I'm watching this four hour Flint City Council meeting while working on my kitchen and family room. It's unmistakably clear-- council members are not listening to either the City Attorney or Mays. And on serious issues where Mays is absolutely correct. Mays was trying to expedite payments for damages to households from a recent sewage pump failure. Many people had sewage in their basement. Mays carefully questioned the City Attorney to ferret out that if claimed damages are greater than $2500 for a household, then it needs full city council approval. Mays wanted to grant advance funds to expedite the approval process. People didn't listen even though both the City Attorney and Mays made it crystal clear that this would help get funds to people in need with damages exceeding $2500 more quickly. They just don't listen. And they vote against it simply because Mays favors it-- without regard for the impact on real Flint residents. And they mock him for attention he gets on TicToc and KZread as if he's the one posting the videos. They fail to realize that what people who watch videos see is not Mays clowning for the social media attention, but rather the way he bravely confronts that ignorance over and over again.

@@Hanzyscure they despise him for his social media fame. While the clips of him going off are entertaining, it has so many people interested in what leads to the outbursts. It’s clear to see if you’ve watched any of the full meetings. The main reason they want to get rid of mays is while he may rant and insult, he’s very sharp and sniffs out BS. Murphy ran several times prior to being elected and is simply determined to oppose Mays because he’s a senior councilman and wants him out. The strategy lately is simple, get 2 warnings on mays, remove him, and try to run over Winfrey carter.

I'm glad Mrs. Jerri Winfrey-Carter got them together! You know it's real if SHE spoke up. She is typically very sweet and calm.

The seating arrangement appears allow the dr and others to irritate Eric. The Council seems to be on a mission to oust him.

I believe they’re in order by ward number from left to right.

The only thing that gets me sometimes is when the council feels the need to "check" the public. I don't like that. The residents should be able to say whatever they want unless it is a direct personal attack.

At 52:00 I missed it at first, but did anyone else catch that Councilman Murphy, with all his integrity and "he doesn't just vote any kind of way just because the mayor or anyone else says it", changed his vote from "no" to " yes" after Councilwoman Worthing said she was voting " yes". He said it at about 45:00 initially and then said at about 48:00 he was doing it if that's what the mayor wants to do. 😂

My OPINION (so don't @ me). I'm not from Flint . I'm from a city with a different class of people and a concil who has far too much money and responsibility to be going on random tangents arguing over who did something to them over a year ago. Anywho.... I don't understand how Mays keeps getting elected. He is very much a "cry over spilled milk" type. And as a leader, I know that part of leadership is humility. If he can't own his part in his poor reputation amongst his colleagues, his constituents will continue to be picked last. The kicker is it seems like many of his constituents are as brash and uncouth as he is (ie. yelling in the audience, name calling, memes making fun of other councilpeople on social media, etc.). The funniest (saddest) part is that his constituents don't seem to have enough life experience, common sense, or business sense to understand that unless they and.Mays simmer down, they will have an uphill battle becoming a formidable enough presence for anyone else to take them seriously. Unfortunately,.there is a certain segment of the collective Black community that thinks being loud, brash, and unruly = effectiveness but it's clear it doesn't and it has never been that way. If it did, Mays' ward wouldn't consistently be left behind (by his own words). 🤷🏾‍♀️
