I've never done it like that before. I tape the entire perimeter and remove tape carefully with alcohol and a QTip. Slowly. Then wash the base and hair with a gentle water based shampoo. Because I am alergic to alcohol. Ergo I can't use your method. Then use a canvas head to comb through the unit. Invert the unit to comb edges where hair sticks out from the base. Using two stick pins to keep it in place. Place a clean dry wash towel on the now unside down unit. Give it an hour or two to dry. I am not in any rush. When dry the hair conveniently dried away from the base. Making it easy peasy to tape again. Then when ready after my next shower having removed an alternate system off my head. I towel dry my scalp and place the now already taped clean system where it belongs on my head. It is of course dry, so once on my head I rehydrate with plain ole water. Comb it straight down. Put in an argon oil UV protectant as my leave-in. Nothing else. I prefer less product when possible. Blow dry to my preferred style. Maybe put a hint of combable hair spray. And it is ready for my basic shower the next day. I know this sounds involved but I haven't ripped a base in 8 years. My biggest limitation is 4 - 6 months down the road when my hair starts losing its knots after normal use. Then I reach out to MHE for a new system. Usually two. So one acts as my backup system to alternate.

I love your videos and I learned a lot!! I am wearing a poly hair system now and it is a lot easier to redo the front part. I also have a lace system.....but I have a lot of trouble re-doing the front hairline. How to remove the glue from the lace?? I thought a cotton ball will do...and the next 3 hours I was busy getting all the cotton of the lace system...:-( And how to remove the glue from your head/hair after replacing the frontline??? For some reason I always have glue just beneath the hairline.... I once used a black pencil to mark the hairline....I only forgot that when there's glue over the dots, you can't get rid off the dots..but that's a once in a lifetime experience..hahaha...But it would be sooooooooooooo helpful if you could do a video re-doing a lace front!! :-)

Hey Curtis, great video. love the ones that get up close and personal showing how to handle a stressful part of the process. Out of curiosity I noticed you live a bit of the poly in the front that isn't ventilated, is there a reason why you don't trim the base up to the hairline on a poly? Is the poly too thick when ventilated with hair that it loses the invisibility at a hairline and causes a "lip" or something along those lines? thanks again

  • @HairExperience

Paul, it would have to be a daily wear tape that is not super strong. The issue we run into is that the tape is stronger than the base material. Ive never tested a daily wear tape on our .03 or any .03 product. But I think its a good idea for a video!
