1 John 5 [Daily Bible Study]

Branch Together brings Christians together to read the Bible every day. We know as Christians that we are called to "branch out" and reach the world around us, but first we must come "together" and develop habits that help us grow to be more like the people Jesus is calling us to be. So before we Branch Out, we Branch Together. Some people might call this Daily Devotions, or Quiet Time...whatever you call it, our videos kickstart your most important daily habit.

Pastor Darren what a fantastic Word today! Your exposition, and summary of the book of 1st John was truly Motivating , and thought provoking. The important core teachings on The love of God, the love for God, and the love of one's fellow man are at the very heart of Christian faith. So very important, and yet up lifting since we can all be in the love of God by accepting Jesus as the only begotten son of God, and his (Jesus) death to pay for the sins of mankind, and his resurrection conquering death and it's hold over mankind. So powerful, and so much to be thankful to God the Father, and Jesus the Savior and King of Kings for.

Verse 3, His commandments are not burdensome. We want to obey God because we love Him. An overflow of our love for God is obedience to His commandments and, therefore, not burdensome. We obey because of our love for Him.

Thank you for your channel! I can recommend the NT by Edgar J. Goodspeed, published in 1923 by The University of Chicago Press. or the Good News Bible 1976, Thomas Nelson INC. Publishers. Both can be purchased online. Though older translations from the Greek , and Hebrew, I have found in 44 years of study of the Word a rich and blessed experience in using these as a means to see a more clarified view of difficult passages. Just wanted to pass that on. I am older, and although I do enjoy all that is available in new commentaries especially online, some of the old scholors have a rich amount of resources. Blessings to you!

The BSB (Berean Study Bible) is on biblehub.com and is an excellent translation. On biblehub.com you can click on any verse and choose PAR which means parallel and the verse will show with like 20 different translations and you can compare. Also the strongs concordance is tied in and you can see the Greek or Hebrew word in the dictionary and also compare every other use of any word in the whole bible. God bless!

Ezekiel 18: 26When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. 27Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. 28Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

While studying this chapter, I often use text commentaries via the blue letter bible app to help. V. 16-17 state that if a brother sins but the sin does not lead to death we should pray for them. When it says and He will give him life, it’s likely to say that this type of prayer holds a special purpose (because we pray on behalf of another, we show love for another) and God will deliver on a promise to bless such prayer. (Perhaps) The sin that leads to death could mean the willingness to deny Jesus or blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. And this sin leads to death because that person is now in God’s hands, there’s nothing more which can be done through prayer. This would be death through corrective judgement from God, not condemnation. If you have the blue letter bible app this can be found under David Guziks commentary of chapter 5. Hope this helps.

Ezekiel 18:26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. 27Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. 28Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. We shouldn't claim to have the Holy Spirit and be born again and continue in our sins. Or not fully give our lives to Christ, holding back parts of our life to continue in sin. I'm reminded of Ananias from Acts 5, who didn't give his all to the church, but held back and lied. Lying on the Holy Spirit, leads to death. Like MichaelBrianInc said.

Thank you for the good work you bring to us. I have a question what are the sins that lead to death and those not leading to death, that the author has been telling us.

It’s a difficult verse to understand- it’s what led me here- I watched a few other videos about it. To sum it up if this helps anyone else also- basically we have to understand that we need to pray for everyone - even our enemies - it’s what Jesus told us to do- and other places in The Bible we are told to pray for others that may even be in sin but The Bible says that we can restore someone- Galatians 6:1 - 17 and Job 42 : 7 - 9 and Paul made the distinction of that- if you see someone caught in sin pray for them - and there is no sin that is not uncommon to all man- however in reference to this particular sin that “leads to death” as you are referring to - we have a few examples- one is Anananias and sapphira - who their sin lead to death- immediate death- and then we also have the example of Paul speaking about someone who was having inappropriate physical relationships with his mother in law within the church- 1 Corinthians 5:5 Paul says that he turns this person over to satan that his soul maybe saved on The day The Lord returns. - This is when someone keeps sinning and willfully and is unrepentant - these are all difficult to understand but in verses like these it is important to keep praying about them and keep asking Jesus to teach us to understand them and to pray that He would send us The Holy Spirit to help us to understand - they are very difficult to understand- John closes this book with “little children keep yourselves from idols “ so it is a clear warning to abstain and run from sin- to not entertain sin- and this also with this verse of the “sin that leads to death” it is difficult to understand but we should be just clinging to Jesus as much as we can- so there is no room for any opportunity for sin- love God and love your brother as yourself- and if we have The love of Christ in us these commandments are not burdensome to us. Simply do unto others as we would have them do unto us- what would we want other people to do to us? And then respond and act the same way- it isn’t difficult- this is what the bulk of the book John was talking about- the one verse about the sin leading to death is difficult - because we don’t want ourselves or anyone of our loved ones or anyone we know or have met or seen or know of to commit any sin that is unforgivable or any sin that leads to death- but it is important to focus on the great amount of grace that God has- and even in The Book of Job - God tells Jobs friends to offer sacrifice and that Job will pray for them- the amazing part is that we can pray for others that God will turn their hearts and minds toward Him- that is what the amazing thing is- and we need to focus on the larger context of The Bible as a whole and the larger context of The Book of John as a whole- remember - the devil cherry picked Bible verses to tempt Jesus- it’s important we look at The Bible as a whole and we remember that God is good and God is gracious- loving and merciful- and you can not put love God- if you were a container that could hold love and if your container could hold grace- and if your container could hold mercy - imagine a cup and love would be the water pouring into the cup- you can not have or hold or contain more love inside you then God can- you can not be more Concerned or more compassionate then God can- you can not- remember Jesus said - “I desire mercy and not sacrifice “ Matthew 9:13 - as merciful as you could be- you can never be more merciful then Jesus- you can never be more merciful-compassionate -loving - forgiving - or concerned about other people then God The Father is- and this includes other people- and it also includes you- as much as you love your own self even- and that can be a lot- people can even have unhealthy selfish love for themselves - but God even loves you more then you love yourself - Romans 5:8 “God proves His love for us while we were yet sinners Christ died for us” - so while we were selfishly loving ourselves and seeking selfish ambition and earthly desires and even sinners - God loved us even more then we loved ourselves- so I hope that is encouraging- God bless- Love God The Father - Jesus Christ and The Holy Spirit and your neighbor as yourself- Jesus Bless

By the way- I pray that Jesus comforts you by The Holy Spirit and that God The Father will reveal Himself to you and give you understanding of His love and give you peace of mind and that you would lead many souls to Christ- through prayer and through sharing The Love and The Life of Jesus Christ - I pray Gods peace and presence would surround you and you would see God working in every area of your life. - I pray that God would help you with all of the needs and desires you have that God would grant the desires of your heart- I pray you would have a deep passion to read The Bible and to pray and seek Jesus in all things- I pray that God would bless me to be a pastor one day - and that He would prepare me for that and that The Holy Spirit would give me wisdom and transform me by His grace- love and speak through me and use me as a vessel for His honor- in Jesus Name- Amen

No- this is not what we mean. As Pastors, we sin as well. God is faithful to forgive. There is a difference between slipping up and coming back for forgiveness compared to walking in darkness and not repenting. Do you have a church you are a part of? Definitely speak with one of the leaders there.or message us at BranchChurch.org
