My name is Sam and together with my girlfriend Lyanne, I am on a quest to restore the beauty of this old Italian villa from 1895. Join us as we have to let go of our Dutch habits to fit in in our Italian surroundings, were the word 'plan' gets redefined and our tastebuds are awakened.
The goal of this project is to show that with limited financial means and a lot of optimism we can resurrect the beauty of this abandoned villa in a green and sustainable way. But most of all learn from everything that we encounter and enjoy it whilst we're at it.

Those heating engineers were lunatics 🤣🤣 Great work, and lots of patience by both of you - well done
Imagine the plumber one century ago getting his shiny new pipe bending machine and brag about it to all his colleges.
You have a vision that we don’t see or understand. Just a friendly suggestion: You could make such great progress by investing in an electric cutter of some kind and chop all the old pipes flush to the wall, plaster over them and then notching “V”s and drilling holes in wall to put the plumbing where you want it to go. Great dedication and perseverance.

I agree. You need to compromise. Cut the old pipes and drill new holes. You will save so much time and effort, not to mention frustration.

I've never had a use for a Multitool but seeing these scenarios has me wanting one just in case! 😂 Maybe a jackhammer too!🤔
Maybe you should make a sculpture with all the S bend pipes to remind you of the effort it took getting them out 😂😂 great size bedroom love the tiles. Wonder if the sand that is coming down from the ceiling is a form of insulation I watch the video on French Chateau and they used sand and soil to insulate between floors 🤔🤔 seems weird just a thought.Ann 🏴
Noooo...the pipe again 😅 Italian ingenuity. Love my people ❤😊

This is plumbing masterclass. Built for eternaty not for analyzing. 😊
I also struggle with bent and concreted pipes in my house. They thought that heating pipes never need to be replaced, bend them and cincreted them in walls and floors. It is like watching myself.
You differently have your work cut out for you (in the process of fixing, replacing, repairing, upgrading) in remodeling your beautiful home (villa). I am extremely enjoying (and even envious) of your adventure.
Hopefully its mostly surface gravel and pointing that falls off, in time you can re point the dome ceiling, patience always gets there in the end ,n we holding thumbs for you
Hurrah, just in time Sam, couldn't wait any longer, 🙂
Just something for you to think about--when ever we had to move our piano--we were advised to let it sit and aclimate --for 3-6 months before we had it tuned.

I was thinking about this when I watched the delivery video, but I wasn’t certain enough to comment. 🙏☺️
Great video always so interesting 👍 👌 ❤❤
It's so meditating to see you work 😅 Will you take in volunteers some day? I do prefer power tools but I'm willing to adapt to your style of work.

that's great to hear! yeah maybe someday, haha glad to hear. Please feel free to send me an email so I have an overview of who wants to lend a hand! thanks for the offer!
Salam dari indonesia❤❤❤ Senang melihat video ini
You need an oscillating multi tool with a variety of blades. You’d be surprised how versatile they are for very tight spaces like that pipe…
How do you keep up with it all? I meant it seems to be a maze of random pipes. I applaud you & dad for your vision & tenacity!
Just a thought could you use your drain camera through some of the pipe holes? Could they show you whats there.
Buy a cordless chisel, save hours of using that little claw hammer. Be aggressive, those walls can take it easily, good luck.
That last pipe was going STRAIGHT down!!!
💪🏼👏😁🏆✨👍🤘🤙BRAVO!!!! Dedication Dedication Dedication 🍾🥂🏆🌟✨
I've often claimed that my house had to be built by committee. No one person could be responsible for that many stupid decisions and irrational designs. Either that or a group of friends got together to build a house after a really long week of drinking!

