    @L  P Projects I'm in the middle of restoring an Ixion. Inside the adjuster knob there's a brass "brakepad" that slows down the flywheel, causing the drill to advance. I'll happily send you some pics and dimensions.

    VERY nice tool! I use a brace drill with auger bits for common, but I always wanted a table drill like this. And again - it works without any electricity. Can be used anywhere! That is one of why I love old tools. They need only care to work for decades. The best fathers' gift to son, I think. And when generation change, kids of his kids still use it, recalling dad and grandad worked it before, thankful and joy. Great pleasure, Mr. Stavros Gakos.

    If you unscrew and remove the chuck, you will find that the inside of the spindle is bored for a number 1 Morse taper. The slots in the spindle above the chuck are for the ejector drift to remove the drill bit.

    Hey Stavros, i own the original ixion. on this the very top of the drill spindle has a hole to fix a spring and washer with a bent pin. this provides an end stop and stops the spindle from free falling. To axes this you have to tap off the flywheel and unscrew that knurled top cap

    In addition to the Yankee already mentioned I believe Millers Falls also made a number of similar drills. Given the era they're from I bet there are a great many other brands you could look for, especially in the US which is large enough to have loads and loads of competing firms back in the heyday of this sort of tool.

    Thank you Stavros. What accent? I have lived all over the United States and have heard a thousand variations on the language from people who supposedly only know English. Again thank you for showing us the drill presses. I use a Yankee drill press that is now about 105 years old. Similar in function with two speeds but with a slide switch between a pair of bevel gears. The top or bottom gear determines the crank speed. No flywheel and no slip clutch. It has an eccentric sprag clutch for the self feeding gear. It is slow but decently accurate. It also is set up with a clamp on base to clamp to a cross brace in a wall or the edge of the bench. This makes it a little difficult to use at time as my bench too is to thick to accept it. I hope all is well with you and have missed your videos. Greetings from the high plains of Texas.

    Super maszyna, jedyne czego mi w niej brakuje to ogranicznik głębokości.

  • @tungsten_carbide

    @tungsten_carbide

    If I might comment on this James, why for the love of all that's holy would you want a bullnose as a second plane??? A no. 3 or 4, a shoulder plane or a jack would each be far more useful in their respective ways. Bullnose planes are considered very much an also-ran by many, and you'll find that a lot of experienced users (on the UK Workshop forums for example) who own either the Stanley or the Record copy and they say they literally never use them.

    Mam taką samą wiertarkę i u mnie nie ma problemu ze spadającym wrzecionem. Po prostu najprawdopodobniej brakuje u Ciebie sprężyny i jakiejś zawleczki przy górnym kole zamachowym. Ostatnio robiłem renowację takiej maszyny, ale z jakiegoś powodu przy maksymalnym wysunięciu mam bicie na wrzecionie i nie wiem, dlaczego tak jest. W razie pytań, jak miałoby wyglądać zabezpieczenie przed spadaniem wrzeciona, daj znać.

    Felipe, eu fiz um comentário relativamente longo, com links inclusive. Mas não consigo mais encontrar kkkkkk. Não sei se chegou a receber, mas lá eu falei da existência de um um anel com um contra pino e uma mola na ponta superior do eixo. É o que o impede de cair.

    It is a kind of clutch. Greetings from the high plains of Texas. My old Yankee drill press that is very similar doesn’t have the variable clutch but has an eccentric sprag clutch instead. It would be nice for it to be variable but the Yankee in other ways more refined as the high and low speed is a just a slide switch. Not perfect but good enough. Self feeding nonetheless.

    Nabyłem taką wiertarkę. U mnie wrzeciono nie wypada. Mam nednak poblem z uchwytem. Wydaje się, że brakuje jakiejś części i zamocowanie wiertła to istny koszmar :-(. Szczęki uchwytu luzują się, lecz nie chowają kiedy luzuję wiertło. Po wyciągnięciu, szczęki opadają w uchwycie i nie sposób włożyć wiertło. Mógłby Pan wyjaśnić jak działa ten uchwyt?
