063 Michael's Tiller Fail and Jo's Near Miss. The Market Harborough Arm of the Grand Union Canal.

After an exhaustingly long cruise to Market Harborough, this turns in to quite a talky vlog. I guess we had lots to say after such a long day.
We didn't get off to the best start as Michael pushed off without attaching the tiller. Luckily there were no other boats about and there was no wind so the narrowboat just bobbed about a bit until he got it attached. No harm done.
Five locks quickly ascended with out incident and then through the Saddington Tunnel. A long stop just below the Foxton flight, which we didn't manage to document. And then it was off down the Market Harborough where we bump into a familiar face.
its a lovely long push to get to to the moorings at the end of the arm where Jo has a near miss with the side of the canal whilst coming through a bridge.
All in all a lovely days cruise.
Thanks for watching.
Jo and Michael

    Foxton locks aren't as daunting as they may seem, the lock keepers who run them have always been really helpful each time the first time I went up them I was told 'red before white and you'll be alright, white before red and you'll wish you were dead' mainly cause you've just flooded the pound. So I can't wait to see you guys try them later on in your journeys :)

    Hope you both get a good nights sleep. It looks like you need it. At least you don't have to deal with the guy next door re-shingling his roof or the county re-paving your street or the holier than thou come knocking at your door all when your trying to sleep. I have been working the night shift for over a decade and have grown a custom to no sleep and complaining about it. As usual, great video and thank you for the entertainment.

    Your outtakes make more sense than some regular KZread videos. Fellows I will remind you to complete the Minimal List Experience properly, you must follow the proper steps. You must find an extraordinary partner. One must see they can love and tolerate oneself under virtually all conditions. Only then should one look for a boat, off grid homestead, or other unique living arrangement. God bless all minimalitas, viewers, commenters, and posters, especially JMG, my favorite non-singing Trio. ( JM may sing, G not so much. ) FYI No I have not ready Joanne's book, yet. I have nothing to read a Kindle book on yet. I shall have an Android tablet, Very Soon Now, my brother promises. Then Joanne is the first on my list of authors to read, or rather savor. ( One could do worse than buy a tablet, to read her Book ) The rest will likely be computer stuff, not nearly as lively or human.

    Do you have a spare tiller pin, and windlass, for when the inevitable happens, and one or both take a dive - like George? The question just reflects me if I was narrow boating - the worst always happens. Fun series.

    George, I think you may be pushing the humans too hard. There seems to be a lot of forgetting/missing things going on. I notice that you took a swim in the canal a vid or two ago. Why not give them a refreshing dunk to cheer them up? I have the same black hat that the taller human has. I find that soaking it in (non canal) water and wearing it does a great job of cooling. Beautiful vid.

    Did you two have your tea yet? In my case it's coffee and If I don't have coffee I am a grumpy man in the morning. I imagine the same thing if you don't have your tea. I had a guest for just over 3 months and if he didn't have his tea good Lord he was anything but cordial in the morning. The missing tiller? It's one of those items you simply don't do before engine start as before every start you must check all the fluids before engine start. Now it might seem unnecessary to someone new to boating but I'd rather know I'm ok for engine start instead of finding out the hard way by having an engine failure. It costs over $10 to $20 thousand dollars to rebuild the engine due to failure to check the oil or coolant or that the fan belts are in place and snug. It is quite common on first start of the day for the alternator belts to squeal until the load comes off after a minute or two. I hearby would like to put a bounty on the crows as they do make a racket.🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 Thanks for posting this video. Cheers!

  • @MinimalList

    @MinimalList

    6 жыл бұрын

    Neither of us are drinkers of either coffee or tea, which might explain some of our issues. I do check the fluids and belts quite often (not every engine start, as we've got replacement belts, and both the coolant and oil would necessarily have to go somewhere noticeable in our bilge should they suddenly decide to escape), but I'll admit I somehow forget the tiller too bloody often! M

    Talking of snakes, I saw on hear some where that Alan Lytton has become CEO of the CRT. He is changing the name of that too. Much as he did at his time at Royal Mail. Heads up! He is a snake in the grass that cannot be trusted at all. Hope he does not ruin our cannal network, like he did Royal mail, before moving on to his next serial directorship. Keep up the good work on your vlogs love watching them.

    Out of curiosity, as I'd never heard of the man before a few minutes ago, what exactly did he do at the Royal Mail? He seems to have been the one that stopped it from being rebranded as Consignia, whatever the heck that means, and reverted that rebrand. Also I can't find anything making him CEO, removing Richard Parry, or otherwise shifting the executive structure, he's the chairman, in the case of the Trust becoming CEO would be something of a downgrade.