Ours was built in the 70's and there is evidence they were tripping. The wiring in our attic is crazy! Wiring is easier to fix than 90° angled plumbing. 😂
Sam maybe it's better to start with a pointed chisel, around the pipe you want to remove 🙂 I might be wrong, I never actually encountered such a tough cement. I
It sure seems like the plumber thought straight was boring, what a nightmare.👍

What an art work 😂
Get rid of the cupboard room and make the en suite bathroom bigger
Do you have a wet vacuum? It would vacuum out the sand mixture around the pipe....and clean up the floor too.
Have you considered a small compressor so you can use compressed air chisel etc
I simply cannot wait for you to get a lovely wood burning fire my friend, I’m sure I’m not alone in this thought….as per usual another great video !

haha me too! thanks!!
So sad each bath, wasn't above each other and the kitchen, so all could be connected easily, or back to back, between rooms
👍
Hi Sam, Great video as always, you and your dad have the patience of a saint. I may be totally wrong, but I’ve seen on another renovation channel, where they had a vaulted ceiling, the sand/gravel is put on top to prevent the vault from popping open. I’m no engineer but something to bare in mind😊 Well done, should be very proud 😊

yeah no definitely, so it's important to keep it in. thanks!
This is boring to me. But I know it has to be done. I enjoyed the video of you going after the piana. Scenery was beautiful.
The sound of the sand falling is weirding me out. Be careful maybe you brace the arches .
Ironic that indoor plumbing was invented in Italy, no?
You should use a larger hammer
Actually, it was funnier to search the sewage pipes; at least you were able to use the endoscopic camera!

Whoever plumbed that villa was not a plumber by my standards
Mamma mia... 〰
Can you unblock the pipe and insert a camera? Hard work!
Oh dear in the first scenes, where you are chipping away around the pipe high on the wall, you really need to replace the light claw hammer with a 2kg block hammer to make an impression on the concrete.

I get the whole idea of only using hand tools etc., but believe me, if those old Italians had power tools, they would have used them.

Buy a cordless chisel , save hours of using wrong claw hammer which is far too light. Be aggresive the walls can take it. Good luck
Prova con una fresa a tazza per cemento , così fai un foro circolare senza tirar giù il pavimento.
What about re piping from the outside in?
Bigger hamer
Are those asbestos pipes, if so what about exposure to your skin?
Você tem que guardar estes canos e expo-los em alguma parede!!😂😂😂😂😂
ei ei ei , liebe kinder wir machen heute piele piele!!!!!
It was definitely done by amateurs I imagine you are sick of the sight of pipes 😬
you need a rotary hammer drill. You are working yourself half to death 🥴🥴🥴
I can't begin to understand all the S-bend pipes at all, I think the builders fancied themselves artists or something.
Is there some reason these pipes have to be completely removed? I don't understand why you don't just cut them below the surface and mortar over the holes? Not criticizing or judging. Just curious why it is worth all this labor and the damage to the floors and walls? Need to learn before we move over later this summer.

first off, congrats with your new place! where are you going? second, we have to remove them since they've been sitting there for I don't know how long, so rust and everything has gotten into them. basically, I don't trust it. plus, now I get to design a new system that I trust and fits my needs. we need openings to get the new system up though so that;s why we're removing them.

@@Villa_Oliva Thanks for the response! We haven't bought anything yet. We think we will end up in Abruzzo. My wife is in love with Sulmona, but also we both kind of had idea of a smaller village in Abruzzo or Puglia. We have three houses we really love. One is very similar to yours in my opinion. Same era and style at least. The place looks amazing, but I think it's too big for just two of us! Tough decisions. We're planning on renting a place from a friend in Sulmona for a couple months if we don't have a place of our own. I am a very DIY spirited guy. Appreciate the response. I saw you and your dad feeding the new lines through the old holes. Makes more sense now. I was mainly wondering if the pipes were bad for the walls in some way. Like possibly rust, asbestos, lead or some other reason I wasn't aware of in Italy. There are a lot of differences I see in videos from homes in America that I am used to. I am sure there are differences in Italy vs the Netherlands you are used to. I look forward for the challenge. Really enjoying watching you all and trying to learn a few things.
I like your videos .. but the trues you are wasting time by not using proper tools .. get some maschines to safe yout time .. something cheaper like from Parkside or Einhell.. Michael
The whole episode about one hole? Seriously?!

When someone is working is difficult conditions and trying to film and edit content also I admire what they are trying to do with no outside contractors. Some footage will be better than others. I look forward to seeing the payoff after this difficult phase.
Why no mask? Maybe a respirator is not necessary for everything but you are breathing stone dust and concrete. Please take the time to protect yourself. There is a lung problem caused by breathing such things. I always enjoy your videos. Be careful.
