    One of the best VAG 1.8 problem videos I’ve seen, if not the best. I’ve got the same basic problem. The MAF readings I looked at last night and they seemed fine, I changed the FPR seal from my Jetta and it seemed to help and it was ripped anyway. You’d swear it was a fuel problem but the fuel trims have always been normal. I changed the PBR valve and the hoses that come with the diverter (goes to back of intake), replaced some lines, also. I’m going to change the PCV valve and I have 2 new seals coming ASAP, and I’m go from there...the MAF should read around 1.6 or so times the liter of the car so at idle 3-4 g/s is fis good. What’s so odd is the way it has become basically undriveable after changing said parts lol ...what fun! I think that’s FPR related (put the bad seal on the Jetta it barely starts). I’ll keep you posted...these cars are so finicky. Got fingers crossed.

    Great video! My 2004 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro started misfiring something fierce on my drive home from work today. The info on the vacuum system made it very easy to locate the vacuum leak. Damn 90° elbow that hooks up to the transfer tube (06B 133 607 n) cracked right down the underside of the bend. Thanks again!

    1st: quality content, I should have come across this one earlier, but UNFORTUNATELY by now I can draw the vacuum diagram if you wake me up in the middle of the night 😊 2nd: I am a big VW fan, but recently been struggling with my brother in law's 1.8T and this engine is a PAIN! Kilometers of vac lines, n249, n112 so complicated.. hard lines carry vacuum/water/fuel around the head etc... 5-6 check valves... ofc since it is very common engine you have the resources but takes some time to pinpoint problems. Oh forgot the electronic throttle body.... 😣

    Thanks for the video. I have this car and the Bludriver obd2 reader. My MAF sensor runs about 2.5 at warm idle but my STFT1 is near 25%. I’ve replaced a couple hoses and valves but I’m seeing several that were not replaced. I don’t think I have replaced the lower PCV valve or that big valve on the top. Ugh! I love this car but it won’t pass emotions with Lean Bank 1 and multiple misfires. Driving me crazy!

    I have an 01 B5 Passat with the 1.8T. had all the misfires, without the lean code. Did the coils and plugs, they were Bosch plugs. Same codes. Went to replace the air and cabin filter and the air filter was disgusting. Decided to clean the MAF and the car went crazy. Knew I was onto something and just replaced it with an OEM piece. I could tell the problem was fixed when I pulled away from the curb. On turbo cars, because they are known to suck oil, the MAF should be cleaned with regularity and do not use a K&N filter. Get a good dry filter and the car will perform great.

    My Audi A4 quattoro 1.8t amb engine seems to be the same as yours. I have engine check light turning ON, but not blincking. I changed crankcase pressure regular valve which had whistle sound, a torn blow-by-air hose. But still the light turns on. Engine idles normal, but OBD reads misfire on 2 of 4 cylinders. The engine eats too much gas, too. I guess these symptoms suggest bad ICM rather than bad ignition coil, as I guess it is rare to have more than 2 ignition coil dies exactly at the same time, and as the engine idles. But do you have other idea? I'd appreciate it if you share your experience. Thanks.

    In my case it was giving me Mass Air Flow Sensor G70 error code and CEL and two other lights on my dash, one was for EPC maybe, apparently when the MAF fails it pulls current from other components giving these false positives. Long story short, replacing the MAF fixed all of those errors.

    Excellent! I have the exact list (12) codes that you have. I discount the 0300 through 0304 codes since they are an effect...the engine is missing on all four cylinders because of something else...implausible that all four plugs/coil packs/etc would go simultaneously. My issue only occurs at idle in park or neutral, not under load (Random misfire detected is code description). That leaves only the 0171 (lean code). I replaced the MAF sensor with a Bosch from NAPA (200 bucks)... still throwing codes. The Boost control valve (you called it a pressure regulator valve, I think) is all gummed up, I will replace. The way I see this problem is the PCV, Evap Purge valve (diverter valve), some random vacuum leak, or possibly a bad out of the box MAF sensor, or fuel pressure are likely causes? Sure would like that vaccum diagram and some info on how the hell you got to the PCV valve!!! I don't have a hoist.... thanks again! keep up the good work

    @@ecanixgarage1106 Thanks for the reply, ya I can use the obd2 to get codes but won't respond to the emissions test. I researched it could be the Cigarette lighter fuse its tied to, but that one doesn't look blown and cigarette lighter works. Last year it did the same thing, because I had to disconnect the battery to try to reset codes to get my emissions test done. Multiple shops said emissions machines couldn't test it. When I took it to the dealership somebody told me your not suppose to disconnect the batteries on Audis which didn't make much sense to me and I think they said they had to reflash sometime. I don't see why disconnecting the battery is so bad as it needs to be done when work is needed in many cases. So I'm feeling like I may have to bite the bullet and take it to the dealership again, unless it is a fuse I didn't check yet.

