1 OF 3 24K GOLD DELOREAN | RAREST CARS IN THE WORLD
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In 1981 and 1982, former Pontiac executive John DeLorean built a stylish, upscale sports car that retailed for $26,175. Although a major selling point was the car’s low-maintenance stainless steel finish, three were painted for experimental purposes and three were gold-plated for an American Express promotion.
The credit card company came up with the idea to offer a limited, 100-car run of 24-karat gold-plated DeLoreans exclusively for their gold card members. The gold-plated car was listed in their Christmas catalog for a staggering $85,000 - this included a required $10,000 deposit at the time of ordering.
In the end, only two were purchased (a third was later constructed from spare parts). This one was purchased by the president of a Texas bank and displayed in the bank’s lobby underneath a glass case until 2003 when it was donated to the Petersen Automotive Museum. It was delivered to the Museum with 7 miles on the odometer, and now has a little over 9. It has never been started.

Music and music in the background is very distracting. Not on brand. Genuine constructive criticism, not a hater. ... But it's bad.

It’s like going to a nightclub dancing whilst reading a book,it’s crazy
Hammer-time "YOU CAN'T TOUCH THIS !!"
Would’ve loved more details: what happened to the giveaway? why would these be built as “display only” but with an engine installed? who did AmEx work with to do the gold plating? Cmon Peterson: share the deep-dive details!
great Scott the delorean is very good THATS heavy
Don’t know why music wasn’t Can’t Touch This…. Haa! Great history
This car was in the bank where my family did their banking when I was a kid. I remember always running up to the glass and staring at every part of it until my family was done. There was, also, a gold tire pressure gauge and shovel (from breaking ground building the bank) on display next to it. Pictures show the car with the doors closed but they have had the doors open at some point. I still have a rubber coin holder that's green with gold writing saying Snyder National Bank. Really cool to see it again. I may have to pay it a visit in person.
Looking forward to seeing this when i visit the Petersen
How much plating did they use how long did it take to apply and how much did it cost back then?
Amazing car. I mean deLorean is crazy enough and then this. Magnificent 🥰
I love that the bumper colors dont quite match the body, just like the originals.
Love it
It would be interesting to know what this would sell for. Have any been sold publicly over the years?
Thanks for letting car wow use your vehicle! Can’t wait to check out more of your videos
Music was awful
Had no idea these were intended to be display only. Great video, thank you
0:56 "You'll see some ancient fingerprints. Who knows how long they'll been there."
Let’s make a golden Time Machine!
Had a 1982 automatic and it was not very comfortable to drive. What makes me wonder is why this one has like a HUGE gap between the front tires and fenders? Typically these need the front end lowered, not lifted. Very odd.
24 carat gold, yet it's reactive? Seems suspicious
Very cool looking. But too bad it’s not only so incredibly fragile as touching it goes, and that it wasn’t even intended to bf driven. Things like SO remind me of some of the craziness of the 80’s. Was it practical and did it make sense? No, not at all. But it was a whole lot of fun, and we need that more than ever today. When I think back on a lot of earlier decades, there are lots of things that just make me chuckle or think back fondly. Stuff like parachute pants, New Coke, big hair, or arcades in the 80’s. Or pagers, neon colored clothing, or Crystal Pepsi in the 90’s. They were so weird or trendy, and we probably look back, laugh, and say “Oh man, what were we thinking?” But things like that were fun. They made those decades unique and interesting. In the last 15-20 years I can hardly recall anything unique like that. Just political rifts, mass shootings, economic recession, and global pandemic. And it’s not that things are all bad, but they’re just so boring and vanilla compared to decades past. I really feel sorry for kids who have grown up in that time, and might be just 20-25.
Why, i want a car that i can’t touch or drive and that have very bad reputación.
It's been treated like a trophy, Roger Mize a banker in the town of in Snyder Texas for 20 years & the family handed it to you free, and you Peterson win didn't pay penny, but going charge $50
I don't wont to rain on everyone's parade here... but if you cover the painted areas of a car in say, gold leaf, according to ChatGPT, you're going to add, get this, add .05 grams of weight! I mean, we don't want to just willy nilly start tossing gold onto cars like that! Wait... ... .05 grams? ... Nevermind.

I believe the the reason for not plating the bumpers is because they're plastic. More difficult to make it adhere properly. The body is stainless steel.
Gold plate a turd , its still a turd.

But a bright, shiny turd is still better than a dull, dark brown turd.
