I just changed out the fuel pump on my 2008 Highlander 5 seater with the help of your video. I had the same problem as you did with the locking ring turning the whole assembly. The removal tool I have is similar to the one you used and I was able to get the ring off by using an impact wrench with the tool and just bumping it a little at a time until the ring was loose. Just thought I would share that tip with everyone. Thanks for the video.

Thanks guys for an awesome video. I used it to do my 2009 5 seat kluger. Slightly easier to do than the 7 seat model. The rear seat weighs a tonne. I was lucky enough that I could remove and re use my retaining ring you can remove them with a screw driver and a few light taps with a rubber mallet and alot of patience and luck. Would of like to see more of you doing the dissasembly and reassembly of the fuel pump and filter itself. Thanks guys it was a great help however I would not recommend undertaking this job for the novice

So I noticed that the ring has little stoppers on it that hit the triangle so that up I have to push them in every so turns in order to keep turning it, if you don’t push them in when they hit the triangles on the pump housing then it will never unscrew. Another trick I had is to unscrew it like an electrical nut, hammer and flathead to the edges to turn it

I can't find which fuel filter my Kluger has. They say Z914 or Z940 with jet pump connector. How can you tell if your Kluger has a jet pump connector?

No codes were present, just maintenance.

I believe the Highlander in the US is identical. Has anyone actually had a fuel pump failure on a Gen2? I ask because multiple sources have told me the failure rate is basically zero and not to worry about it. I have 225k miles (360KM). My parts guy told me that he's never sold a fuel pump on this model. Do you guys agree?

G'day Tom, I would agree, we have not yet seen a fuel pump failure on this model (one example has over 600,000km on the clock and still going strong.) This was just a fuel filter replacement, it is part of the service schedule and the customer asked for it to be it changed.

Hi Henry, I'm not sure if it is the same process, we haven't had a hybrid in with that many km's on it yet.

Hi, I did not release the fuel pressure tho i was prepared for fuel to spray out. Always were correct PPE when working on fuel systems. This is one of the reasons I recommend that this job is done by a professional.

It won't be the same as they are different bodies. I don't know the early Highlander that well.

My dealer said it never needs to be changed. What's the part number for this filter?

Hi Nick, Toyota’s Australia service schedule states that the fuel filter should be changed every 80,000KM or 48 months. The fuel filter part number is 7702448040 and the locking ring part number is 7714448020, I would recommend double-checking these part numbers for your application before ordering.

Hi Frank, It must be quicker/cheaper to assemble on the production line. Many other makes and models have the same set up, not just Toyota.

Sounds reasonable. Looks like you have a beautiful garage, if I had work I would definitely stop by but my car doesn't drive well over the ocean, Lol. I'm from Boston, MA a bit far from you guys. Would love to visit Australia I hear it's beautiful, sad to hear about their gun confiscation laws. It is sad here in the US how people blame the NRA and guns as the problem when it is a people problem. when someone drives a car or truck into crowds of people and kills dozens, or when drunk drivers kill thousands a year, they don't blame the car or truck. The family structure has gone in the toilet. People need to show love for one another and respect the sanctity of life.

How much does this cost for 5 and 7 seat kluger including parts? Was original filter bad? I done 180000kms on original and dont have any issues yet.

Hi, The cost for a 7 seat model using genuine Toyota parts would be around $860. 5 seat model would be slightly cheaper and if you use aftermarket parts it would be cheaper again.

Hello, the 7 seat will cost about $485 Labor only, the 5 seat will cost about $385 Labor only.
