04 - Solve Equations & Inequalities with Fractional Coefficients

View more at www.MathTutorDVD.com.
In this lesson, you will learn how to solve equations and inequalities that have fractional coefficients. A fractional coefficient means that the number before the variable in an equation is a fraction.
Fractional coefficients can make problems more complex to solve because when moving terms around in the equation you must add and subtract fractions.
You will learn how to do this by solving example problems, getting a common denominator for any fraction coefficients that need to be added.

For the first problem, you could FIRST change all the fractions to common denominator 18, thus eliminating all fractions in one fell swoop, by multiplying both sides by 18.

This is great, now how do you cancel denominators when the fractions also have exponents? Do you also multiply the exponents along with the fraction or just the coefficients?

Sorry, sometimes I get overwhelmed with emails and youtube comments. I really do want to do a proper Geometry course. I have a Geometry Tutor now but I don't cover all of the theorems and applications. I will do a real geometry course in the future with all theorems, etc, but it is challenging because there are hundreds of theorems to cover and then solve problems to use them. So the answer is yes! But I don't know yet when I can get to it. Thank you!

A simple observation :) when you multiple the right hand side of an equation the presentation might be confused with an exponent... small number on the top right hand side, I tend to write (n) then there's no confusion I'm multiplying by "n"
