Great quick review, thank you! I just bought one of these, a slightly different model but similar touchscreen and software. It's amazing that a programmable RF source is available with that range so inexpensively. For HF/VHF range I think I might invest in something nicer, but this lets me play in UHF+ for such a small cost. To me, this is useful for testing antennas, amplifiers, receivers, filters, simple spectrum analyzers, etc. A low cost tool in the GHz range.

Thanks Tom, yes agree very little powerfull thing :) .. i also have a review with same board but with a MAX chip on it, that one starts at 23 MHz .. and upto 6 GHz ..you pay a bit more for that one..but then it covers also CB .. Tony

Tony, I wonder if it is possible to take out the 25Mhz crystal and always provide an external RF source. I have a 10Mhz. clock, which has a very pure output (GPS Sync), and I'd like to use that. My question is: I read the specs on the ADF4351 and it is not clear if the signal should be square wave or could be a sine wave. Any thoughts ? I might buy another unit and do a test but I'd like to hear your input first and also hear from other people.

Hello Maximvs You are not the first to ask and it is indeed very interesting, i will do a video about it in the next weeks. I have the schematic, it is in the description, there you can see it is easely possible, but not sure it will also run on 10MHz.. will also try that. if it does not, i will use my 10M-6PLL to make 25 MHz from my 10MHz GPSDO. If it needs square or sine.. i think square, it goes directly into the IC, so TTL i would think..usualy it detects a rise edge... both have that.. doing the ext. ref. modification on the FY6900 .. both worked... stay tuned :)

@@TonyAlbus Another question I have is that if I input a sine wave (that is pure), maybe those frequency spurs will go away. I doubt it but I am still curious. On another note, the specs for the ADF4351 say that the Ref-In signal has a minimum of 10Mhz. So, 10Mhz should be fine. Also, the ADF4351 has both a CLK and Ref-In pins. The datasheet shows the Ref-In going directly to an Inverter gate.

Got a question. I have the ADF4351 with screen board and I can not get it to talk with my PC. It recognizes the CH340 chip but when I pull up the software to load on frequency hopping, it says USB device not connected

Hi Chris, with this type of problem i would, 1 connect the USB direct the the PC, no usb hubs. 2. make sure the USB has enough power, if you use a laptop connect the power adapter and check energy saving setting. 3 makesure that you have selected the correct virtual comport in the application. in you device manager you can check what port it created.
nice video. How can I set the time of sweeping function to a specific value. I see that from the video that the smaller steps the slower sweeping function and the opposite is true, but without known the time it will take! How can I set that time?

Hello Bassam, You are correct, smaller steps take longer.. time you can NOT set., you can set Start Freq. Stop Freq. and stepsize.
Thanks for a great video, Tony. Since you made it, have you experimented with the MCLK port? Do you know if this is an input for an external reference? In my ideal use case, I'd clock this thing from my home built 10MHz GPSDO to test a 2.7GHz frequency counter I'm currently building.

Hello Luc, one of my viewers sent me a scematic.. it seems, the MCLK is now an output, with its 25MHz refclock.. but when you remove R5, 0 Ohms.. you cab use it as an input... but you need an 25 MHz ref... my Video #076 and #101 i think... i have a PLL that can use the 10MHz as a ref.. and you can easaly output that 25MHZ to this one... thats the idea.. but i have not tried yet..could be an idea for a next video... let me know i you want the schematic for download.. Having seen that some other ADF4351 modules on AliExpress (plain boards without the LCD) have a 0 ohm resistor, I had wondered if this module would have one too. Looking at the datasheet and a couple of other references, it looks like the chip itself can be clocked at frequencies other than 25MHz. (I don't know if this would lower its max output freq.). If this is true, then the main thing preventing it running from 10MHz directly would be limitations in the software. At 3:38 (kzread.info/dash/bejne/hYmalLZyoLaqY7w.html) you show the settings screen. It looks like the Ref Clock value might be able to be adjusted. If that value can indeed be updated to 10MHz then we might be in luck! Any chance you could check to see if this value can be edited in the interface?

Hi, if i remember correct, the speed can not be adjusted, but the steps can, smaller steps will make is slower.

Hi, yes i think you need use several linear amps to cover the whole range. but keep in mind, it is unmodulated.

I have an o-scope and digi multi. Could I use this to align my vintage FM stereo receiver?

Maybe Dave, it can send a signal on the radio-frequencies if you could hook your scope to mf/if and adjust to max amplitude, maybe...
Setting a wider sweep the sweeping stops a lot earlier than the stop. Would be nice if it worked.

This device does not have modulation, not AM, not FM. maybe have a look at video #226 RF Ganerator.. it does FM

@@andreitalapov9199 I had hoped to find something here, but no info on the internet. So I asked the seller for the software the screenshots are showing PLZ-PLL-435X. It took me a week to get it. They sent me evering except this program (from chinese screenshots, to links to protected pages, even the password, but without the needed username, and many other useless things). Finally I succeeded to convince them to send as zip. The software itself is not very helpful, you can adjust the same items from PC as with the device. But with a serial sniffer I could listen to the traffic, and easily find out the bytes format. As programmer I would have added a kind of backdoor, e.g. to set the ADF4351 registers directly. Possibly there is something like that, but its difficult to find out. May be by code guessing (start with 0xAD, end with checksum), or read out the PIC assembly code (unless protected). Anyway, its a lengthy task ...

Hi Ruslan, yes getting the software was a pain, i found it somewhere on the web, and one was given to my by a viewer of my channel, both are untested by me, but i will put the download links in the comments of this video.

Thank you for your greetings, same from The Netherlands, at the moment i do not have a proper Spectrum analyzer to see good calibrated harmonics. my Anritsu is so old its more a spectrum monitor :) but on the Anritsu i did not see, i will try this on the USB-Spectrum analyzer later, keep an eye on my channel, i will put it in a Q&A video.

Вчера проверил этот генератор на ADF4351, был приятно удивлен что он излучает на антенну 34см на 433 MHz в эфир. Не понравилось, что мощность на выходе не откалиброванна и непонятно сколько db. Вход mclk это для модуляции или тактирования внешним генератором. Прошу прощения плохо знаю английский
