Hi, unsolicited advice here. It would be really useful to insert stainless steel or carbon rods into the wall when reconstructing larger pieces of architectural elements. The weight of the material is going to cause a detachment and is going to break off if it doesn't have support. It would be a shame if it would break when you did such a good job in moulding it. You should drill several holes in the wall and insert the rods with glue and mould over them. The length of the rodes should be a little shorter than the width of the profilation, not counting the part that goes into the wall. Try a couple of hole depths and test it by hanging something heavy on it. Good job so far...coming from a professional conservator. Wish you luck in future endeavours.

I subscribed when you just had about 40. When I started taking care of my mom when she got sick. She needed something to break from the routine. I showed her your videos and she was hooked. It was one of her highlights for the week. I lost her a couple of months ago and haven’t been able to watch without her, until I watched this one, it was very emotional for me. She so loved watching young folks restoring a home and she often said how much she wanted to see it and you guys in person. Thank you for the gift you gave us of your journey and I will still be watching and perhaps one day when you’re open I’ll come see for the both of us. Although historic interiors are my first love, I think the artist in me loves the pure craft of fixing the facade. Seeing something transforming from worn, raggedy and in peril, to crisp, beautiful and *new* looking, through pure craftsmanship and quality materials, it soothes my soul that suffers greatly in this fast everything world.

I feel like we're close to a tipping point where the pace of work/results will start getting more apparent faster in the next year. Although it was your commitment to historical accuracy that drew me in to your channel, I'm weirdly most excited to see you get you personal living quarters, and basement kitchen completed. once you have a kitchen, it will feel more like a real house! Are you planning on having a mini kitchen in your attic apartment?

Caleb, not only are you an excellent craftsman, but you are a true gentleman. Your affectionate and grateful approach to your viewers is outstanding. You and Kim are a great team and a welcome antidote to some of the vitriolic political comment coming out of the US in these troubled times.

Do you ever wonder or feel that you are reincarnated from the same era as your house? The incredible love of skilled workmanship it takes to complete such an undertaking is just amazing! The best to you and your fiance'!

I keep thinking about how this old girl must feel. Finally, she’s being brought back, and in some ways, made better than she was in her best days.

I love watching the progress of this house coming back to life. As an artist myself, I have really enjoyed watching you repair the limestone on the front of the building the most. The exterior stuff is fascinating to watch as it comes together.

It's so smart to let the building decide. It's always an uncomfortable feeling when one goes against the building. Totally serious when I say that. I am so impressed by all the work you have done and your perseverance with all of it. Patience too. Such a beautiful building. Glad you are taking care of it as it deserves.

Love mansard roofs!!! Designed one when custom building our home in Ma. In the early eighties!! The builders were so excited to build it…one man begged them not to put it on while he took his kids to Disneyworld…he didn’t want to miss being a part of it!!! Love second empire…you are working on a treasure!! Both of you be blessed!!!

Haha, the builder who didn't want to miss out on any progress is so wholesome! I think most of us who watch this channel understand that feeling because craftsmanship like that... Well, we can be pretty passionate and not want to miss a single detail.

Reviews like this are a good exercise, taking stock, celebrating wins...it keeps a person going when so much of our focus is on the current task at hand. It really is incredible how much you accomplished and I'm glad you took the time to reflect on the last 6 months and celebrate your victories.

It's a gem that will be a diamond when completed.

Great work over the last 6 months. Watching that entire sill and corbel come back from near disintegration was great.

Amazing work, Kaleb and Kim! Very satisfying to see the front stone work being brought back, and that powder room is stunning. More to sink ones' teeth into this season, so much focused progress seen there. Well done. Watching house flips can be entertaining, but with all the short attention span home renovation shows on cable, it's so nice to see someone do a deeper dive into the whole process, like the original 'This Old House' series did. Love all the time-lapses, YES, but equal time given to the details and small missteps. As someone who has restored a few old Victorians over the years, all that is an integral part of the journey. Looking forward to season 3!

