Udemy no wonder I recognize your voice do you voice cover some of their other stuff? I just stumbled upon you and this video congratulations to you and thanks for sharing a great message in such a real yet calm and intelligent manner. I've been quitting for 30 - 60 days the last few years but always slippery slope back to regular drinking (4 nights a week sometimes more). When I quit I feel so much better why do I go back? Addiction is sneaky and subtle indeed. I will be watching more of you and sub'd. Cheers!

Biggest thing I noticed is the mental clarity, focus on work, business tasks and general communication with people, before I struggled to engage with anything or anyone, now I'm leading the way and people are taking note. 1) Mental & physical focused. 2) Sleep, I'm sleeping again. 3) Anxiety & depression has gone. 4) Skin complexion, clearer. 5) Just an overall feeling of goodness and not self-loathing.

Alcohol-Free for just over two years now as part of a much broader commitment to increasing my longevity and health span! Down over 40 pounds since November 2021, Recent V02 max score of 47.8 (57 years old), 16.2% body fat and ALL of the benefits mentioned in this video. Can't say enough about how being AF has amplified every aspect of my commitment to being the very best version of me that I can be. I credit kicking alcohol as the number one contributor to all of this. Please, if you are thinking about your drinking, make the promise (out loud, as noted in the video) to quit and see where you are in just 30 days. With zero health benefits and indisputable science (Listen to Andrew Huberman's podcasts on alcohol), there is simply no upside to drinking attractively packaged poison.

Mike, that’s great news! Loosing the extra weight and kicking the habit requires the most important thing you can do for yourself, the will on your end to take that first step. People use alcohol as a crutch anyway. All it is, is just a bad habit. Like gambling. When you actually decide to take that first step, you make a sure bet on yourself. As time goes on, and you see the results, that sure bet pays off with compound interest! Thank you for sharing your story and it has sure helped me! ❤

Great video about quitting moderate drinking. Like Russell, I was always a moderate drinker and my patterns were similar to his. However, over the past 4 years or so, I moved slowly to drinking almost every evening - it became part of my routine. Not a lot - just maybe 2 pints of beer, but extremely consistently. Russell points out that there are all these subtle negative effects of alcohol for the moderate drinker. I was noticing these effects and was getting tired of crappy sleep and morning anxiety and feeling at only 90% in the morning. Also, instead of having this great connecting social time with friends at the bar, I found that I was not getting social connection and it was just boring. It was like I was drinking a little out of boredom. I’m about to hit 180 days with zero alcohol. My sleep is actually great, anxiety is way down, my brain works pretty well at 10 am, and I’m just more present in my life. A weird thing is I just generally have more emotional equanimity and it’s easier for me to navigate conflict and disagreements.

Another benefit for me was my evening was saved. I usually had beer in the late afternoon/early evening and then had no energy or motivation to do anything productive afterwards. My sleep quality also improved. As did the quality of my bathroom visits.

I used to drink alcohol nearly every evening for many years ( one or two glasses of wine in the winter, a beer or two in the summer). Since a year or two I only drink a few beers once a week and just drink tea at home. The biggest effect this has on me is that I sleep much better without the alcohol.

Also, there’s a level of self hatred involved when people drink. It’s poison, we’re consuming poison that’s been masked by sugar and other flavours. When you deconstruct alcohol you realise how bad it actually is.

Yeah, no. I don't mask my drinks with anything and I never feel bad about drinking the next day. I needed an escape from the real world (NOT from depression) and I made it happen with the resources available. This, to me, is by definition an act of self love. But you're right about it being poison. You're just mistaken about poison always being bad for you. Look up hormesis, for starters.

@@TheDionysianFields everyone loves to defend the drug they’re addicted to, especially when it helps them to escape reality. @@TheDionysianFields of course a lot of people scapegoat alcohol can even make money scapegoating alcohol. I’m simply saying that when you deconstruct alcohol and what it does to the body and brain it really shouldn’t be going into our mouths to have ‘fun’ or escape reality. There is no escape from reality, it’s always there nipping at your heels. This is why meditation is so beneficial.

@@TheDionysianFieldsI never felt bad about drinking either during my 20s and early 30s. Then I went through a dark time with multiple bereavements and from then on I realized that drinking put my life on hold for a while, negative throughts, procrastination, lack of motivation and so on. But by then quitting is even harder, although I’m happy to say I did manage it. I think it’s not about scapegoating, but pointing out how hard managing it can become once you’re not in the easiest phase in your life. And that’s exactly when it can get out of control.
