Hi Robert, As ever I'm amazed by your collection in terms of numbers and the experience it has afforded you, no doubt, as a modeller. Truly awe inspiring but I do find your videos frustrating in so far as the visual quality or specifically the resolution. I genuinely believe you are selling yourself short here. I would love to be able to see your models closer as to how as you see them in real life rather than the soft focus image we have at the moment. When I first came across your videos about a year ago I think I just assumed they were from the late 90s early 2000s and thought nothing of it. I tended to not watch your videos when they came up and my search results, but having bought just the latest re-issue of the Airfix 1:24 Stuka I am fascinated to here how it compares with the newer Trumpeter take on this aircraft. As a returning modeller I would imagine of the same generation The Airfix kit was as a child the kit more than any other in the world I'd aspired to owning and building so I am watching this avidly. As I write this comment I want to make it clear it is meant as nothing but constructive criticism.

If you check the size of a real Ju87B - From Wiki.. 11.1m length 13.8m span - The Airfix is very close being a true 1/24 Airfix: L - 45.8cm ... S - 57.4cm ( L - 1/24.2 ... S - 1/24.0 ) Trumpeter: L - 54cm ... S - 70.8cm ( L - 1/20.5 ... S - 1/19.5 ) **scale calc to 1 decimal place** Beautifully finished kits Robert. Maybe Trumpeter should market it at 1/20

One thing i'd love to see, but it's proving difficult to find, is the tooling process. Working out how the kit fits together, laying out the parts on a prototype sprue, and then designing the moulds, casting them and then all the intricate (cnc?) work to add details like panel lines, rivets etc. Maybe the manufacturers don't want us to see this?

David R Lentz, USA You set out to answer a question I (and likely many of us) have. And not just the Junkers JU-87 Stuka Dive Bomber, but all such aircraft. Thank you. At 5:00, you note a strikingly significant size difference between the two completed models, Trumpeter’s being round 8 cm (3.5”) larger in wingspan and length. Well, this is visibly obvious! Most importantly, which is correct? Well, you raise the question. I must put it to you and your viewers as to how this happened. And especially, which is correct to the proper proportionality of an actual Junkers JU-87B Stuka Dive Bomber? Incidentally, I very much would like to build 1:25th-scale kits of 1) the Chance Vought F4U-1, -1A, -1C, -1D, -2, and -4 Corsair USN/USMC/FAA Fighter, 2) the North American Aviation P-51D and -K Mustang USAAF Fighter; 3) the Republic P-47M Thunderbolt USAAF High-Altitude Interceptor, 4) the Lockheed P-38E, -F, -G, -H, -J, -L, and -M Lightning USAAF Fighter; amongst others. I also would like 1:25th-scale kits of the early combat aircraft of the Great War of 1914-1918, both for their military service, and for civilian uses immediately after. First amongst these is the de Havilland DH-4 Bomber, which in the 1920s (along with the DH-4B) became mail carriers for the U.S Postal Service; 2) the SPAD XIII pursuit aeroplane, the Nieuport 28 fighter, the Sopwith Camel fighter, 3) Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5/5A scout-fighter, 4) the Albatros Flugzeugwerke Albatros D.I pursuit aeroplane (the last [of the company’s] fighter to see operational service with the Luftstreitkräfte [Imperial German Air Service] during the First World War); 5) the Fokker D-1 and DR-VII fighters. After the war, some of these, repainted in bright colours, I understand to have served in aerial acrobatics in public shows (“barnstorming”) across the USA and western Europe. And whilst I am thinking on it, perhaps a kit of a Boeing B-747-8 Transport. And possibly, a Lockheed C-5M Galaxy USAF Heavy Airlift Transport.

Why would they? They would have to supply various insurance, 401K, vacation time, maternity leave, etc. and pay people roughly $15.00 an hour. So, you would have to pay $300.00 for a kit that can made overseas for $70.00, made by labor that gets no insurance, and makes roughly $1.00 US a day. This is why American corporations manufacture overseas. Besides, these days, foreign labor skills are equivalent to US labor skills, because of modern manufacturing technologies and CNC. American companies do better if they produce specific or customized products, such as specialized machine products. Say, race engines, for example. Prototypes. R&D. This is the way it is. The boomers killed American mass manufacturing industries in favor of profit.

@georgecoventry8441
Жыл бұрын
Why is it so popular? Many reasons! 1. It had a huge effect on the battlefield in the earlier part of the war, being a very accurate dive bomber. 2. It is totally unique in appearance, and very aggressive looking. 3. It's German. (German subjects from WWII always sell extremely well, and they sell to plenty of people who are *not* in any way fans of the Nazis or their political theories. You don't have to be pro-Nazi to be interested in the historical German equipment from that time period.) 4. Is it ugly? Yes....but it did its job extremely well. So what if it's ugly? So are a good many other famous planes that are popular...on both sides of that war...and since then. If a plane is very well known, it's usually a very popular subject for modeling. It's the obscure and little known aircraft which are not going to be so "popular"...regardless of whether they're "good looking" or not. The Stuka was a major player in that war, and thus, people are interested in building models of the Stuka.

It looks like it means 'business' As a Brit scale modeller, you'd think I would be a Huge Spitfire fan - However, from WW2, I do prefer the look of the Hurricane. It just looks more 'workmanlike' to my eye. I also love the look of the Bf.110 - so maybe I'm just weird - LOL
@Captain-Nostromo

@georgecoventry8441

Interesting to see the difference. I wonder which one isn't to scale. Based on my experience Airfix is pretty good at scale so that would be my guess. I've never built a Trumpeter kit so I couldn't comment on those. Video had a lot of extraneous information not relevant to the subject.
