Using impact wrench is OK. Even for installation, because over tightening can be controlled. That is not the problem. What the guys have not showed in the video is tightening of the nut. It is very important, because the tightening goes in opposite direction of the engine rotating, which should be avoided as per the HD service manual. Use the clutch hub holder to avoid that. I am not sure how in this case the guys tightened the nut up to 220Nm as per HD service manual recommendation. Just to compare how big is this force - my 16inches tire on the car requires tight force of 120Nm on the nut during installation of the tire.

Rewatch the video. He is facing the bike. Right tightly lefty loosy. We use the torque wrench to secure the nut.

Tightening the nut would rotate the motor the correct way. From crank side it would rotate anti clockwise as needed. The danger would be when trying to loosen the nut, if the motor turns over while trying to loosen the nut it would rotate the incorrect way

The AIM plate involves alittle more detail...springs and shims(washers) Not hard to do..Just follow the instructions and you will be ok. I still have mine as a back up..lol

Does the main nut need to be torqued??

Thanks for the video my 03 vrod clutch is starting to slip (or atleast I think thats the problem) gonna probly get it checked out to make sure and replace it myself

Test it yourself or with a friend. Ride bike at 55mph 4th and 5th gear. Go wot and watch the rpms vs speedo, if rpms climb fast and mph is slower then usual, possibly a bad clutch. Either way I would change it out and give old clutch to drag racer.

Yea so I got the slipper clutch started the install with no problems till I put the new clutch in the last two fins wont go in its slides on and then stops any advice?

Hi, I want to do the same thing on my V Rod night rod special '07. Is this the same procedure or does my bike has something different going on? last but not least, I don't have a impact gun. Can I brake the nut loose with a wrench and a clutch holder tool? and do I need special tools to line up the clutch plates? thanks a lot!

If tabs won't align up, just tap the tab to aling it. You will not hurt anything. Slipper has 4 bolts holding the plates. You can loosen them up if need be. The torque spec is on here somewhere. It is not in the manuals.

What size nut is it?

It comes as 1 piece. Slide hub out, align flanges, loosen bolts if need be and slide in the new one torque down the 4 bolts.

How does a slipper clutch work, and what is the advantage of it?

Helps when downshifting at higher rpm. Your rear end won't get loose.

When it goes bad. Possible test. Ride at 55mph, get on the gas watch to see if rpms go up and bike climbs real slow in mph. Most likely it is time .Slipping g clutch.

I know it's a bit late, but I couldn't find this info anywhere. For anyone else looking, it's a 29mm, deep well, thin wall socket. I used a half inch drive torque wrench to 70 to 80 foot pounds.

I need your help my 2009 v rod muscle is chattering on hard acceleration could it be my clutch too? plz help me thanks

Micheal Treeman launching hard. if you feather the clutch yes it will chatter. a flow control valve can help. once clutch lever is released it is fully engaged. Do not feather the lever.

thank you for the quick reply no I'm not feathering the clutch it chatters when I get on it in all gears but smooths out when I let off the troodle at high and low speeds it feels like it's something in the gear box/tranny

rscrod by the way I used an Impact gun to remove the front pully because I did add a 300mm wheel to my v rod muscle do think the impact gun did some damge To the clutch plates or something ? any help is truly appreciated

Micheal Treeman i would pull the cover and check the clutch pack. check plates for burning. just do not squeeze the clutch lever with the actuator not bolted on.

You need to look at the manual. or. It is simple to watch how you take them out to put the new ones in. They just alternate pad to plate. Big one is the first one. It is bowed a tad. Next time I would buy the slipper clutch assembly. That is what's shown in video. Hope this helps.

@@CRUZROYHelicopters they can be a pain the rear mufflers slide off. There is a clamp if it has the figure 8, that's what it looks like . or 1 clamp for ea h one. Loosen them up. Take rubber mallet and tap them off. Wiggle them up an down to break loose the carbon.

I wouldn't of used the impact. I wouldn't want all the impact vibration through my motor.
