    It is a good name, atleast some of the ship designs in the series seems to be vaguely reminiscent of bird shaped. It might just be my imagination as it's never clearly a bird but something about it just kind of makes me think a little bit of a bird.

    Basically, Nintendo approached Samus as a classic space adventurer like Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers. It’s likely the US instruction manual people just used the term “bounty hunter” because of the Star Wars hype at the time.

    Yes literally the best game ever made. Metroid and LoZ are my favorite games, more specific, Prime 1 and Wind Waker, both on GC. Prime came out in late 02, by early '12 I started doing SM hacks, I wanted a game like Prime in 2D, I started learning Game Maker after 2014 for artistic freedom, and if you look at the videos of my game engine, I think you'll be very very surprised, and satisfied. I love this game so much, that half of its lifetime, literally, I've been working on remaking it, 12 years old to 24 almost 25. I plan to finish by the time I turn 27 at the latest.

    I couldn't have been more than 10 years old when I first got into this franchise through Metroid Fusion. Its dark and isolated atmosphere along with the stunning soundtrack captivated me and had me wanting more, and when I learned of the existence of its elusive sequel Metroid Dread it stayed in the back of my mind for over a decade. Its official reveal in the June 2021 direct was enough to pull me out of a depressive slump and instill me with childlike joy I forgot I could ever feel again, and through all my cautious optimism and concerns for the game it managed to exceed my expectations. For me, Metroid Dread is more than just a game- It's a symbol of hope.

  • @illerhumpy3867

    @illerhumpy3867

    Жыл бұрын

    Yooooo! I've always wanted something new and fresh for the series so bad and could never think about what kind of a game that it would end up being but could never figure it out, but THAT would be abso genius! If they could pull that off with the Metroid formula that makes the series what it is and make it actually good and work well, (lol) then I bet they could come close to another masterpiece like Breath of the Wild. This also reminds me of what the 2017 Prey game was supposed to be in the beginning. If you look around a bit, you can still find the the eaaaaarrrlly trailer for it and it showed a character in first person looking at a holodeck watch in his wrist and is using it to scan faces in the crowd to find his bounty. Once he finds it, and if I remember correctly, there's a chase scene right after and the main character uses a couple pretty nifty looking gadgets to capture his target and that was it. Again for what I remember that is, but I do believe that it was definitely what prey was originally imagined to be in the beginning of it's reboots conception. I do believe there was a bit of text about it back in the day too in an old game informer as well which pretty much described it as what you would want from a new Metroid with it being an open world with bounties to take on whenever you want. It was supposed to be about the main character being stranded in space and found a living on some sort of multi alien space city of sort, taking on bounties to get by. I think they were mostly space pirates as well so yeah. Just think, you almost had what you wanted but we weren't in the right timeline to have it lol Edit: I was like 50/50 right and wrong. I was pretty much spot on with how the trailer played out, I just found it and rewatched it just now and yeah, Id say I pretty much described it correctly but there was a few things that I didn't remember obviously since it's been so long. But I was wrong about one main thing and that is that it was originally a reboot from the start, I was wrong and it was originally the sequel to the original Prey on the Xbox 360. Idk when they changed it completely and decided it would be a reboot instead though. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nJp8pbx6e5rWXdY.html That's the link for the video btw Incase you or anyone else is interested in watching it.

    Im tired of open world being shoe horned into everything it would literally make it not a metroid style game. The whole consept of a metroidvania is the oposite of open world. Making zelda open world removed all the cool unique items you used to get at the end of a dungeon.

  • @theendofit

    @theendofit

    Жыл бұрын

    @Denver Shoemaker do you understand what open world typically means? It means being able to go anywhere at any time. Being able to do quests in any order. Other then botw almost no zelda game was truly open world. Only way to make a game open world like this is by not making any area require somthing from another area as that would literally be locking/closing off an area of the world hens not open. Further it makes story telling much harder and is why the whole game had to be told in flash backs. If there is no order and everything can be skipped you cant have any important or impactfull story beat. Zelda and even more so with metroid is all about locking you off from one path till you get a cool new item to open new paths/doors. Botw lacked that in its atempt to be as open as possible.

