1-99 F2P Ranged Guide - OSRS F2P Skill Guide

Ойындар

This video is a 1-99 OSRS F2P Ranged Guide. It is part of my OSRS F2P skill guides video series and is a quick and easy to follow guide to get you skilling and levelling Ranged effectively in OSRS F2P.
The guide is Ironman friendly, with specific Ironman hints, tips and advice. Those who can utilise the GE, will definitely have an easier and cheaper experience. This guide starts with a run through of any useful Quests, which in F2P, is limited to X Marks the Spot.
My OSRS F2P Ranging Guide continues with the Cows in Lumbridge from levels 1-20. It then moves on to the Barbarian Village, training on Barbarians from levels 20-30. From here we head back to Lumbridge, specifically the swamp, to train on Giant Frogs from levels 30-60. When you hit 50, if you have full green d'hide and need to farm some runes you can move to the stone circle south of Varrock and kill Dark Wizards. At level 60 we move into the Varrock Sewers and train on Moss Giants from 60-70. Lastly we take a trip to Corsair Cove and farm Ogresses from range level 70+.
1-99 F2P Ranged Guide - OSRS F2P Skill Guide concludes with some extra content ideas that could help break up the skill grind. Things like completing Dragon Slayer 1 and a couple more ideas.
This is one of my OSRS F2P Skill Guides, I’m currently working on an entire series to cover levelling/skilling all of the F2P skills. For any hardcore F2P skillers out there, I would love to get your feedback and any F2P skilling tips you have so that I can include the best possible content in my videos!
UPDATES/CORRECTIONS ✔️:
Thanks to ‪@rawrtehehe2134‬ Who pointed out that the GE price for Bronze and Iron arrows is the same. So for the +1 damage none ironmen should basically NEVER bother with bronze arrows! Awesome Spot!
Thanks to ‪@t-yoonit‬ the level 7 and level 20 Dark Wizards have the same drop rates for magic runes, so if you want to farm runes from drops the Dark Wizards in Draynor are a good shout as they are only level 7 and are right next to a bank!
REQUIRMENTS 🔒:
None. 40 Defence is recommended, but can be attained during the process. 28 crafting is required for Ironmen to craft armour up to hard leather.
ITEMS 🧳:
Various, coins to purchase the items and arrows required.

    Great video. I planned on getting Ranged and a lot of other skills up before becoming a member. Hello Venoxium! Definitely a wise approach if you ask me! I always aim to get dragon slayer and the F2P quests done before going members. 🤔 That said you can accelerate extremely quickly just starting off straight in members 🤷🏻‍♂️ Guess it’s just preference. I love doing F2P just cos there’s so much content in P2P it’s hard to keep up/catch up 😅 If you have the combat and the runes/arrows farming gem drops for Jewellery and rune drops for high alc from the ogresses can be very profitable too! A good extra step for ironmen is you can also use rings of forging to make steel and sell steal bodies in Varrock for a good profit. 🤔 I need to make a video on that a few ppl suggested it in my money making video and it’s definitely a good idea! Thanks for the comment and the feedback bud! Good luck getting your bonds! 👍

    Thanks you sir this was instructive on how I can level my 1 atk/1 def... On the topic of the crossbow, I was given a free xbow with 3k bronze bolt by a random and used it with a sword for easy swapping between melee/ranged training for the 20 first levels.

    Nice work scoring the free bolts! And thanks 🙏 EthTgeSpurned for your comment and feedback 👍 Hey if someone gives you a load of free stuff early on why not use it? Like you said the first 20 levels are pretty fast. The shame with crossbows is just how limited they are… By now I think at least up to Mith should be added to F2P. 🤔 Id have to look up the stats to be certain, but I think if they did that then, crossbows would potentially be the best range weapons in F2P 😅

    2 things regarding Moss Giants: 1) I believe they are actually the fastest ranged XP all the way to 99 in f2p, since they have much lower defence than Ogress Warriors. I think people prefer to switch to Ogress Warriors at higher levels because they offer much more valuable drops and are more AFKable, even if the XP per hour is lower. 2) An alternative training location to the Varrock Sewers is Crandor. Five or so spawn on the southern end of the island and they can be easily safe-spotted using the nearby Adamant and Coal rocks. It's a bit trickier to get to, especially if you're low level since you have to run past lvl 82 Lesser Demons, but this also means that there's rarely anybody else training on them. It also isn't a multi-combat area, so other players can't steal your kills.

