Always good to know how, once you do certain types of work on cars, first brake pad and disc was very scary but useful to know and something you won't forget. But even though I do things the right way, I can't seem to trust my own work?

why do you choose semi synthetic? and why 10w/40? I have the same car and could do with help choosing the oil thank you !

+TheOneThat Commented Hi there, I choose the oil based on price, cheapest oil is all i will give a car that is that old, a polo is never going to be a collectible, so don't waste money on it! It is more important to change it regularly to get rid of any nasties than to use good oil in an old car. I think this stuff cost £12/5litres! Owen

Most engine ware occurs on start up, this will be higher when the car is cold - viscosity of the oil is higher - oil is thicker and difficult to pump through small orifices in the engine. You also need an oil with good stability - fully synthetic. It does cost a bit more and yours may only be a £200 car, but presumably you want to maximize its life - surely it would cost you >> £200 to replace it? I change the oil every yr on our old polo, I want to give it the best change of fault free service. If the cost of oil is really so sensitive you are better off changing the oil less frequently but making sure it's the right spec.

Put some new oil on the new rubber ring before ibserting the filter.

Don’t worry was a 36mm socket. Halfords had one for £9

i would reccomend u put 5w30 oil in the engine

@@bootsowen u live in the uk right? Its not warm there so u should get 5w30 bc it flows better than 10w40 at lower temps because its thinner. But it wont do any harm if u get 10w40

Not being preachy, but I guess I am, I always use engine flush, run your engine for five - ten minutes idle, pop sump plug then when drain pour some of the new oil through and let it drain just to get some more of the old oil out and make sure you drain on level ground, then discard old sump plug replaced with new one there about 2 quid, then refill on level ground not on axel stands, you have to give time for new oil to circulate so check level again after ten minutes......preach over 😉🙂

I normally buy a 5 L bottle and have some left over, I think the Micra in this video took between 3 and 4 Litres.

Just about 3 Liters. Instructions says 2.8L, but I guess a bit extra for the filter and stuffs

Thats the wrong grade of oil for this engine should be 5w-30 Fully Synthetic ...

Why bother to change the oil if you are going to put cheap stuff in - and yes the grade does matter the numerics denote the viscosity of cold and hot oil - I've been warned that the 1.2 petrol engine needs fully synthetic 5w-30. Think it might be hydraulic tappets? Important to change oil regularly and to make sure it's the right spec, agree that brand of oil is less important. Otherwise I like the video.

I checked Quantum Oil's Oil Selector for a 2002 1.2 petrol Polo on ebay and it advises 5w40 (VW505.01). I'd use 5w30 (VW504.00/507.00) if it were my car. Mannol, the brand you're using, produce a 5w30 (VW504.00/507.00) called 7715 OEM for about £22. I believe you're using a QH oil filter? Mann or Hengst would be my choice. The car may be old but engine lubrication is still important.

@@spannerssockets6308 bullshit 505.01 is the VW oil norm for the PD diesel engine. Gasoline is 501.01 or 502.00 or 504.00 Read your owner manual for the car... The norm of the oil is more important then the viscosity. The viscosity depends where you live and islf the climate is more cold or warmer the majority of the time...
