(1 OF 2,399) TAKING DELIVERY OF A RARE PANTHER PINK 1970 DODGE CHALLENGER TA!!! | DriveHub
Taking delivery of a very rare Panther Pink 1970 Dodge Challenger TA! Congrats to my friend John on his purchase of this special 1970 Challenger TA in Panther Pink!
"The Dodge Challenger made its debut in the fall of 1969 as a 1970 model. While it shared Chrysler’s “E-body” short-deck, long-hood platform with the third-generation Plymouth Barracuda, Dodge Challenger’s wheelbase was two inches longer, creating more interior space.
The Dodge Challenger was originally offered as either a two-door hardtop or convertible, in base, SE (Special Edition), R/T (Road/Track) and T/A (Trans Am) trim. But it was the range of powertrain choices that was truly remarkable.
Befitting the brand’s performance heritage, the Dodge Challenger went racing in its first year. For the street, it was offered in the limited-edition T/A model to meet homologation requirements for Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Trans Am racing. The T/A was one of the first production vehicles to offer different size tires, front and back; E60 x 15 in the front, G60 x 15 in the rear.
In 1970, Sam Posey drove the lone Trans Am racing Challenger, prepared and run by Ray Caldwell’s Autodynamics Race Shop. While he didn’t win a race in the No. 77 car, Posey finished fourth overall in points." -Chrysler

Actually they produced 2399 TOTAL Challenger T/A’s in 1970, not 2399 FM3 Pink ones. Very few of the cars were pink, there’s only about 67 known in the registry that are actual pink cars at the moment. Beautiful car though and good video.

God that Challengers engine sounds like music to my ears once you got it going correctly. Holy cow! Congratulations man!

10* morning + 50 year old car + Cold starts, and hold revs at 5000 rpm's = "Oil's in the pan, not in the engine". Next on DriveHub: We replace spun bearings in a half-century old engine.

I had a 1970 model Duster Twister 340 w/3spd standard in Panther Pick. It was very fast car. We changed the 3 spd for a 4 spd tranie. It had 150 mph on the speedo and I've had the needle on the stop way past 150 mph. She ran 13.60's in the quarter. Only mods. was headers and MSD unit and we rejeted the carburetor. I loved this car, should have never gotten rid of it. Thanks for taking me back to that place.

Congratulations- that is 1 beautiful automobile, I remember that car very well. Went to the SCCA Trans-Am race in Laconia when they were racing. I had a 6 cyl 1966 Mustang with a 3speed manual and a Thrush glass pack and thought I was dynamite.

Beautiful car. I would lowered a bit if it were mine. I had a '70 Challenger SE and I lowered it a bit and man it made the stance look real mean and wide.

And I’m the opposite. I like the higher stances. The way they had them on the streets in the 70s/80s. And if it doesn’t have stock rally rims or steel w/dog dish caps, id go with 70s/80s CRAGAR SS

Finally another young dude with a 50 year old car. I got a 1970 454 corvette, love the challenger though, its a whole different driving experience when the car is 50 years old.

VERY cool car. Around that time something very close to 290hp became a very common number for high performance cars. It's the same number as the Boss 302 Mustang...also underrated. I suspect it has something to do with the massive insurance costs which were just as big a factor in killing the original muscle cars as government regulation. Of course you can blame it on insurance, but bad brakes, tires, and handling led to expensive insurance.

No choke on the center carb? Not 100% sure but it may idle on center 2 barrel and then all 6 when floored?

No doubt an awesome car...I prefer the Plymouth version AAR Cuda but I won’t quibble...I’m not a fan of the “pink” but 🤷‍♂️. It’s very rare for a reason. I was a junior in high school when these cars were new It’s hard to believe my high school parking lot had several AAR CUDAS Super Bees Road Runners, GTO, Chevelles Mach 1 ...I still have my 69 Road Runner from a couple years later. The T/A has all the Mopar issues I think it has bad gas, or bad ground lead or a dead spot in the starter...all minor everyday stuff back in the day...I used to hate the starter sound...now I love it...great video, it would be great to see more of the same.

Sounds like bad ignition switch or starter solenoid and that center carburetor needs attention (bad needle and seat). Check the grounds also.

  • @TheOldPCTech

Just got it off the trailer, but I’m betting the starter is hung up. Give it a few good taps with a hammer and watch it start. I’ll wait to see if I was right 😉

Beautiful car. Watching all that raw fuel and ether dumped down in the cylinders was truly painful. Maybe take it inside first and have a thoughtful plan for waking up a car you just paid tens of thousands of dollars for. Just my humble opinion.
