Nice kit review, I do like the vintage Tamiya armor since many still came with poly caps and easy to motorize.🙂

Back in the day, I had a single motor tamiya Panzer4 kit. It had a single motor and plastic geared gearbox. Unfortunately, the gearbox wore out in a month with light use. Unusually for Tamiya back in the day.

Very nice build, John! I just finished mine, and I wonder if it's just the lighting, or something else - we both used XF63, but yours looks much more lighter than mine. Did you "dust" it with lets say Deck Tan or something? As a side note, I have to correct something: "Ausf." is the German abbreviation (only in writing, never in speech) of "Ausführung" (version/type/model/pattern), and will always be fully enunciated as such! Like in English "Mk.I" is "Mark One" and not "Em-Kay One". If it's to hard for you to say "Ausführung", just say "Panzer Four Dee". I don't wanna be wise-ass, it simply sounds funny❣

the lighting does change the color somewhat, but I did add a lightening wash for the sun fade effects, I mentioned it in the video it's very thinned flat white

If one is after authenticity, this is a horrible kit which is full of oversimplified/non existent details and outright errors. If one is after a quick built without worries about parts fit, it’s alright. The parts engineering is what Tamiya is rightfully famous for. I tried to upgrade the kit once but failed miserably due to an oversight on my end. After that, I sold all my remaining Tamiya kits of a certain age, I think pretty much none of those pre- year 2000 kits survived this ‘purge’. You did a tremendous job on this one. I think a key is to just accept its many shortcomings, and build it for its own right just like you did.

As I mentioned in the video, this is a entry level kit. If you are looking for something more detailed or accurate there are much better options on the market, but this comes at the expense of complexity. If someone is looking for that type of experience they should have the skills required to tackle a build to that caliber. For this one as you stated it's best to just be built as a casual fun or practice build and enjoy it as is.