    Hello TurmutHoer! Thanks for all the comments man, really good hints and tips! Apologies for my delay in replying, I've been struck down and spent the last few days recovering... Yeah point 1 is certainly true, Moss Giants are far easier to kill than Ogresses but I recommend switching between the two just to farm some good drops to make some money out of your training, and to mix things up a bit. 👍👍👍 I never twigged the fact its not a multi combat zone on Crandor, so yeah definitely a useful one for ironmen if they don't want there kills stealing! 😎😎

    Hey man, I know this is an old comment but I tested this and you’re right. In a nutshell from my testing, Ranged lvl 75 the following results: Ogresses - Corsair Cove: 1k xp every 3 minutes (e.g. 20k per hour) Moss Giants - Varrock sewers: 1k xp every 2 minutes (e.g. 30k per hour) This means it’s 50% better xp wise, however, the loot table is indeed shit compared to that of Ogress. Added bonus with the loot pool drop of Ogress is that they drop all the runes to enchant lvl 3. Basically you can live out there, especially since there’s a bank not far away.

    Pretty well put together as far as f2p goes,I do however have 2 issues/suggestions with it. 1 Accurate even pre 30 is lower overall dps than Rapid. Always use Rapid 2 Starting at range level 5 Iron arrows give +1 to your max hit over bronze arrows. Considering the costs bronze should never be used either.

    1. is not true: it depends on whether accurate boosts your max hit over rapid. If it does then accurate will be better than rapid.

  • @johnmichaelmorrow1589

    @johnmichaelmorrow1589

    Жыл бұрын

    @@M0odez that’s not true. Rapid fires 33% faster, so after your max hit is 4 with rapid even if it was 5 with accurate that’s only 25% more max hit than 4, so rapid is still better. So with only a few minutes of gameplay where the max hit goes from 1-2 or 2-3 before rapid is always better, mind as well just always use rapid.

    Good question… Ranged is a tough one for afk in F2P 🤔 hmm I would say if you have a lot of mithril arrows to spare or you can afford to buy them, try the lesser demons or the ogresses. You might use a lot of arrows but these guys have a lot of HP so you just have to click to collect your fallen arrows and to attack them. Then you can sit back while you safe spot 🤔 unfortunately that’s probably the best I can suggest. You could also try flesh crawlers in SOS just don’t safe spot and they will be aggressive for 10 minutes at a time. Obviously you will need food and decent defence as you will be taking damage. 😅 Hope that helps man! 👍

    Bit late to video but as others have said, monk robes and a holy symbol at greater demons in deep wildy at the demonic ruins means your overheads never run out as the prayer regen from the area offsets it, those demons have a chance at dropping a rune full helm too but you can get PK'd easily being so remote, it's how I got my first one on my ironman. I just took barronite mace so only thing I risked was the loot drops, they give decent prayer xp from the ashes too

    The one and only application I can come up with for Longbows besides aesthetics (and it's *very* niche) would be something like taking advantage of the increased range in PvP. Best case scenario I can think of for this is playing defense in Castle Wars and doing the whole battlements archer thing. For folks wanting to try that the Maple Longbow has identical stats to its short counterpart but fires two ticks slower on rapid... *or* non-ironmen can grab a Willow Composite Bow off the GE and try to split the difference. You lose 7 Ranged Attack Bonus and you're limited to mythril arrows (which as a fringe benefit are about 7 times cheaper off the GE), but you only lose one tick off your fire rate compared to shortbows if you're both on rapid, and your rapid ties with shortbows on any other style.

