For those who don’t understand the lyrics, it’s not really a sad song…it may seem like it is when reading other people’s comments because it ignites a lot of emotion, especially in people who’ve lost loved ones. Its actually a celebratory song, thanking our ancestors for being with us and for everything they do for us.🕊🕯📿

Just found out - idlozi refers to a healing spirit in zulu/ isixhosa and lami is the possessive 'my'. Sounds like she is also saying sivulele which means 'open to us'. It's a welcome song to welcome ancestors. No wonder its so sad. South african music just has this sad feeling to it sometimes which u just love it!

This song makes me recall the moment my great grandmother died, I felt it in my bones that she was leaving me I was only seven years old, I felt her spirit leaving but however it was hopeful stiill, even though her spirit left her body but I know she's still with me, a spirit told me it was gonna be okay, I remember it like it was yesterday. I'm 20 today and life has just been okay I'm greatful❤️

There’s so much pain and hate in the world because we are so far removed from our culture and traditions. We as South Africans more than any black nation have no spiritual anchors and expect to be grounded when shit hits the fan. You feel some type of way because music is the strings to your soul. You don’t find it odd that they allowed India to have over 5000 religions in peace and would demonise our few beliefs? Ain’t it because we are naturally spiritual people ? and our power lies in belief and there’s in decent.? Stay woke mzansi and be love❤️✊🏿
