The Free State Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA), joined hands with national government departments, the Central University of Technology (CUT), Vaal Central Water, and Rand Water to mark World Environment Day on Wednesday.
The event aimed to raise awareness and inspire action to safeguard our planet and preserve our environment.
This year's theme, "land restoration, desertification and drought resilience," echoed the call for action with the slogan "#GenerationRestoration."
The focus was on managing river health, promoting recycling, and limiting waste ending up in landfills.
Community involvement is crucial in tackling issues like air pollution, understanding its impacts on human well-being and biodiversity.
The event also featured an environmental career expo, offering valuable insights and opportunities in the environmental management sector to school learners and stakeholders.
