Where does 1.414 come from and why is it used with 45º offsets?

It is the same for both imperial or metric systems since the relationship between sides of the triangle are presented as a ratio (unitless)

What If your looking for the travel with a fittin that goes from 45 to 90 or 45 to tee

The same procedure can be used. The travel in each case (with all SET values being equal) will be the same. We are still using a 45° fitting to start the offset. The difference will be the pipe cut length between the fittings which is dependent on the takeout of both fittings. TL = CL + (F1TO + F2TO) WHERE: TL = TRAVEL LENGTH CL = CUT LENGTH F1TO = FITTING 1 TAKEOUT (45 elbow) F2TO = FITTING 2 TAKEOUT (90 elbow or TEE)

So hypothetically if we have an offset angle of 67.5 could we multiply by 1.207? (.414\2)

The calculation shown (where the run and set are equal ) only applies to a 45 degree offset -for other offset angles, the run and set are not equal. You can calculate travel factors or use a table of tangents for other offset angles.

Not sure how additional illustrations would help unless you mean to include specific example numbers. All content in the video created by UHP - not borrowed from a book.
