1/48 Airfix Spitfire P.R. XIX

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi Viewers! I'm excited to drop another video so close to my last release. In this episode, I am building the Airfix Supermarine Spitfire PR XIX in 1/48 scale. Being a single colour, it presented a challenge in making it engaging visually.
I also decided to scratch build some panel covers and add structure that would be visible in the tail of the aircraft.
Sit back and enjoy!

    Nice bit of scratch building, cameras look good, inspection ports, and panels an added plus. Beautiful paint work. Modelers best and oldest friend, the sponge. I've got the Airfix 1/24th Typhoon and I'll get the 1/24th Hellcat, but the rest have to many mistakes to fight with. I love the Tamiya P-47 family and I'll fill in with Tamiya, Meng and some Eduard Luftwaffe fighters. Great looking PR bird. Congrats on the awards! BRAVO!

    These days I fly real airplanes. When I was a kid I used the same brush, mixed the paint, used the same thinner over and over again, borrowed my dad's cigarette lighter to melt the parts to simulate battle damage. Sometimes I would use a vice and other tools from the garage to create certain effects. The end result here is impressive but it seems that I had more fun. I would spend hours on one model. I even copied Roger Dean and got a bird's skull from a bird our cat dragged in and substituted it for the nose of an SR-71. I had one of the first model kits they made in the 70 s and if I remember correctly it cost me a lot of money. Well, a lot of money for a 10 year-old kid. I painted it red and wish I still had it. I think it got thrown out along with my hockey cards after I left home. I like looking at some of these modern models that you guys put together but it just doesn't have the mystique and wonder that I experienced as a kid. The internet has taken a lot of that away. I dunno, Just my take.

    Beautiful, love the PR Spifires. This Airfix kit looks right in the shapes. The only thing I don't like about Airfix kits is the engraved panel lines thicker than other manufacturers. Airfix should have the resources to improve that aspect.

  • @TheModelGuy

    @TheModelGuy

    Жыл бұрын

    They do have the resources but I don’t think they have the drive to fix it. If people are still buying their kits as is, there’s no incentive either. Tamiya had beautiful 1/48 panel lines on the 1993 Mustang…but Airfix still has troughs.

  • @timmy3822

    I LOVE these photo recon spits, the blue colour is in my eye utterly gorgeous and suits the Spit oddly well. Lovely build, I'm still learning the ropes in many respects on cheap 1:72 kits to cut me teeth on. My hope is to get the Airfix Gloster Javelin kit, an aircraft I have a real soft spot for as I always felt history judged it far too harshly. That, and it looks stunning with that thick delta wing :).

    I like airfix kits...i know they are not perfect some more so than others...but a lot of model builders consider a kit useless unless it has all the bangs and whistles. Model building was in my youth and still is taking a kit and improving it or scratch building it completely. The fun is making it work. Im afraid most molders want it "handed" to them without much effort.

    I really don't understand why so many modelers complain about using decals - I've always gotten excellent results and actually look forward to the decal stage. Using quality decals and applying them properly is key which I see a lot of modelers not doing. If done right you shouldn't be able to tell they are decals.

  • @TheModelGuy

    @TheModelGuy

    3 жыл бұрын

    I'd say avoid them. There is a lot of clean up required and you'll find yourself asking why they made the engineering choices they did. If you are really passionate about an airframe, then there is an end goal to work towards. If you are just building a kit to build something, it is hard with some of their kits to stay motivated. This kit isn't too bad but the landing gear leaves a bit of head scratching and elevators need work to square up.
