I personally hate the concept of "New Year's resolutions," not many people actually start the process to make their life better, and even fewer actually stick with it. Trust me, I used to get sucked up into that kind of hype. If you really wanted to make a difference, why not just make them resolutions and not New Year's resolutions?

It's like with dieting or any lasting change, it has to be a true shift in lifestyle in order to stick. I agree the goals should be more organic, I often wonder if the hype cycle of creating and dropping resolutions actually causes more harm than good. The changes I make come from a clear and present desire for change that comes from experiencing life, not a specific date. Either way, the tools here are helpful for behavior change!

The sheer “high value man” concept seems pretty sad, now add the “new years resolution” and it gets even worse.

I started my New Year’s resolution a month early. Everyday, I’ve woken up at 4:30 am, workout morning and afternoon, perform 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, do 5 minutes as many burpees as I can, read 100 pages a day, study for certifications in my field of study, restrict my budget (happy to say, I’ve saved $700). Stay strong and keep getting stronger

Been doing the opposite, I wake up at 4 because I work at 5..no time to workout I punch out at 5 or 6 pm get home shower..eat and I'm out by 8pm .. not everyone has the luxury of having a great schedule and not a very physically job..

Probably overdoing the training, maybe you gonna injury, maybe you already do something like this for the last year's, so in that case you'll probably have to change latter anyway.

Rather than a resolution, I focus on a theme for the year. Last year was mindfulness. 2023 will be strength. It's something I journal about and stays more forefront in my mind. It worked well for me last year so I'm excited to continue with a yearly theme going forward.

My Number 1 priority this year, needs to be MORE personal time with each member of my immediate family, as well as Group Family Time. I've been BUSY these last few years, kids growing up, wife and I getting older. I need to slow things down a little and focus on QUALITY time.

Good video again. Now that I think about it, I’ve been living month to month for years and have always run out of money before my next paycheck by about 1-2 weeks. Even if there are still bills to pay. Now that I’m no longer living in NYC, and I’ve eliminated all debt except student loans, this year’s main goal is to have some money in one if my 3 bank accounts at the end if the month. It sounds crazy I know but that’s been my life. The second thing is to make some, or at least one, new friend. 🎉

The one thing I'm focusing on is getting at least eight (8) hours of sleep a night. It feels like this one thing will help me accomplish everything else by allowing me to focus better throughout the day and having more energy to do other things like hitting the gym.

To make habits stick make sure to read "Good Habits Bad Habits" by Prof. Wendy Wood. Atomic Habits is more popular, but behavior science expert Pete Judo did a review of both books, and while AH has some good points the part about identity forming has been proven as unrealistic, while the first mentioned book above focuses more on the reduction of friction (aka making things more obvious and direct to your brain).

I like to do a reverse new years resolution. I don't start on Jan 1. I FINISH on Jan 1. I typically start on Sept 1 or Oct 1, depending on the goal. This year, it was to deadlift 600lb. I failed. I got 550 and then a few days later had an accident that injured my foot. Then some covid problems and lung damage which I'm still recovering from... Health problems... But it didn't stop me from having it in my mind constantly and training in a more focused way. I also told other people and managed to encourage more than 40 other people to do more push-ups and 25 people to join me with 100 push-ups every day for the month of November. 8 of them actually finished this goal. I failed on my 600lb deadlift goal, but look at all the other blessings it brought to me and others. Now that's a worthwhile achievement! Reverse New Years Resolutions are the way to go.

Good thing you leave your phone downstairs now. The blue light triggers your brain to maintain activity levels like you're awake. You never really hit the deep levels of sleep long enough or at all to get the rest your brain needs. Eventually, you can end up with chronic sleep deprivation effects and have negative health impacts as a result.
