I was waiting for him to say God Damnit Bobby well mixed bands and propane are what made this country great.
Thanks for the video. I always enjoy seeing how other folks build a mix. I always learn something new.
Thanks for the info! Always good to hear.
I can never get back these minutes of my life.
I know people can be critical of how the camera has picked up the audio, but the glass is more than half full if you can appreciate that the fundamentals of what he's teaching are great. Thanks for a good video, full of important tips for beginners. I will forward this link on our web site even though we compete with Yamaha in the speaker market. There's a lot of good people that work for that company. Cheers.
I appreciate the initiative Yamaha has taken to help us utilise their equipment better, maybe this is my first time searching or stumbling on this... I want an explicit tutorial from them on sound set up for church equipment and instrument
This is a very good video. I don't know why there are so many haters. This is very good for someone who has never done sound before. This video is not about tweeting sound. It's about how to assemble a pa and how to go through the process. STOP HATING.
"hear the ringing? let's adjust the snare.". rings even more. haha

All these comments here have no idea. He increased the gain of the sweep volume to identify and enhance the volume of the ringing so he knows what frequency to cut. ( most of you won't even understand )
The essence of this video was to learn how to mix live, of course you can always make a better recording in a studio, with hours of time and an acoustically sound room, this was still good clinic, if you come in with the understanding that this is live mixing. If you expect professional studio quality, in a room that isnt a studio, than you are in for a bad time, listen to any live album, then listen to that same album that was recorded in a studio, its literally a 180 degree turn from the other. The only thing i didn't like was the dinosaur of a console.
Talks with the mic a full foot away from his face: "So we as soundmen really hate when a musician does X"
A hell of good equipment nice job
Very informative, lotsa knowledge thanks!
Your videos were indispensable to getting me started in live sound. Now, six months later (and plenty gigs later!) I am looking at the series again to see it from a different perspective. I'm sure I'll learn something from re-watching this. I am working as the soundman at a local church and have been hired by many of the prominent local cover bands in my area, more than once (with great results each time)! I love the job and have worked hard to educate myself and become a competent soundguy.
thank u very much for such a helpful video....
hank hill be showin how to live mix
great setup
Great but what's the problem of the camera man?He must take sound direct from the mixerFor a video like that!!!

If this were a televised live gig would there be a line out of some sort from the desk to the cameras so they could record sound and vision?
piz used for video Yamaha mgp mixer
There's that guy Raz Klinghoffer , that has some really cool technics, he mixed on of my songs, so if you're looking for an engineer this is your guy
Would be nice to see each move: BD mic was moved at beginning; doesn't show where. Just talks about moving it an inch?
oh my gosh!!! i was thinkin the same thing!
Hello everybody. What is the best migxer between montarbo mx28 and yamaha mgb 24x, please give some one rebounds
how about listening to the band play so you can hear whats coming off the stage first, so you know whats to loud that you cannot put it in the mix ? that's more important ! and sub your instruments > drums >keys > voc backups >gut> bass if needed
@jeremyx2k1 I will add gates should be used when recording drums with or without a rack, but toms can be allowed a much more natural and longer release/decay/hold time, and the kick will have a much more clean sound, by using a rack. I would think a rack would have been used for this sort of venue. Cleaner mix and longer decay can be more easily achieved with a rack. Have you tried it before?
because if you run the sound out of the mixer directly into the camera, you won't hear the room and how it affects the sound coming out of the PA. For instance, if the room has a resonance in the low mids (let's say 400Hz) and the teacher adjusts the PA for that resonance and makes it sound natural, then the direct feed to the camera would sound very odd. And then you'd probably complain about that as well...
@boomerhawk01 On the board? Only if you're clipping with the gain all the way down.
Is this how band like a7x,dream theatre etc will play live concert?,please help.
Every band I have played in I have always been told to not have the "low cut" on. Why is this? With the low cut on the bass drum it just sounds better. So why is it important to have the low cut off on the bass drum? Anyone?
BTW... You're using a Yamaha MG24 board, yes? I used one of those recently on a job. Pretty good board.
do you pad the base drum?
whats the name of that mixer?
Ohh is this a family band ? :d 🤣 7:17 ahaha 🤣 . Treat em like they're humans . 🤣 . ??? Now do you usually mix for the dog orchestra ? 🤣
oldschool....
@easymusiccenter oh this is hawaii..? makes sense
Are you mixing in mono or stereo?
subtitulos en español please!!!
Ha thanks for confirming what my ears thought they heard 😂😂😂
You need a gate on those toms
Technically they are cycles. But they are commonly referred to Hz and kHz
@axelp2104 I hear him perfectly...
remember what you hear isnt what the audience is hearing, you are hearing the camera mics sound, which is terrible haha
i like this. i can tell hes not doing his best tho cuz hes not fully focused. i do the same thing
Orkes e ecek ecek mung pemain wedok e tok sing... -masookkk pak eko- 🤣🤣🤣
I make mine very punchy and low!
A great informative video which I found very useful. Pity the video sound was a bit poor...
this is painfully awkward

*bad.
@robdrums69 The kick would sound A LOT better if the toms were floating on a rack. No rack = crappy kick with toms ringing every time you kick it.
To flatlinelinx, that's what gates are for.
Little higher on the COWBELL ...
Useful information but the camera angle on the mixer board is really uncomfortable. Very disorienting. Try shooting from over the engineer's shoulder or angle in from the side.
can see why the sound guys do this and the band hangs in the bar lol
cannot see anything he explains
that kick sounds like shit you need to gate it. so it sounds nice and tight
I guess no one knows.....
I hardly understand every word he say.. How can he teach sound stuff when he cant fix his voice?
He starts by doing the thing I hate the most, making the kickdrum sound like crap.
seems like this vid is for teaching the basics of a live mix, not for tone or quality of mix.
so what happened to having a direct line of your pa's mixer to this camera that everything is shot with? It's a little ironic that you guys are doing sound clinics and allowing such terrible audio quality for the actual video.
@paulsn Hawaii has a lot of Asian folks....Of a staff of 20 people in our store, 2 people don't have some Asian blood....just the demographics I guess....
What do you mean by that? What does grammar have to do with live sound? I guess i missed your joke.
That kick sounded like crap to begin with
Not on that......ummm.......>desk?
why are there all asian people in the band?
Because Asians and electronics go hand in hand, duh....You remember all those guys that used to do your math homework for you in high-school...?
oh my god what a bad sound!!!
Errr- - - - Just Blahh
everyone thinks their a sound guy....
That kick sounds like crap
Honestly the sound sucks in this video.
Terrible demo. Had high hopes. Even the camera angle gives me a headache.
Most so called "sound techs" don't do it well. Most suck.
bad camera angle, glad your not a film director.
Still sounds awful. Time for disruption
