I know people can be critical of how the camera has picked up the audio, but the glass is more than half full if you can appreciate that the fundamentals of what he's teaching are great. Thanks for a good video, full of important tips for beginners. I will forward this link on our web site even though we compete with Yamaha in the speaker market. There's a lot of good people that work for that company. Cheers.

I appreciate the initiative Yamaha has taken to help us utilise their equipment better, maybe this is my first time searching or stumbling on this... I want an explicit tutorial from them on sound set up for church equipment and instrument

This is a very good video. I don't know why there are so many haters. This is very good for someone who has never done sound before. This video is not about tweeting sound. It's about how to assemble a pa and how to go through the process. STOP HATING.

All these comments here have no idea. He increased the gain of the sweep volume to identify and enhance the volume of the ringing so he knows what frequency to cut. ( most of you won't even understand )

The essence of this video was to learn how to mix live, of course you can always make a better recording in a studio, with hours of time and an acoustically sound room, this was still good clinic, if you come in with the understanding that this is live mixing. If you expect professional studio quality, in a room that isnt a studio, than you are in for a bad time, listen to any live album, then listen to that same album that was recorded in a studio, its literally a 180 degree turn from the other. The only thing i didn't like was the dinosaur of a console.

Your videos were indispensable to getting me started in live sound. Now, six months later (and plenty gigs later!) I am looking at the series again to see it from a different perspective. I'm sure I'll learn something from re-watching this. I am working as the soundman at a local church and have been hired by many of the prominent local cover bands in my area, more than once (with great results each time)! I love the job and have worked hard to educate myself and become a competent soundguy.

how about listening to the band play so you can hear whats coming off the stage first, so you know whats to loud that you cannot put it in the mix ? that's more important ! and sub your instruments > drums >keys > voc backups >gut> bass if needed

  • @FlatlineLinx

@jeremyx2k1 I will add gates should be used when recording drums with or without a rack, but toms can be allowed a much more natural and longer release/decay/hold time, and the kick will have a much more clean sound, by using a rack. I would think a rack would have been used for this sort of venue. Cleaner mix and longer decay can be more easily achieved with a rack. Have you tried it before?

  • @Soundboy61088

because if you run the sound out of the mixer directly into the camera, you won't hear the room and how it affects the sound coming out of the PA. For instance, if the room has a resonance in the low mids (let's say 400Hz) and the teacher adjusts the PA for that resonance and makes it sound natural, then the direct feed to the camera would sound very odd. And then you'd probably complain about that as well...

Every band I have played in I have always been told to not have the "low cut" on. Why is this? With the low cut on the bass drum it just sounds better. So why is it important to have the low cut off on the bass drum? Anyone?

Useful information but the camera angle on the mixer board is really uncomfortable. Very disorienting. Try shooting from over the engineer's shoulder or angle in from the side.

so what happened to having a direct line of your pa's mixer to this camera that everything is shot with? It's a little ironic that you guys are doing sound clinics and allowing such terrible audio quality for the actual video.
