I missed the special thanks,I'll have to pay attention to that next playthrough but there are a tonne of references to literature,film,ballet and so forth. Saw someone post a copy of king in yellow and a few people asked how did they get a copy,did they 3d print it etc. lol seeing it at the start of the game caught me off guard as I adored lovecraft and the writers that influenced him and in his circle years ago. The most chilling thing about this is not even the endless SIGNALIS memes about trauma and shit. It's realizing that there was a real person somewhere, sometime, tuning into this. in the dead of the night, receiving instructions only they can comprehend, doing whatever the instructions told them. And we'll never know what exactly it was that they had to do. Imagine the anxiety and a feeling of being extremely uncertain as the first digits drop.

Supposedly there were a lot of these stations during the cold war. They usually confirmed that the station was active, and every once in a great while might broadcast an actual message.
@metalmarten3478
10 ай бұрын
That's a very tasty piece of information, thank you. So, was the row of numbers just a confirmation that the station is active? And up until early 2000's since the cold war, so for 20-30 years? How does that happen? Was it automated and if so, what was it powered by for all these years? Was there a human factor, and if so, why did they keep it active?
@SabiJD
5 ай бұрын
@@metalmarten3478I knew nothing about number stations before this, and I'd like those answers to. Though in the context of Signalis, it's probably better to be left a mystery...
@Metalbringer92
5 ай бұрын
@@SabiJD Number stations that have been disclosed by their governments are few. Generally speaking, and I mean reeeeally generally, they simply broadcast coded messages for spies and intelligence agents. They are difficult to localize because they act on short waves ( 2 -30 MHz) unlike FM radio (88 - 108 MHz). In simple terms, Short waves can travel thousands of km, and the quality won't be as nice as the local FM radio for that reason. The only way of locating a signal with precision is to use radio-location equipment and a lot of luck, for all you know it could be a hidden radio station in the mountains (the "3 notes oddity" radio signal found in the game's menu is a real thing, as many recordings and signals within the game are real recordings from the cold war). So yeah, this is like a "tip of the iceberg" explanation, but it should give you a decent idea.

@Metalbringer92
