I so agree with you! I would give anything to have that lovely man back as our president. (And it makes me sad to see how he sort of restrains himself in this video. Like everyone else in the room, he clearly would like to be grooving a bit to this music. But can you imagine the hateful comments if he did?) We miss you, Mr. President.

I was born in Australia in the 70s to mixed race parents my Dad Basque my Mum Irish Scottish. I grew up watching Sesame St and asked my Mum why there are no black people where i lived, I was not aware of the white Australia policy. I watch this now and am amazed still how divided the USA is and how unlikely it could ever be united all to the benefit of the individuals that truly own the world. Divide and Concore. Having said that I have loved this track from the moment I first heard Aretha sing it at the time I was in my 20s I didnt know what funk was when I was a kid but i did when I heard this.

That movie is what brought me here. I was trying to find Cheryl Pepsii Riley's version. That's who's actually singing in the movie, not Taraji. Jill of course sang duh hell outta the song, but I like Cheryl's even better!

I adore Jill Scott's version @White House. I saw it on TV. .Mind-blowing. I saw it on TV. However in real life I saw Aretha and her sister do this song live at the Ambassador Hotel. in a ballroom w circular tables covered in white tablecloths Several African American couples brought along awesome leather cases that sat upon their tables & were mini bars that folded out that held bottles of various booze, glasses, stir sticks tc. All they ordered from waiters was ice. When the Franklin sisters sang "What is is, what it is, what it is" & Aretha sang the "Whooo-ooo" parts" I swear it felt like a fire engine drove by w full siren. Glasses shattered. I adore Jill Scott' version but there was nothing & never will be another Aretha Franklin. Amen y'all