    I'm having the same issue. Shaky idle, but runs ok accelerating. No matter if its cold, warm or hot, it gets shaky. According to scanner it shows misfires in cilinder 3 and 4, besides a MAF issue. Over the past 3 years I've changed 2 of the coils. I'm waiting for the parts to arrive and change them. I've already checked the bleeder valve and the PCV. If the coils don't improve I will have to buy a new MAF. I will update on the proceedings.

    It’s some type of timing problem, they told me I need a new engine because all 4 cylinder are misfiring and going into limp mode. And even then changing the timing belt won’t work since the cars has so many miles they say . Not sure what I could do . If possible I would email you a video of the car sound at idle maybe you could help .

    Justin Medina sounds like you need a 2nd opinion from a shop that deals with Vw/Audi’s. That isn’t a very good reason to replace a motor. Could be the cam chain tensioner. It needs to be scanned with the Vagcom/Vcds system. That car also has a timing chain that control the cams position

    Thanks for this video! I have the infamous P0171 code right now that I am trying to fix. Old guy is the best! He has been helping through this. I have yet to find the problem. I have performed a boost leak test, smoke test, Fuel pressure test, and even sprayed everything down with carb choke cleaner. Can't find a leak anywhere. I even replaced the fuel filter. Somehow the previous owner installed the fuel filter backwards!!! I posted my code reader readings on the Audizine site and Old Guy stated my MAF is behaving as it should but, maybe I should replace the MAF. i just don't want to throw on parts I don't need to replace. Where can I order the check valves so I can replace all of them? My next step is to inspect the Kombi valve since the secondary air system monitor is not in the ready status.

    Drew Maximus just order the check valves online with the part numbers off the old one. As far as the "combi" valve I'm concerned. Old guy will walk you through testing! I just purchased a MAF from Ebay for 17 bucks. I'll see if that fixes the p0171 problem but, according to Old Guy, my MAF readings were normal during idle. I've checked everything and the only thing left is the MAF and combi valve. While I wait for the MAF to come in I'll inspect the combi to make sure it is functioning correctly. Thanks for the video! Drew Maximus you ran the homemade boost tester with 15 pounds running through the system? Where are you hooked in right after the MAF? That's how I discovered my leak which was a loose hose clamp coming off the intake on driver side top. 3 inch hose I believe. I literally turn the clamp half turn and the code cleared, when I ran the 15 psi boost test as old guy recommended I heard it hissing from there. Old guy is the best!

  • @tranquil238

    @tranquil238

    7 жыл бұрын

    yes he is! I made a homemade tester as Old Guy recommended but, no leaks anywhere. Is there something that is related to the boost system that resides on the driver side fender, under the coolant reservoir? I just pulled off the MAF and cleaned it. WOW! A lot of black soot dripped out of the MAF. I sprayed it until the fluid dripped out clear. I let it dry out and just reinstalled it. I'm going to take it for a spin tonight and see what happens. I believe I have to drive it for about 20 miles for the ECU to pick up the MAF readings. I saw some videos stating if you pull the connector off the MAF while the engine is running and the engine stays running, the MAF has a problem. They stated the engine should shut right off once you pull the MAF connector. My engine stayed running, which is why I decided to clean it. Might as well while I wait for the new one.. LOL

    It can be alot of things that has put your car into limp mode, maf, map, vacuum or boost leak and that also means bad injector seals, first vag-com it by someone who can use the software and diagnose the issue, not all error codes mean that part is faulty, something else can cause a sensor to throw up an error, you need an experienced mechanic, also checking for boost and vacuum leaks use a smoke machine though the air intake, these are a few things that can cause a car into limp mode. There are many more.
