$1,000 vs $80 Olympic Barbell Strength Test!
Barbell battle: The cheapest vs. most expensive option
💪 Eleiko Weightlifting Training Bar: garagegymreviews.co/EleikoIWFBar
💪 CAP Barbell ECO 7-Foot Olympic Bar: amzn.to/38M3W4U
The barbell is one of the most important items you’ll buy for your home gym, but does it have to be one of the most expensive? Or is the cheapest barbell just as good?
To find out, we’re buying and testing the cheapest Olympic barbell on Amazon, the CAP Barbell bar ($80), and putting it up against the Eleiko Weightlifting Training Bar ($900).
We’ll answer the question: does a barbell that’s 10 times the cost of an Amazon barbell perform worth the cost, or could you get just as good of a workout at home with the budget option?
Coop, and the rest of the Garage Gym Reviews team, looks to get to the bottom of it.
We’ve set the bar when it comes to fitness equipment reviews, and if you don’t believe us just check out some of our other barbell content.

The big takeaway on this is that your money is probably wasted on a budget bar. 300 lbs. is a pretty reasonable expectation to be lifting regularly for an intermediate. You're going to outgrow that bar pretty quickly.

@@girlsdrinkfeck honestly the fact that you called it flexible should be a good enough indicator that you don't know much about the sport. Bar whip makes a difference in when ur pulling off the ground as more it bends the longer it is on the ground, which is why olympic bars are whippier, however in powerlifting you are trying to make it as much of a brute strength test as you can, stiffer bars will always be preferred for training before a meet.

Is it just me, or is anyone else wondering if the Eleiko would have bent at their stated weight just the same? I doubt dropping 70 pounds off it would have prevented damage. Coop, you shoulda stopped at the rated limit, so you could ask for a refund. Lol.

Probably the way it was attached had an impact too I'm guessing. Using chains results in basically all the stress focused in a single spot as opposed to kinda spread out like normal and because the chains slip down to the part that is thicker it might add some different forces the bar is not rated to withstand. I dunno if any of that made a difference, but I can't imagine Eleiko making inaccurate claims for their products.

Yeah you shouldnt really approach 90% of any weight rating, for anything important. Doing so repeatedly creates stress that can invisibly weaken it and lower the stated weight, for one.
Eleiko: “if you out over 3300lbs on the bar it will bend” Coop: *puts over 3300lbs on bar *Bar bends* 😱😱😱
@DampRaccoon
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, even though it surely wouldn't have been distributed per Eleiko tests/engineering, it was kind of annoying to jump from 1,000 to over capacity. Something in between, then capacity, then slightly over capacity, then significantly over would have been nice. Just a little bit of extra effort could have made this better.
@CarlYota
3 ай бұрын
@@DampRaccoonyeah this was weird. Makes me think something else was up. They had no time, they were scared it would fail at 1500 or something. You would absolutely test 1k then 2 k then 3k. Then overload it. You’re trying to figure out when it will fail, not that it will fail when overloaded. Technically you would use a new bar for every test to avoid metal fatigue. But this isn’t mythbusters. Still sketchy to go from something a person could lift to 3400 lbs.

Those are builders bags, used for transporting tons of sand etc, they are designed to be very durable
I know you said it would be the cheapest "someone would reasonably use" but the shitty knurling, no bushings/bearings, etc make the cheap kindof unlikely to be used by many of your viewers. Would've preferred something in the budget category that would actually be usable on a daily basis. I have a beater bar that was sub-$150 but has real knurling, doesn't flex with minor loads, has bushings, etc. That CAP barbell is somewhere between a toy and a real barbell.
Loving the production and the level of fun you guys put into the video.

I'd definitely want you to test more barbells! Best sale, choice, popular brands, etc.. Great video!

This is some solid content that feels genuine from you. Love it!
I've been using the Olympic bars that came with four 300-pound sets of Olympic weights that I bought on sale at Dick's Sporting Goods. I wanted the weight plates for plate-loaded exercise machines I own. However, I also use them when I do bench presses in my squat rack. My top bench press weight is only 355 pounds, but the Olympic bars handled that weight easily. Most people aren't going to lift extremely heavy weight, so it doesn't make good sense to pay $1,000 for an Olympic bar.
Nice to see a barbell focused video! Well done!
This video might be my favorite video y’all have made. Super cool!
… and yes, love seeing equipment pushed to its MAX!! 💪🏾

3 ton solid round metal bender: The Cap bar was successful. You should ask Eleiko the technical specs of how they rated their bar. I suspect that shoulder width is too narrow. Fun to watch though!
@CarlYota
3 ай бұрын
Companies are going to use whatever is most favorable for them. It would be max width, probably 4foot like cups in a power rack. Or it’s something even dumber like it could be dropped with that weight on it and the impact wouldn’t bend it. You can’t actually load a bar with 3300 lbs anyway unless you’re machining your own plates out of something exotic. Someone said tungsten maybe could get there. Idk. Doesn’t matter. I assume the thing is puffery. The only thing that matters is if it can handle 1k. And if it doesn’t will they warranty it. I’m assuming the answer to both is yes.
One of my favorite videos you have done so far
Awesome video. Could watch these tests all day
Great vid Coop ! I'd suggest the same test between the elite bars, Eleiko VS Kabuki :)
Production values definitely have been improved!!! Good job 👍
Great video. I'm all in favor of more content along these lines. I've always enjoyed the videos where GGR puts equipment to the test. I'd love to see some real tests on True Grits equipment. They have some affordable alternatives (such like the runner and bumpers) that I would totally buy if someone could really break down how durable their stuff is.
“The Rock doesn’t lift weights” hahaha quote of the day.
Thanks guys, next time I go for a 3,370lbs squat for 10 reps I’ll know to expect my Eleiko bar to round.

Hey Coop random question: when you first took the barbells out of the containers and placed them on the floor tiles, I was curious which floor tiles were those? Eleiko?

The production values of these videos as of late have been amazing. Great content. Keep it coming, guys.

Would love to see this test with the best budget bars.
It would be cool to see a weight limit of an adjustable bench(600lbs vs 800lbs or 1000lbs) by stacking weights in a single spot to simulate a downward force of a bench press.
Loved it that was fun to watch
Great entertaining vid! Worth the Eleiko sacrifice.

You should start doing this forklift test with all barbell reviews. Maybe at something like 75-100% bar rating to test if its truly going to hold up.

Started my lifting hobby/career in a weightlifting academy (one of the oldest in my country) and had only Eleiko/Pignatti bars and plates. There's nothing like an Eleiko bar/plates (pignatti was the Italian official brand for weightlifting and was top notch back then).
the shoulder width resting area of the bar + the attachment point of the chains made the bar bend less due to less leverage
It would be good to do this with a Kabuki, Rogue and Titan power bars since it's what most lifters would probably buy.
I would have liked to see a middle ground bar. Something which looks like the Eleiko with knurling and chrome finish, but is as cheap as possible, somewhere in the 150-200 bucks range. I think that would be good enough for most people.
I laughed at the meeting set up. Someone has been watching the office
I have one of those cap barbells that came with 300lbs of free weight. I was always worried that it would snap or shatter and pieces of metal would stab me once I started getting to the max capacity. Good to see that doesn't happen, even with a cheap bar.
