Kind of like the concept of bad guys shouldn’t just try and be good just do good, reformed and be better off undoing their mistakes. Even if they done something they can’t fix they will be there by your side when someone, something decides to come hurt you and for the once bad guy will have a chance of redeeming to show he has a sense of doing good.

I do like these "what if the character went against expectations" re-imaginings. The first ones of this type I ever came across ever was Death and Sgt Angua in the Disk world series. Death still doing his essential job but actually caring a lot about the living as well despite his nature and Angua being a "savage"werewolf who essentially decided to become a force for law and order (or what passes for it) in Ankh Morpork.

I love how the 3rd person he saved was a genuine accident on his part whereas the other 2 could be seen as he noticed what mom what's doing and wasn't OK with it