  • @TheLumbridgeKnight

    @TheLumbridgeKnight

    3 ай бұрын

    Yeah that’s true, if you were going to use it PvP I’d probably carry a short bow and switch to it once your opponent was within range. For none irons the composite bow seems a good option… Shame there isn’t a maple composite…

    Omfg! I didn't know about Ranged Tutor toggle on auto equip arrows on pick. When I trained mine, just making way to Lvl 30 (just killing poor Monks really hehe..), I was camping at Karamja Volcano for Imps for their valuable beads until Lvl 50. When Lvl 50 up to current, I'm now Lvl 65 just all camping at Ogress. Haha.. what I got from sold beads and mind talismans, I bought like 50K Mithril Arrows sure to get like Lvl 80s. I also brought magic combat set, staff of fire, robes and runes. Since I got enough Lvl 55 Magic for High Alch, I also made combat style switch when I got more Minds, Chaos and Deaths. Good I got Lvl 60 Magic as well. Camping Ogress is like you can stay forever. 😂 I'm quite on and off playing, got bored.. because you know now an adult.. not unlike when I was playing RuneScape on my teens. 😁 Nonetheless, I really like how you represent your guides in your video such detailed and informative. 👍 Thank you Lumbridge Knight! ☺️

    alternate training areas: Lesser demons in karamaja have an easy safe spot to the south of their peninsula and have decent rune item and runes dorps. For non-HCIM, you can camp Greaters at the demonic ruins in the deep wild with monk robes and a holy symbol; never even have to disable your overhead -- it lasts forever.

    Yo KrazzyKlown! Thanks again for another awesome comment 👍 Both are really good shouts! I’ll have to check out the greater demons on my main 👌👌👌 The only reason I went with Moss Giants and Ogresses in the video is there proximity to a bank and the moss giants have a similar amount of hp but much lower defence, while the ogresses are very similar to the lesser demons but have slightly better drops. Absolutely nothing wrong with heading to Karamja instead of the ogresses though! In fact quite a few people still prefer the classic method of training on lessers 👍 Anyone who does do this should take runes to cast LA or HA with you and plenty of ammo so you don’t need to worry about heading back to a bank too often 👍👍

    I range train on the level 7 dark wizards in draynor. At 55def and 40 range I don't need any food and it's ridiculously easy to stack runes and wizard bodies. Even at low range levels you can tank hits and you have fishing, a bank, and WC/FM resources where you'll never zero out your run energy. Draynor is a skiller's paradise. Great spot for Ironmen.

    The level 20s outside varrock are a little better with drop rates on talismans but the rest of the rune drops are basically identical. For early levels, those wizards are arrow sponges and an easy way to build past their aggro and you can skill in peace for all sorts of goodies on draynor beach.

    I was kind of having the idea that it would be interesting if some mid to high level f2p monsters could drop iron and steel crossbows for f2p players, mainly because that would give F2p some more options in the ranged department, though, this would thoroughly upset the f2p im and hcim's ect. But it would be I think, a fun thing to test perhaps.

    Yo Adam! Aww I 100% agree! F2P needs a few more bosses, I think crossbows up to steel or mith and some more magic options! IMO Jagex/OSRS are underselling F2P and by developing it a bit more by adding some of the mid tier options, (that let’s be honest members barely ever use), would probably result in more players and more members. Plus it can’t hurt to have the F2P world be a bit more full! 🤷🏻‍♂️ When I was a kid I dreamt of being a member and that was all off the back of how much I loved F2P.

