This version is slightly bigger by few cm. The turret looks massive, especially with the inner gut like the real thing.

AQPlayer92 Thanks for letting us know about the size differences. I don't own the original production kit. Your right, the turrets look and are huge! This gives a Moslem more options for building and displaying.

great video, ive been in a toss up between getting the premium and non premium for a long time now. in my australia the standard one is about $170 (aud prices) whilst the premium is $400, so i can get the standard one with a wooden deck, metal barrels and a big eduard set of photo etch for less than the premium one (probably around 300 to 350). Im honestly swinging more towards the standard one, i imagine the difference in part quality cant be too drastic.

They are both fine kits. The premium one is a much newer molding and has far greater detail...but either one builds up into a really fine looking model, so you should be happy either way.

Great video - really interesting and informative and have subscribed. Here's a question for you - is the Premium edition worth it? OR would it be better to buy the basic Yamato kit and supplement it with a Prontos aftermarket set?

Thank you for the support. I have to honestly say I do not own the original kit. However, I looked at videos of the original kit and thought I may as well go with the new one for it was the "new and improved." There was no inbox reviews of the Premium Edition YAMATO so I did one after buying it. I am glad I bought the Premium for I think it gives you the most options. You do have to buy more add on's to make it more authentic which to me makes no sense? If you are buying a Premium kit, why is the customer buying more add on's? With saying that, I still would buy the Premium. Just by looking at videos of the old kit to this Premium I think the new tooling looks better.. In the end it comes down to cost and options I suppose?

Where i live I have to order most things. So I look for bargains. I can't buy paints and such for it's classified as a dangerous substance. It has held up my YAMATO build. Seems how I did not own any YAMATO kit I went with the new one. After reading the fourms most said by the time they upgraded the old kit they could have just bought the Premium for the same cost?

I have purchased almost every variant of this ship from 1/700 scale up to 1/200 and numerous 1/35 kits of the Yamato's AA guns and this one is by far the most accurate and detailed version of her on the eve of her last mission. It all depends on how accurate you want your ship to be and if you don't mind the price. I paid around $60 for the original and upgraded it with aftermarket photo-etched sets and it turned out pretty neat.

leongt1954 I can speak as to the Tamiya regular version of the kit but from what I seen online, it pretty basic. The premium Yamato ( If looking for a quality build ) is the way to go. I'll be doing a review of the aftermarket items once they arrive in the post. I will attempt a 1/200 scale ship, most likely the HOOD.

Melvin Johnson I think so. Not only do you get the option of parts, but you get the option of waterline display or full hull. You also get the new tooling. All around it’s a better kit! Some buy the cheap kit and then the aftermarket parts. By the time they are done they tripled the cost past Premium kit. You do get what you pay for.

The Tamiya's new tool separate hull bow fits badly in areas of long compound curves that are mismatching in radius across a huge amount of detail... Be prepared that the joint will NEVER, ever look perfect... I would much recommend the Hasegawa 1:450 over this due to the one piece hull. Also, new research has invalidated the stern shape, both Hasegawa and Tamiya. The true stern shape is still unclear, so other IJN ships are a safer bet, if you want to stick with 350 scale. However, Hasegawa's Nagato has comletely wrong rear hull and prop shaft positions, so that is even worse....