Watching you reconstruct the front of your house is so rewarding! 🥰 I can only imagine how you must feel. Every time we are in STL I say to my husband and family “I want to drive by Kaleb’s and Kim’s house!”. Of course, we never have, but maybe one day. 🤷‍♀️

Thank you! I most definitely will one day! We are usually heading straight to a Cardinals game. We haven’t done an entire weekend this year. We’re only 2 hours away in the Effingham, IL area for the last 6.5 years so we do quick trips. We are from the Peoria, IL area and that use to take us more like 3-3.5 hours so we would make a weekend of it.

I am 72 years old and have worked with my hands all my life. You do very very impressive work. What you did to that exterior window is borderline miraculous!! If I was a wealthy man I would give you a truck load of money, I am sure you could use it. You are the perfect couple for this project. As someone that has been restoring a mid-century house over the past couple years, I commend you for the work that you are doing. It's a grind, but it shows how much you care about your house and community. We need more people like you.

I love it when people do speed ups to show progress. Like many here, I, too, have followed you since the beginning. You have definitely come a long way!

I definitely think it’s a smart plan to do the exterior of the house before winter hits and wreaks havoc on the roof more so .. once that part is out of the way , then you can finish another bathroom or the kitchen

In a word: Outstanding! You guys have accomplished so much, imagine what the next six months will bring! I'm glad you weren't affected by the floods, I was concerned. My uncle lives in St Charles and they had a flooded basement but that was all, thankfully. Hope your pinched nerve is resolving, I know it's gotta be frustrating not to be able to dive into the next project. Like someone else remarked, it does my soul good to watch all the careful craftmanship you put into everything, Kaleb.

Wow. Seeing the entire process of the powder room restoration really drives home the amount of work you put in. There are times when creating 'functional' is the goal, but you needed to see your artistic vision through to the end on at least one room. The golden light in that space does transport one to another time. :D The exterior 're-sculpting', as I like to call it, is the sort of thing I would do (not really one for tall ladders). The sharp, crisp lines are bringing the facade into focus. You are kind, humble, creative people, and it's no surprise that appeals to those of us here on KZread. See you next week! :)

Hey all the new people got to see what we been watching for the last year and a half. Great video!!✌️🇺🇲

The color matching in the bathroom of the tiles to the wainscoating to the wall paper was really cool because for those of us that have watched from the beginning know none of that was there and seeing the artist at work on the outside was cool because it shows other people what they can do. I once saw a house online for sale that was a bungalow that should have had all the antique features in it like pocket doors or stained glass and none of it was there - everything was modernized inside to sell the home - it was really depressing. If I was to go buy a house today I wouldn't want a recently built one I'd want yours! Lol!

Can't wait to see how the building will look once the front and mansard are fixed, the fences are on n such! She's gonna be all beautiful again 🤩

Stumbled upon this channel during 2020, so happy to see someone restoring some of the history in my hometown. Love watching you work. Watching your videos reminds me of home, and how great the people are.

Fantastic video! Unbelievable that the window stonework could be restored. Before you open your house (and more importantly the restroom) to the public, might I suggest either putting in a hook or small stand/bench with a sign "For Milady's Handbag." Women often carry heavy purses and don't like setting them on the restroom floor and might put it on the sink. Over time it might weaken its supports or mark up the sink (some purses have little metal feet). Just a thought.

Wow, that really was a big season. I feel like things are going to start going faster on the outside now that you've perfected your skills. Can't wait to see what the next season brings.

Kaleb, you are a man of all trades. If you don’t know the proper historical method of restoring, you research it and become a a craftsman of each project you do. I enjoyed watching the time lapse of the Transformation of the powder room and facade! Watching it weekly is enjoyable, and the recap is so satisfying. The shot of the room with sun rays coming through your beautiful windows , showing the elegance of your period appropriate furniture was a glimpse of how The Brown’s lived. As I’ve said from the beginning, I believe you have an old soul combined with your work ethics, passion for restoring this house that was close to being lost forever, and your love for Kim that is my cup of sunshine weekly. I think of Kim often too, knowing she is your support & has her own skills in working on projects AND planning your upcoming wedding!

We aren't related and this is not my home, but, I am so proud of you. Your attention to the details is so amazing. She'll be an ABSOLUTE BEAUTY when you're done.
