Only time a Grunfeld scares me is when I have the black pieces :) Nice game, every good tournament needs a win like this from a messy game. My round 9 game followed a similar trajectory of having a crushing opening and middle game, followed by having to defend a lost position while feeling like an idiot. Really wakes you up for the rest of the tournament and fills you with fighting spirit!

this was a great line actually, similar to the line i play against the grunny with 7. Bb5+ that stops them from playing c5 you should check it out

Yeah I'm familiar with that line as well, but studied it quite a few years ago!

What would you recommend against 8… Nc6?

The idea is to go 9.Bxc6 bxc6 10.0-0 0-0 11.Qc2 - when very often Black wins a pawn, but we reach an interesting opposite-coloured bishop position where White has at least enough compensation. It is considered a pretty "risk-free" way to play for White.

@@SamAsakaChess cool thanks! I guess that risk free position for white is something that typical Grunfeld player would like to avoid…
