The ones you buy in the market are only worth a $1 technically. You are paying extra for the brand really. Donuts are cheap and easy to make by hand relatively. Near my house, every donut shops sells donuts between 60¢ and $1.25.

It's pretty messed up when you consider that Gold is a finite resource. If we keep eating gold, the world'll eventually run out of it (in like a thousand years) n we'll have to invent a new job. If you have to artificially increase the asking price for your donut by adding gold, then it's not worth it to begin with. The price should reflect the quality of the donut, not the literal gold you placed on top.

it's actually likely the champagne! the gold has to be hammered so thin to make the edible foil that the price becomes negligible. good, classy champagne goes into the glaze, which can go for $200 a bottle, whereas sheets of gold leaf only go for $40 for multiple sheets!
