thank you so much for watching and I really do hope that everyone is safe and well. Lock down has given me itchy feet and I cannot wait to be back out there filming more videos than ever when this all over.
If there is any other videos that you can think of that I could film from home I would love to hear them.... maybe I really did need a little toy for times like this.
Make sure you check me out on instagram @auto_social_uk

Nice descriptive video. Mine is a 2012 Bluemotion 75 PS 5 door, and I love how easy it is to park and fit in small places. It's a very spacious tiny car with good built quality. Also it is very economical with economy of around 55MPG (UK). Downsides are that the reverse gear doesn't engage easily sometimes and makes an annoying noise.

What I'm doing in lockdown is buying a white 5-door up! In my case a 2018 TSI. I thought your comments were spot on. The 75bhp is a little lackluster for me which is why I kept looking out for a 90ps TSI model over the past few months. And having driven a couple of GTIs I didn't want the harder ride or false sound in the cabin (loved the looks though). So I've ended up with a 5dr High-Up! TSi with a lot of extras including climate, auto lights & wipers, parking sensors & cruise control. Also heated seats and electric heated doot mirrors (standard on the high-up! but not on most trims). And it is plenty quick enough for me - tons of low down torque and virtually no turbo-lag (which was pretty bad on my 500x I had before). I am literally twice your age - so at a very different point in my life. I'm at the stage where my wife and I need nothing bigger than an Up! We can park it anywhere and it has a far smaller carbon footprint than an SUV. It has the critical 'big car' features and is powerful enough to have some fun on a b-road. So far from being a first car for me, this is my 31st car!! My only negatives so far are: 1. The ride quality - which I find considerably harder than my 500x (which ran on 18" wheels). This really surprises me since all the reviews I read suggested it was a quite supple ride. Mine does not have sports suspension - and is running on 15" wheels. I think it just my unreasonable expectations from a city car - but nonetheless a bit suprising to find the back-end skipping slightly across the road when I hit an inperfection. Tyre pressures are as recommended so not an issue there. Will keep tabs on that - but the car feels far better on the road than my 500x in general - only the potholes and road surfaces are communcated much more into the cabin. 2. No syncromesh for reverse gear. Funny how you get used to that and then when it's not there it's a mild annoyance. 3. No clutch rest, and I find the clutch pedal position a bit high. Neither is a show-stopper Other than that it's tremendous! The handling is much better than my Fiat, and the whole car feels nimble, nippy and solid. Looking forward to the first motorway trip at the weekend to see what MPG I get on a run. At the moment it seems I'm getting about 55mpg average around town which is considerably better than I thought it would be.

Good to see the up! make an appearance and sorry to hear about your expensive kerb contact Tish. Beyond the car, hope you were okay in the incident. I subscribed to your channel following the release of your first video, up! GTI, which I own. I’ve just bought a T-Roc R-Line, no not the convertible, but not miles apart from what may be your next car - perhaps a not so interesting fact. 😂 Anyhow, stay safe and well during these uncertain times and thank you for taking the time and effort to film and upload a video for us. All the best.

I grew up with VW and I drive a stock VW take up! (the naked frog, as he was called VW internally) and the lack of features also saves some weight, which benefits the 60 hp engine. It's my first car at age of 28 because I just got my driving license last month and I needed a cheap, small and reliable car for the 15 km a day to and from work. I actually find him very nippy, okay... nothing happens when you step on the pedal at 60 km/h in fifth gear, even in fourth gear on a slight incline. But because I stick strictly to the speed limit, I never get into the situation where I have to overtake anyway.

Didn't mention in this video but I had a Lupo as my first car! So I definitely hold a place for these cars in my heart. Glad you like the quality, ironically I left all my filming equipment at home and I am just using a selfy-stick! .... Just lucky the wind has finally dropped.... just as I can no longer film! Glad you like the intro! :) Thanks for your feed back!

The lower powered models, especially the 60Hp version, has the best fuel economy. My 208 Move Up, with the 60hp engine, has returned well over 70mpg, on long journy's but does around 65mph in normal everyday driving. They are underpowered, but the gearing is designed for outright fuel efficiency

Cant beat the build and reliability of a VW build, I had a Polo as my 1st little car and was a great little run about, I heard they done a GTI version of the UP as well, Im a big fan of hot hatches, was over at Mantis last year looking at changing my little fiesta red edition for a Fiesta ST but spent so much money on mine I cant justify selling it, cant beat all the backroads around Bures/Bergholt 👍 Good video, Nice reviews on your channel

r3evo zs they certainly do have a GTI version, I actually had one for about 3 months, the review is on my channel if you scroll right back. It was my first one. That is the thing sometimes, the more you spend the more you become attached! They are great roads, although I did run out of fuel in an A35 at the bottom of a hill once.... not so much fun!

My 60hp Move Up, does struggle on steeper gradients, but it returns incredible fuel economy, and has proved to be totally reliable from day one. Its the perfect car for a young inexperienced driver, as your never in any worry of overstepping the mark with the car. It is underpowered, but take that into consideration, and its a truly excellent car.

If you look at the power to weight ratio of the 60PS UP its similar to a 1.2 75PS Polo. If anything the UP feels quicker especially at low revs. People discount it purely on power and engine size but there is a bigger picture.

I got a 16 plate vw high up automatic, the gearbox is awful in town it just cant make its mind up and yes the engine is flat, I wanted the turbo version but you cant get it in an automatic!! It was 6 months old when I got it with 490 miles on it, its now done 52400 miles to date with only a slight wiring fault to the left indicator which I fixed myself, I fitted a towbar to it for a small trailer which it pulls fine on the motorway at 60 mph, I wish they had put a diesel engine in these as it would have suited me better for distance but looking at the 4 and abit years ive owned it its been faultless/reliable and cheap to run which is all I wanted. Take care out there👍

No mechanical issues. The thrust bearing is getting on in age and is abit noisy but that is just wear and tear. You will be amazed at the boot space when you drop the deck panel down. I got a 3 door and fitting adults in the back is a laugh but besides that. I have had no real issues sourcing service parts and no issues servicing it. It turns more heads than my 180sx ever did. I guess people think huh! what is smaller than a polo!?!? haha best of luck with your search.

Why are all people talking about "first car". You really do not need much more than an UP! I owned quite a lot of cars, including a tuned BMW E30, 2 106GTI's and a tuned Golf V GTI, but after owning a full options, lowered, 60HP UP tuned to 75HP for 8 years and 100.000 miles (did 25.000 a year some years) without any issue, doing maintenance myself, I think I can say, unless you live in the mountains, you don't need more. Already had and still have a 2.0 MX-5 and sometimes cannot decide which car to take to drive to work. It's only weather dependent. Not sunny? The UP! Next week very probably my next car: a red UP! GTI. Again full options.