    I've been making an open world Metroid Prime 2D expansion remake, I even fused over 3 engines together and then heavily re wrote them to work together, added all the Prime functions, but it's a Prime-based game 9 years in the making. When the project is done in a year or two, if people are willing to support a for profit and help launch a kickstarter campaign, I would LOVE to make these things happen, as the engine is built and had many of these capabilites.

    Every Metroid tends to morph how we think about games; to the point where half the indie-game space wants to be a love letter to the series and the genre it spawned. It deserves more love and sales than it's ever gotten, and I'm happy that sentiment is being fulfilled. Dread surpassed 3 million sales and Prime Remastered is catching up to its original's sales numbers. My hope is any new game can keep those numbers up and surpass our expectations, whether it's Prime 4 or other ventures.

    Yeah, they're definitely wrong. There was Speed Demos Archive which predates youtube, but there were no Super Metroid runs on there in 2000/2001. The origin of speedrunning is a bit difficult to pin down. The safe answer would be that DooM is essentially the original speedgame, though the truth is that people had been doing it with any game with an in-game timer and the first was probably Dragster on Atari or something.

    @@ShivaOO7 hey guys, I wrote this video. Well most of it anyway -- it's actually a compilation of several older videos, and one of them I didn't write. Anyways, about speedrunning -- that's what John Whitmore told me, and I didn't think to question it. Now that y'all are kinda zeroing in on that detail, I'm thinking about it. It's possible that instead of the internet, they got that footage from Nintendo's archives (like the Super Mario Club), who did do speed runs and recorded their footage for debugging purposes. Or it's possible John just misremembered. You know, it's been 20+ years.

    Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and say that Prime's devs did not watch speedruns prior to making the game. Where would they have watched them? Who do you figure was hosting hour long videos in 2001? The earliest Super Metroid 'records' that I can find are indeed from mid-2001, however like all speedruns that weren't quake, the evidence was an image of the screen with the in-game timer at best. Usually you could just claim it and demonstrate that you had sufficient knowledge to get the time. Speedrunning was barely a thing at that time and the 0.01% of people doing it who actually had video were required to record to a VHS tape, take the tape to be converted onto a DVD, and then share the DVD's contents using AIM get files at like 2.5 kb/s.

    I'm pretty new to metroid, still trying to make it through dread. I'll pick up prime remastered at some point, it looks amazing.

    crazy how Nintendo basically did the same thing with Metroid as they did with Starfox. Had things turned out differently, Prime could have been as bad as Starfox Adventure

    22:56 Part of me wonders why you would even give her the title of bounty hunter rather than just making her a normal Galactic Federation soldier.

    Probably at the time no real thought had gone into the galactic federation and it was just a name.

    Nintendo just needs to give Metroid the Tv show/movie treatment and call it a day.

    I've always wanted a Metroid game that lets you fly Samus' ship. It looks way too cool to not be, and I want to dogfight in it.

    Notice that the early version of samus suit in the trailer was anatomically correct, the shoulder are closer. Then the final version of samus suit has the shoulders in a dislocated far apart location. I Wonder what happened ?

    Why can't they give us a HD port of the Metroid Prime Trilogy or at least a HD Remaster of the first Metroid Prime for the Switch? Surely they sold enough for that atleast.

    Both didn’t even exist back then lol. Prime was developed from 1999 to 2002, Zero Mission came out in 2004, while the first few AM2R demos came out in 2008/2009 with AM2R releasing in 2016. It’s like criticizing Retro for not playing Metroid Dread while developing Prime 3. You only really had Metroid, Metroid 2 and Super Metroid before 2002, with both Fusion and Prime releasing in 2002 on the same day

    Nope. That's how we think of fps controls now, but back at the release of prime there wasn't any real establishment. It was truly what we think of today as a southpaw control scheme.

    @@lpnp9477 thanks for that but actually I did screw up lol. I wrote this video -- I was trying to describe modern FPS controls (as it was described to me by Prime's devs) and I somehow mixed up my left and right while writing the script >_

    I certainly think Metroid cound be much more lore expanded. It's a rich universe that could be even richer. A script writer is, in fact, a god in that script. You could even justify the "Bounty Hunter" tittle explaining Samus WAS a propper bounty hunter in her youth, but she decided to change her way of doing things, but maintained the tittle for reputation purposes, as an example. 😊