If you check out the arrow table in this guide: oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Free-to-play_Ranged_training it will show you which arrow type will give you max hits at each ranged level. In most cases Addy arrows will offer you the highest max hit, but those are very expensive arrows. Unless you have a hell of a lot of money I’d save them for tougher enemies and bosses. Steel is much cheaper and for most of the levels only a 1 point lower max hit! 👍

    Hello Matheus! Yeah a totally valid strategy, I only disregarded them due to their distance from a bank, as catching the boat and running all the way to Draynor Bank in F2P is a pain. With good safe spotting, runes for high level Alchemy and a tone of arrows though, you could stay there for a long time. Moss Giants are still probably better though as there defence is really low, like only 30 or something so you will do a much higher DPS and they only have 19 less HP. I guess you got to weight up the chance to get some rune meds versus speed of XP 🤔 Maybe an alternative to the Ogresses Warriors as their defence is higher. Your call man! 👍👍 Thanks for the comment!

    How did you work out the mathmatics to find the amount of arrows needed, I'm trying to work it out

  • @TheLumbridgeKnight

    @TheLumbridgeKnight

    Жыл бұрын

    Yo Sir ruthford2388... I was hoping no one would ask... 😅 And its taken me 20 minutes to work it out as I think I binned some of my notes... Ok so I believe this is how I calculated the amounts (ill use the cows from the 1st section): I took the HP (cows have 8 HP) / Average max hit (from levels 1-20 is 2) = 4 - This number represents the number of arrows needed to kill a cow assuming you hit constant 2's, so 100% accuracy. So to account for arrows that miss I've doubled this number to get 8. I then multiply the average number of arrows by the number of cow I need to kill = 8 * 140 (the 140 is from an exp calculator) = 1120 However, since we will only lose 20% of arrows we only actually need 20% of this number, so 1120 * 0.2 = 224, which is the magic number. Hopefully, that makes sense, I was searching for some kind of guide online, but couldn't really find any thing concrete. So I created this very rough estimation. The average max hit is just from the arrow max hit table on the F2P Ranged Guide on OSRS Wiki so like for bronze arrows 1-5 is 1, 6-14 is 2, 15-20 is 3. So in this case I used 2 as the average.

    The Frogs are better from a pure efficiency/speed perspective 23 hp / 6 def verses 35 hp / 26 def, so you will land more hits on the frogs and they have a decent amount of hp for their level. They only drop big bones though so Hill giants have much better drops and are still a good option for sure, just because of their higher defence you will hit less often 👍 Hope that explains it 😅 Nothing wrong with training at the Hill Giants, plus you might get some giant keys which are needed if you want to fight Obor! Hello Benjamin Navarro! Hope you're enjoying OSRS bud! You can train on the lesser demon if you want. Plus at level 1 range you will use a lot of arrows to kill the demon (as you will hit a lot of zeros). When it comes to enemies you want to look for more than just good safe spots. Enemies with a low Defence and high HP are good because they maximise your DPS, and the higher your DPS the higher your Exp. Yo Milan Van Welden, great question/suggestion, 100% you could AFK using the flesh crawlers (floor 2) or the giant spiders (floor 3). The only reason i didnt consider these guys in the guide is that they have higher ranged defence than the other monsters. My first thought was to train ranged to 99 in SOS, but while these guys would still be easy enough to kill and can be done AFK, if you are willing to click once or twice every couple of minutes your DPS versus my suggested monsters would be technically higher. Plus you will get some better drops from the monsters in my methods, particularly useful if you are playing as an ironman. Be a good thing to compare the exp rates and to be honest an AFK based guide would be really useful as in reality not many people are going to be able to click all the way to 99. Though, for me personally, I'd recommend going members when you hit base 50, 99 in F2P would be very time consuming.

Plus it just made sense to me to make F2P guides first before looking at members content in depth because there’s way more ways to do things in members so it will take a lot more time to research and learn. Also I’m not sure people are leaving the game. www.misplaceditems.com this site claims to track the player count and OSRS is on an upward trend, which would makes sense considering the game just launched on steam recently. I think a lot of people drop in and out, not doubt but I don’t think the player base is declining?
